  1. I have to add friend that i do understand and share with you that we are still children be we spoiled ones and that we will grow up if we dont destroy ourselves first and the world along with ourselves. But how is this growth going to come about? See i believe that religious teachings of responsibility and mutual respect, of love and friendship and of tolerance and patience are a formular for our growth to maturity in a just and orderly way but then again religions are also shrouded in mystery and contradictions which repel most people especially when contrasted with the tangible results achieved by the will to survive ie by playing by the rules of survival for the fittest which lead to competition rather than cooperation as the only means to ends. Unless the path to the HEREAFTER can also secure the HERE both those that wish for only here and those that wish for only hereafter will fail because we must first go through the here in order to get to the hereafter.
  2. By the way my answer would have been 5. five Personal experience- the experince from complete devotion to islam to me is one of absolute peace,a sense of closeness to ALLHA swt, certainty or absolute trust in GODS ability and feelings that i have no words for. seven Because i was a coward and loosing my family and fellow somalis was a greater loss to me than truths i saw as a mirage. Besides most of the things i vallue are already enshrined in islam anyway.
  3. I have been wondering as to who can in all honesty claim to be a muslim and why ? I have realised that to disobey the law once,if found, prosecuted and sentenced will change one's identity thenceforth to a criminal -a thief ,a robber ,a murderer and so on. We each identify ourselves as persons refering to personalities or behaviours identified to represent ones self, yet no one in reality can promise to behave in that particular maner consitently even under the same conditions let alone diverse circumstanses.
  4. Is it not sad though positive that most of the population of the world are of a different kind of slaves. I mean ,the world is powered by money and those that make the most get to call all the shots. So although we ought to seek to be beings of superior consciousness we cant get there in my opinion without first learning to fully utilize our minds (conscious minds). If we fail to do this we are like those that have eyes but cant see the potholes along their way because they are looking too far ahead and will thus always fall.
  5. Originally posted by Khayr: Saxib, In a paragraph, could you summarize for us the point that you are trying to make. JZK Maybe it is truth that we ought to discuss since all claims must rest on some truths and truth is then the arbiter of all claims?
  6. Thanks saxiib khayr for your reply. To use what was already given to you is to appreciate it and not to use it is not only wrong because it is ungrateful to the GIVER but also leads to alot of injustices of which those who advocate, propagate and even enforce such states of minds that will incapacitate man and domesticate him can neither come to thier aid nor take responsibility for the outcomes.
  7. Walaal positive thanks for your reply. The question on whether our people are ready to put aside differences, of which there are almost none as compared to similarities,in order to work together for the common good needs contemplation as you said for the answers are not readily available. The way i see things however is that people are normally never ready to change their ways. They get disoriented when things happen too fast or even too slow and get caught up within the very systems that will lead to their destruction. In that state of disorientation everyone normally clings to what they know best for safety and comfort ,becuase the soul is at home there. People also have the tendency to follow the crown rather than to think for themselves and who leads these crowds? Those that have nothing to loose and everything to gain will shoot up to the top because they are the most vibrant. They became the orators and a disoriented crowd will not choose. Like they say beggers cannot be choosers and somalis are for sure begging for leadership like no society has ever done before. Education can not come to their aid for even when things were better we were ruled by a dictator who looked after number one and maybe family or loyals and therefor neglected progress in public education ,healthcare and the building of infrastructure. Dictators have always had this problem and most had chosen to cement thier grip on power rather than to empower the people. Empowering the people was to them public enemy number one or should i say private enemy number one. There is no doubt that we have an enemy and although some can identify this enemy in certain persons or pesonalities. This enemy is a force to be countered and our advantage over it is that we are conscious of it. Atleast some of us are. This enemy in my opiniopn is slavery. Most of us are slaves in that we are willing to sit on a bench and wait for others to make change happen for us. Unless we can somehow convince ourselves to wake up to reality and seek to change our lot actively we will never overcome. Most escape the wild west ie paltalk because they are savages -they are loud ,they insult and curse and to survive there you have to be louder and more savage than they are. On the forums where youngters dominate you get the same problem of tribalism and bad manners. I tried to many times to be there and stand up for order and national unity and respect. Unless we try and further our ideas ,those that stand up will always sway the majority to thier awful ways and whether we lul ourselves that all is well and will be well as long as we shut ourselves in our comfort zones ,it will come and destroy all of us without a doubt. There is no better way to counter this than to just plunge ourselves in and contribute whereever we have time and not fear them.
  8. That was on truely one good story. Oh how i wish that people would realise that if they dont act for their good they might just as well hand themselves in as slaves. There is a persistent belief among many of us africans that nothing can be done if not done by the west. I even met a few eglish people that say that blacks canot rule themselves and must therefor be ruled. It is also widely believed that we cant feed ourselves and that is why all we here of is aid for africa. The truth is we dont know how to work with each other. To come out cleverer in any interaction than the rest, is more important than to cooperate to eliminate an obstacle. We are not realy firmly grounded in reality and it is sad to say that. But how much pain and suffering and death must it then take before the light in our heads get ignited and we all go ooooooh aaaaaah i see ! its cooperation ! it was cooperation all along even when we were told by the west that it is competition. The competion is only to cooperate. Nothing was ever realy achieved by competition if you think of it, for even competition ends up in cooperation to be fruitfull otherwise it is just as destructive as an all out war. It is said that the last word in politics as well as everything else is coordibated energy. That i also think ought to be the last frontier to be captured by mankind in order to move on to higher consciousness. That will be the final print on the pages of life if we are to escape destruction by our own hands.
  9. I am an advocate for Somali unity based on mutual respect. I think this unity should not be based on the old tribal values but on the love of life and acknowledgement of ownership of the self as a given and of property if gotten justly. Property is gotten justly when it was received by voluntary exchange assuming that both parties had legitimate ownership of the goods prior to the trade . When it was given as gift by a legitimate owner. When one by his/her own expenditure of effort and ingenuity creates something and claims it to be his. What must then be the relationship among people who must share a designated space in order to form a union that will be beneficial to all in terms of wealth ,health ,security (both internal and external) and warmth and a sense of belonging which is just as important as security. The name of such a union ,we all know is called a nation. But history tells of a sad story of nations born and died. Not all deaths of nations were from invasions be they apparent or hidden, although some would probably soothe their souls with conspiracy theories so as not to face the facts that it may have in fact been their own ways that lead to their demise. Remember even if some of the reasons can be traced back to invasions regardless of the means ,it will still be the fault of the inhabitants of that nation be it those appointed leaders or collectively, for failing to foresee possible threats and intervene in time with proper solutions. We must accept the fact that peace is not always understood by all to be the best state of affairs or even preferred and that some will always want to resort to violence and that is why a nation has to be prepared to defend itself from aggression. In order to stimulate creativity, a nation must allow for personal space to be created by individuals according to ability by safeguarding personal and private rights. But for the same reasons again and in order to create an environment that is both conducive to prosperity but as whole and sustainable as well, it will also be imperative for responsibilities to be allocated and made into duties and legislated into law. So then a nation is geographical boundaries plus the inhabitants . Their cohesion can be said to be from shared values or a common identity as in culture or beliefs. A healthy nation will then have strong bonds but not too strong so as to cause a regress into a primitive state and not too weak to disintegrate and fall to pieces. Between the citizens themselves the government is the arbiter and their relationship with themselves (among citizens) is mutual respect and honest exchange of goods and services ,between the citizens and their government constitution is the arbiter and their relationship is obedience from the citizens towards government and the law down to the letter and the spirit from the government towards the people. But since a nation is more than formalities and rigid legal structures ,there are other mediums within which all must live and they cater for the heart and are arguably more important than anything and these are religion and culture. They create harmony among us and melt our troubles away as well as give us identity. In fact the legal framework can not be fully just without first getting approval from them and no nation can ever claim to be a nation without them and still call themselves a nation of human beings. May we get over this hurdle. May we overcome our differences and leap forward. May we prosper in life and inherit the hereafter. May we learn to live and find happiness in the service of GOD and our nation. May we not only see the good in our hearts but also learn to be it. Like it was said before us ,to BE you only need to choose to act that way. Let us choose to love one another rather than hate ,to promote life rather than take it ,to serve rather than be served. Let us not be cowed into servitude and silence but learn to stand up for what we believe and say firmly that we are for peace and we treasure all that ALLAH swt has created. Let us stop mourning our dead and start working towards helping each reach a ripe age and pass away in peace and with a smile from old age. Let us create our future world today. All you need to do is to act positively ,be the embodiment of justice. Finally let no one tell us that we cannot, are not able. VIVA OUR CULTURE ,VIVA OUR RELIGION AND FINALLY VIVA OUR NATION AAMIIN YA RABIL CAALAMIIN.
  10. Reason and instinct Reason has been elevated to be the ultimate judge and jury of all that is and has been. And some would even stupidly go beyond this to claim that it can also be the decider to what can be. But reason is found inferior of its own and not up to the task .Some of you may be better informed than I am I will invite you to come and defend reason or instinct or whatever other means of knowledge you prefer. Reason is seems to be aided by the scientific method which I will try to explain. But that is because reason works from inside heading out and is thus therefore blind to the whole picture. Sensation leads to perception which leads to conception which leads to knowledge which leads to understanding which leads to wise judgement. In all that we were just observers and from observation only your knowledge ,therefore understanding is limited by external conditions. Now add experimentation and your are creating other conditions thus getting more knowledge instead of waiting for it to come. We are still limited by our senses whose scope is not also very big. So we build machines e.g. telescopes ,microscopes ,thermometers etc .To increase the boundaries of our perceptions and the process continues and that is what we call the scientific method. What is then reason ? Reason is logic and logic is consistency and consistency is working with in the system. Consistency is a means of knowledge for us because the more superior correspondence is unattainable in many if not most cases. Science uses consistency. In fact I would go as far as saying science is noting but the search for consistency. So although scientists can go as far as to tell us that “yes I m sure the sun will rise tomorrow because we have estimated that it still has 6 billion more years before it completely exhausts its energy conversion” they can never guarantee that now can they? However ,although it is true that almost all can be explained away by conditions e.g. water is liquid at specific conditions ,we need specific conditions to stay alive the list is endless why those conditions is I think still a mystery. INTUITION There is however another way to knowledge and that we call intuition. This in my opinion is superior to reason and the scientific method because it is instantaneous and more accurate. But it is also not readily available and cannot be possessed unlike reason and the scientific method which is possessed and stored in our memories for use at will anytime anywhere. Instinct comes to us and does not normally respond to our calls. We don’t own it but rather it owns us when it comes. Of course some of the champions of instinct ,like the religious groups claim that it is in fact the self I.e. the ego that is the problem that is between us and bliss or heaven and instantaneous knowledge. The origins of intuitive knowledge is again a matter for discussion but some examples are .. Hatchlings of turtles race into the ocean for safety because otherwise they would have been devoured by predators but how do they know that the ocean means safety and that there is danger anyway? I read in a book that an elephant stopped and would not cross a bridge even after all the rest have done so. I was to be discovered that the bridge was in fact weak and would not have supported its weight. In a small village Somalia during the war. A man was a woken by a spirit one night and told ,not in words, to leave. He thought it to be a dream and went back to sleep again . As soon as he closed his eyes the spirit came again warned him to take his family and go as in NOW. The man wasn’t sure still what he was experiencing and was soon lulling back to sleep . The spirit I think angry now asked him to leave and that there was evil horrible things were going to happen. The man shot up and went to all his neighbours waking them up and asking them to leave a.s.a.p . They all dismissed him and went back to sleep . He tried his best but was not successful, so he hurried to pull down his hut and went away. The next day the man went to town and everybody was sad . They were all afraid and at the same time mourning the death of an entire village except for one child that somehow got away and lived to tell the story. At that night when the spirits were telling this one family to leave there were a group of militia hiding not far from the village waiting for dawn to strike. There was no way any of them could have known this. This wasn’t in Mogadishu . This happened I was told in punt land and weather this story is true or not I cannot confirm. However we get our knowledge there is no doubt to the importance of knowledge to our lives. Knowledge can mean the difference between life and death ,between wealth and poverty ,between health and disease ,between joy and sorrow ,happiness and misery and finally between jannah and naar. I am also aware that the means to knowledge do not justify the ends for religion is mostly about regulation of the means. The means are the ends as well.
  11. Positive walaal I have always fought discrimination regardless of which form it takes. I consider myself a nationalist and will in most cases base my choise of friends from that stand point but i will never take away or deny anyones just claims on any basis. On somali forums i have always fought tribalists and those that enshrine ignorance and will continue to do so. I once had to battle my own family ,all of them older than i, for refusing to accept some long lost people to join back in. I personally think it is everyones duty to try and persuade not to discriminate. We ought even to step up to them and simply say NO to any one who is willing to take away other peoples dignity and rights simply because they were born. What is more called for walaal is an effort from us. This can be one or more activities like preaching ,writing articles and making multi media content in suport of law and order ,peace and harmony ,industry and trift and finally respect for others and resposibility of action and speech for ourselves. We can also try and show ,maybe by comparison of how much evil can be attributed to discirimination and by lack of respect for law and order and for justice and fairness. I can confirm that, maasha ALLAH, your efforts are well inline with the greater good for somalis and as for me i'll borrow your words to put them down on this page as my signature to the cause "THE TIME OF OUTCASTS IN OUR SOCIETY IS OVER. WE ARE ALL NOBLES OF THE SAME ORIGIN AND OUR FAMILY IS SOMALI?" MAY GOD SWT REWARD YOU FOR THIS Somalis have failed on all levels .Political leaders failed to realise that it was service from them and not allegiance to them that was required of them. Religious leaders have failed in that, in my opinion, they failed to stand up for justice and shout at the top of their voices for calm ,for order, for justice ,for responsibility, for apreciation of life and for its preservation rather than elimination. Intellectual leaders have also failed for they know how easy it is to destroy and how hard to build. In order for a nation to manufacture just one aeroplane, a brigde , a power station etc etc people must be trained continuestly from childhood ,fed ,schooled ,protected from premature deaths and so on . All of which needs an incredible amounts of energy ,patience and perseverance. And none of which is a given but all is derived from awareness ,effort and coordinated energy. I pray that somalis wake up before its too late. I am begining to think that justice lies in the keeping up of momentum rather than protection of comfort zones created by cultures and misunderstanding
  12. Nuur walaal I think freedom can be a very confusing concept. Infact i tend to think that there is no such thing as freedom but rather who or what would one prefer to be bound by or with. Remember to liberate someone from that which must bind him naturally is infact to enslave him and leave him defenseless. Domensticated animals i take here as an ecample. Since they were domesticated they forgot or never learnt skills to enable them to survive in on their own in nature. To set a domesticated animal free is thus tantamount to killing it. Unless one can then guarantee its survival ,in other words serve it aswell as it serving US, we would then be wrong in my opinion. This is not to say that islam is not going to serve us and defend us from enemies from without and from within but in order for one to surrender to islam for dunya and for aakhiro we must first learn and teach that islam is infact able to do this for all its adherents. Preechers of today have been cowed to a corner and will deny vallue to knowledge except be it of diin. What is however needed is what you are trying to do. Show that islam and its tenets are right and can not only deliver man from evil but at the same time deliver to him aduun and akhiiyo I think it is respect that we must seek as oposed to freedom. But in all honesty respect is like saying freedom but on a mutual basis after acknowledging or as can be sadly sometimes just accepting ownership of property, begining ofcourse with the self. What is important i think, is who decides ownership or as is sometimes called rights? In all honesty this is mostly decided in my opinion by states and islam of course governs the hearts of muslims depending on how strong their faith is. Must organisation be lookes at from above ie as a whole or from within ie based on individual claims to liberty and the shared resourses. I know that this is probably not the place to ask or seek to discuss such issues for you would probably like to confine yourselves within islam. I am not sure if a muslim is allowed to look at islam from anywhere but from within ,but i know that a lot of youngsters growing up in foreign lands are going to be left defenceless and thus susceptible to influence should we only confine ourselves to images from within. I read a book by this lady called Ayn rand in defence of capitalism and she asks people to notice that those that have prospered meaning the west have freedom and those that lag behind and are crippled by poverty ,disease etc etc are those that lack freedom. A glance of the state of the world today or even a look at history will probably support her claims in my opinion. Communism was one of those systems that did not grow from within and was thus implemented from a bove and not only did it fail miserably its people over the ages but it did infact also collupse in the end. Gorbachev the last premier of ussr ,who liberated it, was said to have asked Margaret thatcher in a desperate search for an answer "how do you see to it that your people get fed" to which she replied "i dont ,price does that for us" this i got from two books one of which is called LIBERTARIANISM. I am not saying that islam is comparable to communism but i seek to show that if a system does not originate from within it may not be compatible unless a comprehensive campaign of awareness creation is organised and carried out. I have probably gone outside of the topic appologies.
  13. Nur brother thank you very much for writting from your mind/heart i truely do appreciate people that claim their ideas rather than just quate others. To start with i am not of a very strong faith and i feel like most things in life are covered in a dense fog that hides them from understanding. There is undoubtedly not enough knowledge and the process of acquiring knowledge and clarity of mind is slowed or even reversed by cultural and religious beliefs in my opinion. You speak of the purpose of life and having accepted that this purpose is as stated by islam you proceeded to say that success is to be fit for purpose. I personally think that success is attainment or accomplishment of a goal or a purpose. But that is not my concern. My concerns are, say our purpose on earth is to worship or obey GODS will. If all is predestined then all obeys GODSWILL anyway and we can therefore have no purpose for we have no will. If not and we then have free will to some extent and the future is not written but awaits to happen according to the unknown future choises that each living thing can decide to take, which will all potentialy lead to different outcomes but if GOD has set strict laws of nature within which we must also all live and GOD wont intervene by merely asking or praying ,then we also have another problem. This problem is a bit complicated but i will still try. If GOD wont intervene on account of the muumin then the believer's duty wont only be to believe but also to always outperform the unbeliever in almost all the fields as well. The reason herefor is that say the kaafirs are more successfull in worldly knowledge as we call it and in wealth. This will also make them more powerfull and they can now either manipulate or simply force you and your family to deviate from your path or just kill you all, wont that affect any future believers by either simply not being born or swayed by sheer pressures eg the instict to survive and their passions or by inferiority complex etc I have somehow lost the rest of what i was going to say but simply stated ,the current number of believer and the future numbers will in my opinion also depend on our success for other fields as much as our success in practicing or holding on to our religion.
  14. Dear xiinfaniin i only contributed my opinions because of the tittle "is somalia ready for sharia" If this was a only a religious topic i wouldnt have contributed opinions and would probably have stayed away since i know not much about sharia walaal. But i ask you for cafis again should i have offended you. Come to think of it i sounded a bit harsh and so appologies to all those that must read my comment.
  15. Originally posted by xiinfaniin: Aduun iyo aakhiro, what's up with this forcing thing you're emphasizing ? Shariicah has nothing to do with force! I am sorry saxiib i know i am hasty and i really need to take some time and read everything first before replying. I thought sharia was what the saudis practice where those that dont pray get lashed ,those that fornicate get stoned and so on. If that is then what it is how is it then not force unless you can guarantee that each will infact subscribe to that willingly.
  16. "It has been said that the patience of the Chinese is proverbial. We Somalis are poor in this regard, for patience is not one of our attributes. Nations and institutions take a long time to build, and patience and perseverance are the two essential ingredients. We have come a long way from the sixties and we now have highly educated and qualified people though most of them are outside the country. Without them the country cannot be built. It is for them that I wrote this piece and I hope they will not shun their duty to their country and will help in building a robust public service which will be guided by, “I have the honour to be, Sir/Madam, your most obedient and humble servant”. Undoubtedly, an equally beautiful formulation of its equivalent in Somali can be found. I have been embarrassed many times by the question why I was not helping my country instead of working for the United Nations. I am sure every educated Somali faces the same question and shares the embarrassment. Ismail Ali Ismail " I think it is not only patience that we lack ,honerable man-it is also the trust in our own abilities to solve our problems and the ability of GOD swt to provide -it is IIMAAN that is lacking us. Most of us believe that it is not their duty to actively seek for ways in which they can contribute. May GOD bless you for this and may we learn to act towards our own good aamiin.
  17. I can only speak of my opinions and since this thread is asking wheather sharia should govern my and my beloved in the future ,i am forced to express my views and objections to it. My understanding of sharia is not from study but mostly from observations and hearsay. I have to state firstly that although anyone can force another to do things against their wishes ,past experience has vividly demonstrated to us that it is neither just nor wise to do so. I strongly think beliefs are personal issues and that the best way to live, for all that must share space and services is for all to respect each others ownership of their self. All else is subject to aggreaments of laws ,rules and contracts. I do not believe in punitive justice ,i think one must restore what one can and what one cannot to be forgiven and punishment as an example i think is absolutely wrong. It seems very strange to me that we can demand to force people to act in ways that are contrary to their wishes and believes and when that creates unbearable situations back in our home lands, we are willing to live right next to people that do all that we were not willing to let our brothers and sisters do or decide for themselves and we do that gladly. What more can a believer want than to be left alone and in peace to do what his LORD has commanded him to do .Why must he force everyone else despite others willingness to let them live as they wish. I am a somali just like you and a believer in GOD just like you but there is no denying that ALLAH swt has granted me the freedom to choose so must you. You can preech to me of which again i will retain the right to listen or not.

  19. Although i havent read most of what was said before me and i will try and read them all insha ALLAH i thought maybe the voice of the common men such as i must also be aired. In my opinion, if we must survive this highly competitive world we are left with no option but to provide most of our food. Starting with those that we can produce cheaply and in time moving on to others according to ability. I think what you get and how cheaply you get it are both determined by your ability and your needs. To say this in other words ,it may seem cheaper to just buy from other countries now but in the long run i think it will probably work out cheaper to actually produce them yourself.
  20. I thought eastern religions promise heaven and happiness without effort. Happiness through conscious effort must then apply to earthlings.

About religious and intellectual leaders I find these group to be more dangerous cause the elders still live in the past but at least they do what they think is best. There is this organization they call themselves somali intellectuals, how do you define intellectual somalis? Anyone with a University degree or belonging to a certain group? Religious which ones are all sects considered religious? When i said "best left to elder ,intellectuals and religious leader" i meant that the government best not regulate such things and that naturally leaders will emerge in all fields including those of the intellect and religion and they will then compete for the hearts and minds of the people under the umbrella of the law. i.e under the protection of property and personal rights, of contract by consent. By intellectuals i meant those that have achieved excellency their particular field of study. This normally gives them an authoritative say on those matter if not the last say. Intellectuals do and have indeed changed our ways.Their's may be slower for they use the written word and they are bound by truths of the highest degrees. Religious teachers are in our case Islamic and which sect as well as whether or not to listen to them is again an individual choise. But in general religious teachings are valuable to society for they teach people to be just, patient and industrious. They insist on responsibility of actions and words to a very high degree. Islam for instance teaches just that. I believe religion teaches people to be good citizens and good human beings .Now whether that is followed or not is a different thing. They all do valualble work for the nation as a whole by enlightening the people and helping them make better choises. For a government to do what people can do better for themselves whether by culture or religion is a waste of resourses and can lead to justice not being served.

  25. I thought it was interesting as well. I have met a few youngsters and it seems to be very popular among them. Most were convinced by this video about religion, politics and politians all to have been corrupted by capitalists who are bent to rule the world and that is by all means. There is alot of media content that can be accessed on the web eg youtube ,goegle video and other social networking sites all taking about the same things. By searching words like new world order etc anyone can easily access most of this stuff. They are all against globalisation and the multinationals. And also another one to watch is john pilger. I think that there is a final showdown between competition and cooperation as a means of survival for all in the world. Competetion is fuelled by ego and the result is to dominate or be dominated. Survival is the end and the means dont matter. Power is treasure in this world. Those that have it live to fight tommorrow and those that dont ..well look at the third world for an answer to this. Cooperation is what religions teach ,i think ,and it sees life as journey and a treasure of experience. These humatarians also preech cooperation and world community. This is how i see it but i may be wrong. ALLHU ACLUM
