  1. With Somalia's UN-backed government consolidating its hold over the capital, Mogadishu, and other areas from al-Qaeda-linked militants, many women are returning to help rebuild the country, reports the BBC's Kate Forbes. "Ladies and gentlemen, welcome to this Air Africa flight to Mogadishu," the Kenyan stewardess booms over the plane tannoy. Absolutely no-one pays any attention, with passengers preferring to root through the overhead lockers or stand talking in the aisles. The plane is full of familiar accents: British, Canadian and American. Open your eyes and you see it is packed with Somalis, mainly women, going to a "home" they barely know. Click
  2. Ouch@nuune, you guys must have wronged these girls. I am just imagining the look on Ajanabis faces, a Somali Marriage event with a harem of Somali women and no men, There was kid in Boston who run off with Indian guy but they met through a website. The mother was devastated..
  3. lool@Nuune, good luck to them all. Is the event for Somalis only? Wadani....some of the children born out of these relationships are very Somali, more Somali than Somalis. Saxansaxo....some religious centers create cults obsessed with marriages, to the point, common sense goes out of the door. We are hijacking the thread, a thread dresses of all things loool
  4. Nuune...The whole affair is so fast. I can't hate on the reverts though. I gotta know what they tell these Xalimos. One thing is sure, they use religion very effectively and women used it as shield. The most surprising story I heard was this woman who married revert within week of meeting him and moved in with him and his other wife in two bedroom apartment. I mean that's some serious game on the guy's part or serious self-deception or delusion on hers. Needless, she was divorced with kid. N they have networks, it's usually women married to reverts that encourage other women, alot time to their own detriments. On plus side, there are many good couples who marry for the right reasons and are very involved with their respective communities.
  5. ^You make good point, come to think I have never seen a big wedding involving a Xalimo and revert. It's always low key. I guess the accommodating goes one way. The weddings have happen so fast, meet this morning and in bed together by nightfall.
  6. I would like to think Somalia is that capable but it seems this was foregone conclusion since Hilary wagged her finger at the miserable bunch we called leaders. Somalia will score if they know how to take advantage of this opportunity. We will see if Xasan, Saacid and Jawari are up to the job. The good news so far is that they are not at each other's throat as was the tradition in the past.
  7. Foreign Minister on the US recognition of the Somali Government
  8. Oodweyne, As far as I know, AS hasn't issued any threat nor has it been known to target Brits . The rescue debacle by the French was good propaganda but nothing more. Their man power and resource is poured into the South apart from the few in Golis mountains giving headache to Faroole's admin. Unless there's some intelligence to suggest Somaliland is being infiltrated by AS, this whole thing is unwarranted. On the larger point, it looks like there's new scramble for Africa and former colonial powers are dividing the continent along their spheres of influence in the former colonies. The rush for Africa's resources is on!
  9. Oodweyne..This is unfortunate and unwarranted!
  10. What terror threat? A bit of over reaction considering there are no actual threats.
  11. Sunday, January 27, 2013 All British nationals in Somaliland should leave immediately because of "a specific threat to Westerners", the UK Foreign Office has said. It was already advising Britons in Somalia, including Somaliland, to leave, but has reviewed and reissued its advice in light of the threat. It says kidnapping "motivated by criminality or terrorism" remains a threat throughout Somalia. Last week, a similar warning was issued for Britons to leave Libya's Benghazi. There were a number of non-governmental organisations, staffed by Westerners, that worked in Somaliland, a Foreign Office (FCO) spokesman told the BBC News website. "We are now aware of a specific threat to Westerners in Somaliland and urge any British nationals who remain there against our advice to leave immediately," the FCO said in a statement. It said it would not comment on the nature of the threat. 'Terrorist groups' The FCO website warns that in the southern and central regions of Somalia "there is ongoing serious violence, dangerous levels of criminal activity and general internal insecurity". It says attacks "could be indiscriminate, including in places frequented by expatriates and foreign travellers". And it adds: "Following the death of Osama Bin Laden, terrorist groups operating in Somalia have made threats against Westerners and those working for Western organisations in Somalia, including Somaliland." The northern territory of Somaliland broke away from Somalia in 1991 and wants to remain separate from the rest of the country. But Mogadishu wants Somaliland to be part of a single Somali state. Somaliland unilaterally declared independence after the overthrow of Siad Barre - who led Somalia's last functioning national government. Last week, the FCO urged Britons to leave Benghazi immediately in response to a "specific, imminent threat" to Westerners. Libya's deputy interior minister Abdullah Massoud responded by insisting the security problems in Benghazi did not warrant such a response. The threat of terrorism in Africa was highlighted by a four-day siege at a gas plant near the town of In Amenas, in eastern Algeria, earlier this month which is believed to have left six British hostages dead. 12. ^Nigga stop hating Hargeysa and Garowe. XX......One thing Somaliland should have been from get-go was to build a human capacity and strong economy. They should stop tying economic growth to international recognition and find a way to spur growth. They might actually pursue reer Sool to support secession had the economy flourished.

  15. lool@Jacpher, Ignore her at your peril.
  16. Or what are politicians considering these administrations have nothing to do with many projects.
