^ Wlc. Just few pointers on this site

1. You must never apologise to anyone. They would see it as a sign of weakness rather than a genuine apology.

With regard to your question

1. Establish the type of field that you wish to specialise in?

2. What type of company would you like to work for?

3. What type of knowledge and skills are they looking for? Perhaps carry out skill/knowledge gap analysis to highlight areas for improvements.

4. Search for part-time job, undertake sandwich course or voluntary work to gain those key skills

5. Go for mock interviews and test

6. Network, make yourself known to key people

7. Be patient and pray to Allah

8. Above all never lose hope, if you get rejected see it as an opportunity to improve and sharpen yourself.

Have you contacted the career counseling service of your school? They can help you find a job. Most schools give their alumni students 2 years of free services.

You found your way to SOL so you must have, at least, heard of computers.

So what are you good at? Anything? You claimed you were in university. Was that a tongue-in-cheek statement?

Sheh, there's no internet access in the penitentiary dear.

thank you Nehanda for those pointers.

one question if you allow me...how would you suggest i try to get voluntary work in the pharmaceutical companies in the area/ department of pharmaceutical quality control? do i just phone up their HR department and ask if they do volunteering?

wondering if there are SOLers here who work for a pharmaceutical compay or know someone who does who could act asa network for me?

that would really make my day...

Yes, I would call their HR depts. You have nothing to lose. However I would advise you to prepare beforehand to ensure that you are articulate in your approach. You need to know the exact message you want to convey and be prepared for any qs they may ask ie finding out if they do graduate or even apprentice schemes? When are the intakes? What is their recruitment process ie just CV or interview, test etc. What learning and development do they offer etc.

Also have you tried recruitment agencies?

It is already hard enough finding a job, with every other company downsizing/restructu ring in this tough economy, and if you don't have any hands-on experience for a specific field, it just makes it that much more difficult...Your best bet will be to volunteer to gain experience in your field...

Do not limit your job search to just the newspaper or net, almost 80% of jobs available aren't advertised...

Tips to access the hidden job market:

1. Networking - ask friends, family, teachers if they have any job leads.

2. Research potential employers/sectors by either cold calling them or going on their web site.

3. Do informational interviews of companies of interest. Call them and ask to set up an information interview to gather information for a specific field. At the end of your interview with them, ask if you can leave your resume.

4. Attend as many job fairs as you can.

5. Register at temp agencies, they are the best way to get your foot at the door, specially if you don't have experience in your field of interest. However, be careful, never pay them to find you work.

6. Find out if there are government-run wage subsidy programs available in your area.

And most importantly,

7. Make sure your resume is job specific. Use some of the terms used in job ads in your resume to stand out from the rest.

Hope this helps, I know how frustrating it can be, as I am also job searching...

Good Luck!!!
