  1. Naxar, First of all do you see the foolishness of arguing about a video you haven't even watched(according to your earlier admission)? For if you had seen it, you would realize it's a State Dept-posted Youtube video with the express purpose of informing the Somali public(internal and diaspora) on current U.S. positions vis-a-vis the former Somalia. Now are you seriously suggesting that the lead diplomat for Somalia, the Special Rep/Amb, as well as the State media bureaucracy would broadcast a policy position that wasn't sanctioned from the top on down? Just think about that for a few minutes before rushing to answer....
  2. Ok, Naxar, we're in parallel universes when you present the Special Rep for Somalia as a mere Ambassador as if he's the U.S. Ambassador to Brunei pontificating on Somali affairs. It's b/c of those statements that I assume a certain naivete on your part. Anyway, something tells me your opposition is more emotion-driven than logic driven. I'll leave it at that. As for posting the video, one only has to remember the reaction to the Dual-Track Policy right here on this Forum and in the wider Somali political world when it was first announced. Hard-core unionists were extremely opposed to it, seeing it as a devolution of the former Somalia's territorial integrity. Many editorials were devoted to the topic across many Somali websites, etc. With the recognition of the Mogadishu gov't by the U.S., many interpreted that as the end of the Dual-Track policy. Well, this video answers that question. For any objective observer of the video, there's only one conclusion to reach. Thus, why it's difficult to figure out exactly what it is you're protesting in the thread....
  3. Ditoore Osman, It's truly a source of great amusement to see you interject photos of the 'great' Bosasso and other sister cities into every possible thread regardless of relevance to the topic at hand. Do carry on....
  4. Saalax;929747 wrote: Very well Suldaanka. Minted Farayar I was right after all the shell blocks are located in Somaliland and Puntland, with shell M10 being the homeland of AfricaOwn. You were right on the money, sxb. But I still feel we are not ready as a society nor do we have the institutional capacity to properly absorb the proceeds without 'diversions'
  5. Ngonge, I'm, really, genuinely asking 'what these half-truths' are? Because I'm not aware of them currently. From the little I've read from local news sources back home, the whole top layer of leadership(gov't and opposition) is in reactive mode 24/7 to the changing landscape in the region. Actually, the whole Somali peninsula is in the same condition, but we're the only democratic/vote-based system so our laundry gets publicly aired. But from your earlier comments(a couple of posts before), some opposition action has really set you on edge. That's the explanation/telling I'm asking for.
  6. What SL opposition are you referring to, sxb? The organized, recognized opposition back home? Or are you intimating a more nefarious agenda on the part of the Guru and I, right here on these Boards? Hmmm... Please elaborate.
  7. Precisely, Haatu. As a Kenyan-Somali who's observed the brutish dance that passes for Somali politics right here through this Forum, you now understand why it's inevitable for every errant Somalilander to eventually return to the motherland with a big I Told You So!! sign waiting for him/her at the port of entry

  9. Naxar Nugaaleed;929695 wrote: why do we have to "believe" anything? The government does allocate aid money its given to all regions. and what are these international actors your speaking of? everything is done with the consent of the government in Mogadishu. All these makes it sound like there is a flurry of diplomatic activity and reconstruction aid going on in hargeisa which is not the case. but good luck with you dual track and international community Naxar, What is it that you're arguing here? Flurry of diplomatic activity and reconstruction?? No such thing, nor will there be any such thing anywhere in the former Somali Republic. We're just not that popular internationally nor do we excite much international sympathy due to the shenanigans of key parts of the Somali family. So that's neither here nor there, whether in Hargeisa or Mogadishu. But it seems it's the continuation of the Dual Track approach that seems to have awakened your excitement/rancor in this thread. Please don't make me the collateral damage of misdirected anger. I just posted information that was clear in its message. The Ambassador stated: "So our position is very much consistent with the African Union position, the UN position in terms of recognition of the Somali National Government yet we also want to continue our engagement and relationship with Somaliland for the benefit of that population. From the U.S. perspective, that's called 'having your cake and eating it too'. Give all sides something they want in order to further your own objectives. So maybe, the confusion on your part is re:what the Dual Track Policy is? Well, it's simply a way for the U.S. to bypass a dysfunctional Mogadishu entity and deal with other authorities on the ground in order to fulfill it's own policy objectives. The Ambassador's statement was clear in the continued enactment of that policy, at least for Somaliland, if not for other entities. So what's the problem? That's what you have yet to explain to me... Note: Concentrate on the 'yet' in the Ambassador's statement and what that word means in the 'English language'. It's akin to 'laakiin' in Arabic/Somali.
  10. Naxar, Let's agree to disagree on that point. Now, as for your point below: Naxar Nugaaleed;929690 wrote: If there is a "dual-track" dealing with Somaliland, it is with the consent of the Somali government in Mogadishu. Do you really believe any of the international actors on the Somali stage seeks the consent of the Mogadishu government when it comes to any of their actions/policies? If the answer is affirmative on your part, you really are more naive than I gave you credit for. The Mogadishu gov't is simply window dressing for larger global agendas that has the prepared script handed to it in order to read out loud on a daily basis. So here's my question, do you disagree that the Ambassador clearly spelled out there will be a direct relationship between the U.S and Somaliland? I just want to measure the degree of your comprehension of the statements made visually and audibly by the Ambassador.
  11. Is deji, sxb. In your attempt to score a cheap cyber goal, you forgot one little detail. The whole UNPOS(United Nations Political Office) for the former Somalia has been entirely disbanded (by the same Security Council Resolution that partially lifted the Arms Embargo). The particular article in that resolution reads: 17. Welcomes the review by the Secretary-General of the United Nations’ presence and engagement in Somalia; 18. Agrees with the Secretary-General that UNPOS has fulfilled its mandate and should now be dissolved, and further agrees that UNPOS should be replaced by a new expanded Special Political Mission as soon as possible; Back to the drawing board for you. I fail to understand what has kindled this anti-Somaliland sentiment in you, a tireless supporter of the Mogadishu Federal Government. We haven't even turned our guns on you yet. We're still clearing the brush. Wait a while
  12. Oodweyne, Like I said you have no idea what you're missing. An award-winning Phd Psychiatric Thesis could be written on the phenomena of the 'Cafe Calaacal' franchises. It's a very well organized franchise business. Every few months, an 'outsider' is invited to the session (usually an outsider who's a recent returnee from 'wadankii'). He's given free tea and cupcakes paid for by the membership and then eagerly told "Bal noo waran!". He proceeds to recite his observations while back in Somalia. As soon as his storyline diverts from the fantasy of the 'glorious return' back to 'Xamar Caddey', he's promptly grabbed by the collar of the shirt and unceremoniously ejected to the waiting 'parking lot' right outside. It, truly, is a sight to behold
  13. Oodweyne;929667 wrote: Hence if I were the membership committee of these "Café Calaacal" I would mind to consider him as a "honorary member" since his "tokenism" could give us some sort of a PR gloss along line of others not be in a position to accused of us a clannish outfit (if you get my drift).. :D LOOOL.... ;) Oodka, bro, You really must see these bustling 'franchises' across the major Somali population centers of the U.S. Samatar's membership would never work; he would be thrown out with hot tea masala spilled on his face within 15 minutes You see the good Professor only enjoys the sound of his own voice & would engage in long monologues backed up by different papers he's written in obscure journals. This would get in the way of the rotating 'Polaroids' and the nostalgia discussions interlaced with the hopes of 'We're so close to setting up shop again in Xamar Caddey!". Within a short time frame, the Professor would be booted out for interrupting the 'fluency' of the 'sheekada macaan ee inoo socota'
  14. Gentlemen, Before bullets ricochet needlessly in a crowded room filled with like-minded people, let's take a deep breath. Do not take criticism for lack of loyalty. The pressure/agitation must be kept up on any SL administration to keep them on the agreed collective path. This is necessary to prevent the usual African/Arab personal rent-seeking activities from eclipsing the larger agenda.
  15. You guys give him too much credit. He seems like a 'blow-hard' who allowed the less than a dozen audience he used to receive at his lecture events across the Western diaspora(usually invited by some hapless Somali student group at various universities) get to his head. His gargantuan ego and the political 'blindness' it carries comes through at every Youtube clip his promoters post online. Oodka, As for him attending a Cafe Calaacal session, that's out of the question. Hopefully you'll get a chance to observe one of the N. American Cafe Calaacal franchises. It's a sight to behold. But in order to be given membership/seating, you must be idealogically associated with a certain 'long-demised' military regime, pining for the good, old days while passing around old Polaroid photos of your property and LandCruisers from those days. Given that criteria, our good Professor would not be welcome at that 'busy' franchise
  16. Not to mention if a certain unmentioned talks do take place, it's useful to have a certain disputed constituency present for reasons of 'optics'. Not that I have a problem with that, but at least be honest with the public regarding the forthcoming agenda. Note: This is pure conjecture on my part since our administration is keeping us in the dark re:this mysterious trip
  17. The inclusion of the Deputy Speaker of the National Assembly Baashe Mohamed Faarah in the Presidential Delegation is a worrisome sign of what might be on the agenda of this trip. The politically cognizant among SL watchers will know what I mean by that observation.

Oodweyne;929626 wrote: the uninitiated intellectual urchins................................ our not-too-bright and back-at-the-class sniffling urchins ;) Oodka, You definitely have a way with words. You're correct though, it is an exercise in futility..... The annoying thing is that after 20-some-odd-years of grievous damage to the once-proud Somali name by them and their ilk, they're still standing around with the same old 'Indha-Adeygnimo'. Pity....
  20. Ngonge, I guess it's a matter of perspective, xaaji. If you look at the passages highlighted in my previous post above, you'll see an admitted ignorance of significant portions of the trip's agenda by the highest levels of the administration(Laakiin wax naloo sheegay iyo wax naloo balan qaaday midna ma jirto,”ayuu yidhi Madaxweyne Siilaanyo.). A truely rudderless ship when it comes to the foreign portfolio. Let me say though(in case you're smelling something else in the critique) that this was a trait of all Somaliland administrations since Egal's days. Our elites are stuck in a world viewpoint of bygone decades without properly understanding the changing dynamics of the 21st century. Hence, SL administrations are always in reactive mode to changing geopolitical landscapes in the region. P.S. In fairness, SL's political elite specialty/excellence is in the internal Somali dynamics of balancing the various interests within Somaliland. In that area, SL elites have no equal in the Somali peninsula or the whole Horn, for that matter.
  21. Calm down, guys. The Dual-Track was never about humanitarian assistance unless we're engaging in a bit of revisionist history. Secondly, it seems you've been out of the loop for some years. Somaliland was placed out of the 'humanitarian assistance' category for the past years and moved to the 'recovery' stage where most of the assistance is 'developmental' whether it's in governance, economic, or security. If you're unfamiliar with the non-humanitarian nature of the Dual-Track policy, I would be more than happy to repost Asst. Secretary Johnnie Carson's original explanation of what the Dual-Track policy is
  22. Shortly after writing the above posting, Somaliland.org decided to post a further article listing some of Pres. Siilaanyo's 'questions and answers' at the Berbera airport before embarking for the Emirates. Read below: ______________________________________________ Madaxweynaha oo la weydiiyay inay dawlada imaaraadka carabta ka wada hadlayaan qodobadii ay hore uga wada hadleen iyo inuu jiro qodobo cusub oo ay ka wada hadlayaan labada dhinac, waxaanu yidhi “Wixii hore looga wada hadlay iyo wax cusub-ba waa laga wada hadli doonaa inshaalaahu Tacaalaa. Waxaanu socdaalkayagu qaadan doonaa laba illaa sadex cisho.” _______________________________________________ http://www.somaliland.org/2013/03/23/madaxweyne-siilaanyo-oo-ka-hadlay-qodobada-ay-ka-wada-hadlayaan-dawladda-imaaraadka-carabta/
