I am therefore urging people not to listen to fringe groups such as all-shabab, all-maxakim, all-shaydan, all ehelu suna, all-land land , all-dawladiyah etc.

Those groups are all created by our enemies who want kills us, colonize us, conquer us, execute us and divide us. They are absolutely not genuine politicians because politics does not work by playing a victim game; rather it would be better if it is handled with humbleness and congenial attitude. They are all hungry for money and/or power but not the suffering of the masses, and with no fear of a judgement day to come, they would do anything to satisfy their dream and reach to the intended goal.

These groups always undergo that they are threatened by the existence of other opposition groups and instead of discussing the issue and try to minimize the difference or further proliferation they tend to engage blackmailing and character assassination, which is of course discourteous way of political discourse. Consequently, with too much acrimony and too little tolerance, our politics have become petty and poisonous.

My brothers and sisters the situation of our country is certainly depressing but we should not be pessimistic. Instead let’s start by educating our people and let's know who our real enemies are. Last but not least-let’s unite our people. Nothing will harm us if we go on supporting each other for the sake of our people, county and dignity.

Ismahaan, I used to believe in the power of Education to change the current situation of Somalia. But, unfortunately, I figured out that education is not everything without Intention. A real, honest and firm INTENTION to change the situation, a collaborative intention by all the Somalis. But what you get is only someone who is blaming someone else for what happened. I wonder why people waste their present by crying over the past. What is gone is gone, why to stick to the past... And guess what, they keep repeating the same mistakes over and over and over.

Regarding Education, there are so many educated somali individuals who came back from abroad with high degrees but with dark and negative way of thinking... the same narrow-mindness... they obtained high degrees from the highest universities, but it didn't add anything to their personality nor to the benefit of Somalia.

I remember the below story which I read when I was 13 yrs in the newspaper, I really loved it and it still engraved in my mind coz it has a deep meaning.

In brief, it says that a cannibal (the son of the head of a tribe) left his village to receive his education from a prestigous university in Europe. He stayed there for so many years, and one day he decided to retun to his home after he finished his study from the well-known university in a PH.D in Law .

To honor him, his father and his folks arranged for a huge celebration. They decorated the village, prepared dances and speech for the happy occassion. He went for a walk in his village that he missed so much all those years. Suddenly, he heard a voice coming from a corner and he found a man in a cage. He approached the cage and to his surprise, he found that the person in the cage is his European classmate. His classmate felt relieved, happy and relaxed to see his classmate and asked him to free him. Strangely, the cannibal asked his classmate what was he doing inside the cage. The European guy said that he came to Africa for a safari trip but the cannibals caught him. And they will eat him unless the cannibal frees him.

The cannibal told him that he cannot because its his tribe and he is a cannibal like them.

The European told him "Why you have to eat humans, it shouldn't be and it's not a rationl thing to do.

The cannibal replied: Because it's my culture, traditions and life law.

The European said: But you have to be different from your people, you obtained education. You have to be enlightened by now. Besides, what did you learnt from the university??, what did the education and knowlege added to you if you didn't change your bad traditions and wrong beliefs.

The cannibal replied proudly: Well, I learnt how to eat with a fork and a knife.

P.S.: See how many cannibals we have in Somalia now, who came back with high degrees and the only thing they learnt is "how to eat with a fork and a knife!!!". It doesn't matter whether they are radical Islamists, or liberals or conservatives or even academics or educated young people.... without cleaning their minds from this weeds of ignorance and arrogance, nothing will work. And we will only have the cannibals and the followers of the cannibals.

As I say : Every lender has a borrower and every leader has a follower....

Zulfa lol@ I learnt how to eat with a fork and a knife. That certainly applies to many somalis as you mentioned above. Education alone doesn't cut it. One needs to reevaluate their ideology, but truly what can education change if religion couldn't change their narrow and backwarded ideologies?

Islam is the solution to everything, we wouldn't be dividing ourselves based on tribes or kill each other just so we could gain money and power if we truly practiced islam. Not claim to be muslims like some somalis do just so they could attain power but to truly practice it in the right way, I am more than certain the last 20 years wouldn't have been wasted. But rather we would be competing with the other nations and work together for the good of our people

My heart is just so full of hope walahi that one day we will all be united and stop this civil war for good.

May Allah swt Unite all somalis inshallah and may we reestablish Somalia. Ameen!!

Well, I learnt how to eat with a fork and a knife.

I agree that some "Educated" Somali people only learned how to further their ideology and crappy bliefs. But in my opinion the majority of educated youngesters have little interest in destroying their motherland or fighting for the cause of few. Thats not to say they dont have family members holding century-old grudges and trying to poison their minds with qabiil shit.

I propose the Education of Somali women. Get them very young and put them in charge of their lives.Make them understand that they too have powers and they can use them for the greater good.

One aspect of this crappy war that is overlooked is the role of women. We all like to argue and believe that women are the victims and they are in some sense, but they are also the biggest supporters and funders. Seriously how many times have I seen ladies knocking on doors collecting funds for reer hebel who have to "defend" themselves from reer hebel? . They're the ones who sell their dahab, cook, clean and tend to the wounded.

That's true people should stop fundraising money when someone kills someone who's innocent. Look whoever kills someone should be killed. Recently there was a story where a man from a subtribe killed a man from another subtribe. And, what happen was the subtribe that lost a man came to the other city and said we want the guy who killed our man, and he was brought to justice and got killed. so if we kill every man who kills someone am sure somalis would hesitate and think twice before they point their gun at someone. Enough paying money for someone who's a killer..whats the point of saving him. Think of it the only reason people are so encouraged to kill is cuz they know their families will pay some amount of money..what was it called in somali I forgat. Anyhow you got the point right lets fundraise money for hospitals, building roads, schools you name it...

Exactly. I know bad news sells but there lots of Somali organizations that fundraise and lobby for building/improving hospitals and schools. One of my best friends who is a public health major is the treasurer for a Somali health organizations. They hold an awereness and fundraiser events and they have a lot Professional Members from Somali doctors, teachers, nurses, and public health professionals. They send the money to random hospitals all over Somalia through legitimate Non-Profit organizations for the purpose purchasing equipments, prenatal care(a major problem in our country), and out-patient care. The last time I attended their event, I was soo touched wallhi. They have 18-year olds that soooo active and passionate.

There's a bigger fish to fry here. The country and its people are seriously shyte cycle of nightmare, and who knows what the future would be. So, crying over a flag being changed is meaningless in the greater scheme of things.
