  9. Libaan does not mean blessed it means "win" or a winner. when the Somalis say "Liibaan"...as in be a winner (guuleyso)also in some areas of Somalia they say "Libinta" as in "Guusha or you hear them say "Libta Hel" . I am not sure but I think It is originated from an arabic word of "Lib" as in winning. i think the arabic literiture experts in here can confirm it for us. Cheers
  10. ^^^^ Johnny Cash tried to shift the paradigm but did it work? my gues is the 'Sue' dude would turn the gun on himself. Again you would think that is character building taken too far! Cheers
  11. Well, I would like to point out for you lots, kids with Unique names are tormented in the playgrounds, don't get much dates in colleges, future employers throw away their resume's and some end up in mental institutions - that is if they have names like Gaylord Focker. As for Somali names just consider how they could be misspelled or how they could be turned into an abusive word! I know couple of somali names that could really be turned into some nasty stuff. So when it comes to names & uniqueness think about your kid in a classroom. Cheers

The hammer costs $1.00 more than the nail. How much does the nail cost? A. $1.10 B. $0.10 C. $0.05 D. $1.00 E. $0.15 Do Not Use a Calculator! Lunch finished...time to go back to work.... Cheers
  22. I heard once of a dude who changed his name "Jimcaale" to Jim and his surname Wacays into Weis - Mr Jim Wies 'pronounced as wise" I mean the dude is creative. Back to the topic tho, it is just human nature that the dominant culture always changes the names, pronounciation of names and the life styles of the minorities. name changing or simplifying name pronounciation is not something particular to Somalis. it happens to all ethnic minorities even to Indians & Chinese who are regarded some of the most cultured communities. Imagine, how we used to change names of the movie stars back in Somalia - one of my favorites Liibaan Kaliif! Whadda? I mean the real name was Lee Van Cliff (sp) ...what do you reckon his name would have been if he was attending iskool Waaberi Cusub? Cheers
