- Femme - Posted December 9, 2005 Technology defintely has made life easier for everyone---its more convenient now to phone and/or email rather than to take the time to actually sit down and compose a simple letter. I have never written a letter and even Hooyo recently stopped, prefering to communicate with family back home by email. But I would love to learn how to write one. A distinctly somali letter in which the first half of the page is focused on prolonging the 'salaan'. I remember reading one and certain lines jump out '114, lab and kashka(?)' and a whole bit about clouds raining blessing on the family. It was nice. So tell me, how do you write one? Qandalawi Posted December 9, 2005 ^Fem Waxaad iga gudoontaa salaan qaali ah oo ah 114 quraanka kariimka kakooban yahay, midaasoo walibana kasoo go'day kasha iyo laabta, beerka iyo wadnaha dhiigu maraan, salaantaasoo ah mid xididaha jirka iyo halbowluhuba uwada qushuuceen, waa salaan ay soo gudbiyeen xubnaha jirkayga oo dhan, ayna soo saxiixeen my brain cells Yep for a log time I have never written one, good memories from the old days. Thanks to the technology we are sparred of taking a pen and a papper thinking old day of what to write, and sometime worry about the handwritting, Ooh never forget the few rup offs cut into pieces to restart again before you manage and commit to send it at last. - Femme - Posted December 9, 2005 ^Haye dee, sii wad! Exacto. Thats the standard begining of any letter. Where the problem comes in, is that the same thing one writes each on letter? And if not, how the hell can you come up with new ways to say salaan in every letter? P.S. Did you notice that the long 'salaan' has been carried over to phone conversations? How many times can a person say 'nabad, alhamdulilah, fiican, barwaaqo, cafmaad, waa roonahaye'. L0L. Who can match Tukaale's?
Qandalawi Posted December 9, 2005 ^^ talk about what, you gota give a problem! As in english language letters have different subjects, and specific problem to focus on. It could be: A love letter Family latter Frienship latter Issue of concern etc as in any other language.

Laba-X Posted December 10, 2005 Femme, The art of writing letter is sluggishly diminishing. Here is an excerpt of a typical letter i wrote to my brother many many years ago. Walaal Waan ku Salaamay. waxaan kugu salaamayaa salaan kasoo go'day kasha iyo laabta oo qiimo iyo qaaya badan . Salaan kadib anigu waan caafimaad qabaa boqolkiiba boqol (100%) adna sidaas iyo si kafiican ayaan Alle kaaga rajaynayaa. Walaal....

Letters are wonderful, I miss writing them, but I can't say I would have a paragraph of salan for anyone.
Jacaylbaro Posted June 22, 2008 Walaalo waxaan kuu soo dirayaa salaan ka soo go'day kashka iyo laabta ka macaan malabka, ka udgood cadarka, ka balaadhan badda kana qaalisan dheemanta. Waxaan hawada inoo dhaxaysa kuu soo marnayaa Salaan kalgacal tan ugu sarraysa ee laba walaalo ahi isu diraan taas oo ka soo go'day beerka guntiisa, sii dhex martay wadnaha dariiqna ka dhigatay xidada dhiiga qaada ee ku baahsan dhamaan jidhka. Salaantaas ka dib walaal hooyo way fiican tahay, Aabona sidoo kele. Ayeeyo maalin dhowayd baan u tegey oo iyaduna walaahi caadaasay maraysay. Habaryaro ayaa yara xanuunsatay lakin imika aad bay u fiican tahay. Waxaan maqlay in ay eeddo maalin dhow na soo booqan doonto lakin guud ahaan aad bay u fiican tahay iyada iyo caruurteediiba. Adeero Cali sidii uu u guursadayba wuu naaxay oo suudh uun buu xidhan yahay mar kastana wuu i kaa waydiiyaa. Sidoo kele Adeero Maxamuud ayaan marmar arkaa runtiina aad buu u fiican yahay. Walaal warkaagu wuu igu yar yahay oo runtii war badan kaama helo mar kastana waan kaa werweraa waayo dhul fog baaad joogtaaa oo maanta cid ehelka ah oo ku garab taagani aanuu jirin oo hadii ay dhibaato ku qabsato cid kaa soo waramaysaa ay iskaba yar tahay inaad adigu soo hadasho mooyaane. Walaal waxaan jeclaa inaad warkaaga had iyo goor ila soo socodsiiso, xaaladaada iyo hadba meesha ay wax kuu marayaan. Waxaan Inanka waraaqdan sida kuugu soo dhiibay waxoogaa hadiyad ah oo aan filayo inaad ku farxi doonto in kastoo aanay wax badan ahayn. Walaal igu salaan dhamaan asxaabtii Sidaa iyo nabad gelyo ... Fabregas Posted June 22, 2008 I would have thought that loading a letter with some many metaphors and loaded similes would have made it sound rather fake( somewhat unrea)?
