I agree somehow Puntland is secretly seeking acclaimed status or aristocracy as evidenced by the article in RadioLascanod website after Gen. Cadde deliberately said that Puntland stays out of the political meddling of Sanag and Sool with Somaliland. Many politicians expressed skepticism that his statement would lead to an alleged ambiguity over his integrity as president but felt it was clearly reneging on the contract that the people reposited on his government. . what's more, the claim of the late Islaam Mohammed (rest in peace) that the presidency of Puntland is reserved only for the main group also spelled out the hidden belief that these regions don't belong there. What you say about this? This is the real underlining cause of this seeming division. We have to first sort this mess out and let us not all put the blame where it does not belong. Farah, i am not in fact versed in the inside politics of these subclans. I see things from general perspective that strives for the common welfare of these regions. Are you saying that the traditional power-breakers and some subclans are split over petty grudges?
  2. Thanks for posting. I think the United States weighed the interests it has with Ethiopia vs Egypt and concluded to take this position. Here is the Official Press Release Somalia’s neighbors have legitimate national interests that are best protected by the successful establishment of a stable and effective central government in Somalia; however, any external force should exclude troops from those countries. To include troops from neighboring countries at this time could pose an insurmountable obstacle to the Transitional Federal Government’s ability to gain the support and trust of the Somali people due to the perception within Somalia that some neighboring countries may be biased towards one or more elements of the Transitional Federal Government. We urge all Somalis involved in the creation of a new Somali government to focus on the needs of the Somali people while respecting the peace, governance and security that exists in areas not currently participating in the reconciliation process. We hope all Somali participants will continue their efforts towards the reestablishment of effective governance in Somalia through a sustained process of reconciliation and dialogue. It is in the interest of the international community to support the establishment of regional stability and the peaceful return of governance to Somalia.

I am confused more than ever. You mean 8 regions? I am sticking to the origin. I don't think dividing regions into many parts is healthy.

  5. Hayland came from Highland==Calmadow. The capital of Sanaag is Ceerigaabo. Badhan, LasQorey, and Dhahar and CeelAfwayn are districts officials of Sanaag region.
  6. Libaxasanka, You just stated tacit approval of the these regions mayhem. Perhaps you are implying that the clans in Puntland are inseperable one entity. My hidden point is that these regions aren't in a position to thwart secession from happening if that is what the motive of Puntland's existance. Rather, these regions have been cut off from keeping good neighborly relationship that nurture tangible progress and stability. The inexpugnable people of "Sanaag region and Bari region" for instance have been indepedent historically, and the notion of indepedency is still impelling but not active in the sense of "apperent progress" . Clan affinities aside, have we historically connected as one entity or one sub sub clan? Farah, in my opinion, retreating to the principle of seclussion won't help our domestic problems. Las Anod situate near the frontline border and is indeed susceptible to constant attacks. The Hargeisa adminstration claim it and have already pledged that they will secure it by using its own people as an instrument and liability. Contrary to the delusions, the city is not a bustling 'diverse' city where at least two or more clans reside such as Boosaaso or Galkacyo that have now made relative peace and progress due to the port and signing peace treaty with the local clans respectively. However, i am glad that their residents are geared towards building their own city and improving the level of decade long of the poor quality of education. But if you look on the other side of the equation, these local people are deeply divided. What do you say about the speach of Ali Khalif Galeydh prior to the distribution of parliamertary seats? What do you say about the speach of Garad AbdiQani (go to Sanaagonline.com). Aren't your local people divided to the fullest? Another example is CAwad Casharo who was fierce supporter of A/Y. Since his tenure as a minister in Puntland, he is said to have never visited Sanag region.

Raganimo, that was great understanding and confession of political reality. Qudhac, you seem to be retreating to self-defence not wanting to touch the reality. First, are these regions at liberty to non-interference, A non-interference which affords them autonomy and maintenance of peace and progress. Ever since the creation of Puntland, the citizens of these regions have parted into highly opposing groups that embrace the differing ideologies of both Puntland and Somaliland. These two groups have hitherto stood complacent about the clash of interest that perpetuate one another, conspiring cooperatively with either Hargeisa or Garowe to the detriment of their own people. How many occasions have these local mercenaries spurred violence under the umbrella of Hargeisa and Garoowe altercations over the claims of their own territories . Every bad thing is happening in Sanaag/sool regions, and there hasn’t been authority figures or the Garads/Sultan that spoke against or provided counterweight on the issue or the bogus land dispute. I believe sovereignty (ephemeral autonomy)provide sense of fulfillment, aspiration, and goal in itself. It is an instrument to attainable ends. Hence, it is the best interest of Sanaag and Sool residents to discern what lies ahead without forejudging the realm of their affiliation with the main ‘Groups’ merely for blood relationship or territorial shares.
  8. These regions have been neglected under the cloak of phantom states, one being the pursuit to claim colonial legacy and the other being ephemeral state whose main portfolio is to achieve internal stability, harmony and progress. However, neither state has worked to the progress of these regions except posing them to constant threats of war and destruction. An important dimension is, as it appears, reaction is very diminutive as to liberate the citizens of these regions from the fetters of political ignorance, nor is there any hopeful determination to overcome these chains of degeneration. I dismiss the idea that fragmentation is dysfunctional at this situation in Somalia, conversely it helps the groups that doesn’t benefit from phantom states in a position to assert their needs, regional development, existence, and competition with the rest. The few adversary reaction to these unfolding events of inequality has never gotten widespread Sanag and Sool support or publicity. They are being divided to weaken their bargaining position and cost effect as a strategy to maintain structural differentiation in the region. “Power†was used to persuade and control its elders, experts and politicians. I mean “power†as means of winning effortlessly the aim to submit the organs of these regions to blandishments, elusive seats, and brotherhood of few or no expectations. These distinctions, in my opinion are essential for the residents of these regions to apprehend what is best interest of their people and territory. What Sanaag and Sool need is an action-orientation level of direction, mutual understanding, reflecting the condition of their regions as the main priority over anything as did by their forefathers. It lays bare when one argues that neighbors don’t tend to be hostile over competition of interests and whether it shall intensify or diminish over the years is unpredictable.
  9. I know this is a controversial, but meaningful topic as well that completely highlights the political reality of North Somalia. The people of Sanaag and Sool, in my opinion, might be reluctant to give their say about this issue. Uphelding my emotion, I was really touched by the message of this opinion (read the article below) . We are sort of in a situation between the devil and deep blue sea, neither Puntland nor Somaliland is working on the interest of our people. We (Sanag and Sool) can decide for our territory and people as opposed to remaining content with the "coalition of convenience". In this respect, Divorcing our political affiliation with Puntland or Somaliland serves better choice and is the best alternative to get out of this mayhem. Our territory was metamorphosed into a battlefield whereby the two interest groups are now using it as a gateway to attain their main goal. I am not in a position to divide one society. However, my vision is surely that of reciprocal means. It is time that the people of Sanaag and Sool speak for their own affairs and stand independent. Both Hargeisa and GArowe collect the international aid of Sanaag and Sool on our behalf. Yet they provide little or no service at all to combat the financial problems and difficulties that these regions face daily. As you are aware of, Hargeisa had had deterred donors group from responding to the draught crisis, portraying our regions as too dangerous to visit or help the people that were affected by the draught. If youare from these regions, what do you think is the best solution? Others are welcome to contribute! UMMAD ISU DARAN
  10. Wiil Duco, What is wrong with that argument? isn't she stating historical fact to warrant her clear message? Exceptionally, she is making a mistake on the treaties, which she has no knowledge of as saying the only clan that signed was people of Hargeisa. HERE IS A GOOD LINK FOR HER POOR UNDERSTANDING OF THE BRITISH TREATY.
  11. Ngonge, the map you posted displays inaccurate percentage population in Somalia. The probability that the chief settlers of the center of North Somalia is larger than the most spread out clan of Somalia with massive land is gravely illogical. I also think it was devised by naive team of CIA. Originally posted by Ngonge Looks like good map to me Muad, the first map is more accurate than the second map. The second map accumulates confussion of Subclans and major clans. It relays also intrinsic message that those subclans are comparable to the major clans, which is completely absurd.
  12. But those Kenyans who share that sort of undertone to last week's escalating demands that the Somali government relocate as soon as possible should now rest easy. For the African Union has just committed to providing troops to back the entry of the Somali government into its territory, which should be on the ground by the end of the month. L. Muthoni Wanyeki Excellent point and i thank for what kenyans have done for Somalia for the last 14 years and i hope it keeps extending its support and assisstance.
  13. Sudan, Somalia Peace a Blessing for Kenya Too The East African (Nairobi) ANALYSIS January 10, 2005 Posted to the web January 11, 2005 L. Muthoni Wanyeki Nairobi Kenyans may have ushered in the New Year on a sombre note, thinking of all the things economic and political that have yet to happen to their liking. But if we looked a little above and beyond ourselves, we would have noticed two developments in 2004 that bode well not just for ourselves, but for our sub-region. Somalia has a new government and Sudan has finally signed a comprehensive peace deal. This is good news because, more often than not, we can be heartless, parochial and selfish and want nothing short of having all of Somalis and south Sudanese exiles and refugees resident in Kenya sent home. The Somalis particularly, with whom we have what can only be described as a near pathological relationship. Regardless of the fact that good neighbourliness requires us to harbour them, just as we have been harboured by Tanzania and Uganda in our own times of need. The international law required us to do so, too. But those Kenyans who share that sort of undertone to last week's escalating demands that the Somali government relocate as soon as possible should now rest easy. For the African Union has just committed to providing troops to back the entry of the Somali government into its territory, which should be on the ground by the end of the month. Somalia's new government and Sudan's new peace deal are also good news because the latter's increasingly speedy evolution has opened the eyes of our business community and some members of our government to the potential to capitalise on the development process that will soon be underway in southern Sudan. Of course, in most of southern Sudan, we are not talking about reconstruction but construction. Roads, railways, financial services and other basic infrastructure. So, only a sleepy or very slow businessman in the vicinity will not be thinking hard about how to get a piece of the action. Hence, the Kenya Association of Manufacturers' decision to investigate what options are available for its members. Somalia, however, has not provoked the same sort of avaricious response, mainly because Somalia had more to start with. And because the Somalis still in Somalia, with funds from Somalis in the diaspora, have somehow been not only maintaining the existing infrastructure to the degree necessary to function but also creating new infrastructure. The boost given by the anarchical lack of government regulation for the Somali telecommunications sector, for example, is a case study waiting to be written. But Somalia's new government and Sudan's peace deals are good news because they should be good news for the Somali and the Sudanese. It is simply outrageous how long these two conflicts have gone on. It is therefore heartening that the political moves towards their conclusions were shepherded along by African intergovernmental institutions - the Intergovernmental Agency for Development and the African Union -with massive financial support from the West and equally massive humanitarian support from the UN. That Kenya lived up to its responsibilities should make us all proud of the mediators involved. But we have every right to be sceptical in the case of southern Sudan, not least because the Darfur crisis remains unresolved. Arguably, the presence of the southern Sudanese in the yet-to-be-formed transitional government of national unity will help in that respect. However, because the concerns of the two rebel movements in Darfur are similar to those of the southern Sudan - having to do with government resistance to claims for greater autonomy, power and resource sharing - the Sudanese peace deal may provide a model for a resolution in Darfur. And so, we have every right to be optimistic as well. L. Muthoni Wanyeki is executive director of the African Women's Development and Communication Network (Femnet)
  14. Great news Great news My god bless Somalia
  15. He was probably begged to write this nerve-racking article bereft of reason and hope. When will we discourage a white man representing our interest and speaking on our behalf. It all reminds me how the Somalis in Kenya had relentlessly campaigned for their asiatic status, which failed miserably during the colonial period. How desperate it is to isolate yourself from the rest. BTW, the minerals, oil reserve, and fertile zones are found in Eastern Sanaag whose residents are hardcore believers of Somali union.
  16. This is good news. Thanks for posting it Qoorsheel. I hope also we get a reversal of Kenya's persistent demand for relocation. Every thing is going smooth at the moment.
  17. Many readers are fully aware of, the pessimist political propaganda against the Somali Nation is not only coming from the myopic clanist and their warlords but it is coming also from a group of people whose life and career depends on the continuation of the bloody Somali political conflict. The International Crisis Group spearheaded by the racist, anti African, and anti Muslim "analyst" Matt Bryden < http://ainashe.org/archives/000052.html > keeps lecturing us and anyone else who will listen on the "looming collapse" of the Somali peace process and on how peace and prosperity can never be achieved in Somalia. I understand that that Matt Bryden is in precarious position. He knows that he and his international crisis manufacturing group will go bankrupt with a world without a conflict. Indeed, the continuation of the Somali political conflict is a "milking" cow for Mr. Bryden and his group. The role of the International Crisis Group or the international crisis manufacturing group if you like is just like that of the undertaker. The undertaker's very existence depend on others misfortune, i.e. the death of follow human being. In addition, while the relatives of the deceased are mourning about the sad and unfortunate lost of their love ones, the undertaker rejoice with the job he has got by burying the dead and the salary that comes along with it. In a similar fashion, the international crisis manufacturing group prosper on the continuation of the agony of our people. Hence, just the like the undertaker they rejoice when a conflict erupts in Somalia or elsewhere for that matter. In short, they do not care about the plight of our people but they use the misery of our people to fill their Bank accounts by conducting highly publizised fundraising events worldwide. However, I suspect that Mr. Bryden has another agenda since he made a lifetime career out of burying any positive news from Somalia by bombarding with loads of pessimistic and factually erroneous reports jus as he did earlier this week with the publication of their last report on Somalia. Well, Mr. Bryden should know by now that the time when whatever a white man with a phony title such as "analyst" says about the black Africa was treated as a messianic message is over! Now, Africans want to write about themselves in their own terms without the old fashion racist notion that only Mr. Bryden and his likes are well suited to write an authoritative report about the Blackman, his socio-economic and political environment. Well, I have a very bad news for Mr. Bryden: we can write about our selves and we do not need YOU! By Ainanshe The article is also in response to the recent report by the International Crisis Group on SOMALIA: Continuation of War by other Means Very mind-stimulating. We should be aiming our shooting range to the external enemies of Somalia as one of our major secondary solutions.

  19. Good News. WFP has sent first aid to Somalia. SOURCE "The United Nations World Food Program (WFP) has dispatched 277,000 kg of food aid to assist thousands of Somalis affected by the tsunami, a WFP official said here Monday. A total of 198,000 kg of food has already reached the areas so far identified as in need of assistance following the effects of the huge waves on the northeastern coast of Somalia, and another 79,000 kg food aid is still on the way, said Laura Melo, the WFP'spublic information officer for Africa. The WFP is making plans to assist up to 30,000 Somalis affectedby the tsunami for the next six months, and a total of 2,700,000 kg of food aid worth 2.8 million US dollars has been requested forthe operation, Melo said in a statement. Four WFP teams are currently working in Somalia to assist victims of the tsunami, distributing food and assessing the damageon the ground, said Melo. About 30,000 to 50,000 people in Somalia are in need of immediate assistance after the Horn of Africa country was hit hardby tidal waves at the weekend, the WFP said, adding most of them are fisherman who lost their boats, fishing equipment and household contents."
