Somalia president arrives in Mogadishu Mon. January 08, 2007 07:31 am. (SomaliNet) Somalia’s president Abdulahi Yusuf Ahmed has on Monday arrived in the capital Mogadishu in undisclosed visit for the first time since he was elected as president in 2004. A plane carrying president Yusuf and his delegation has landed at Mogadishu main international airport around 2:05 pm local time amid tightened the security by government forces along with the Ethiopian troops. Abdirahman Dinari, the government spokesman has confirmed Somalinet the arrival of Mr. Yusuf which is seen as milestone. Many government officials in Somalia capital welcomed the president at airport. He has been settled in ex-presidential palace. Unconfirmed reports say that president Yusuf will stay in Mogadishu where he will continue his national duty and the government will entirely relocate in the capital since it now controls south and central Somalia. Most of residents in the capital see the arrival of the president in Mogadishu as positive step forward. Earlier, Somalia’s president Abdulahu Yusuf believed Mogadishu as base for terrorists. Sources close to the president say that Mr. Yusuf will deliver speech tomorrow.

Somali president rules out dialogue The president of the transitional Somali government has ruled out negotiations with the Council of Islamic Courts, now besieged in the country's southern tip. Abdullahi Yusuf entered Mogadishu, the capital, on Monday for the first time since taking office in 2004, protected by his soldiers and Ethiopian troops who helped rout the Islamic courts. "With regard to holding talks with the courts, this will not happen," Yusuf told Al Jazeera in an interview before flying to Mogadishu. "We will crack down on the terrorists in any place around the nation." Yusuf said that Somalis who hate the presence of Ethiopian troops on their soil are in the minority. So many Ethiopian and government troops driving dozens of military trucks passed there today." Political process Djinnit said: "The council also stressed the need for an all-inclusive political process as called for in [the Somalia] charter." The US said on Friday that it was contributing $16m and the European Union has said it would also contribute.
