UN delegation visits Somalia Last Updated::2007-03-18 18:10:28 HRNet - Baidoa:- A high level United Nations delegation has arrived in the temporary seat for Somali government, Baidoa, just about 250km southwest the capital Mogadishu on Sunday, authorities said. The team visiting Baidoa consisted of 22 members led by assistant UN secretary general Kalomo, They had a meeting with senior Somali government officials including Premier Ali Mohamed Gedi and foreign minister Isma'il Mohamud Hurre Buba. FM Buba said they discussed about possible UN forces deployment in the horn of African chaotic nation in replacement for current AU peacekeepers in the country. Last month the U.N. Security Council voted unanimously to authorize an African Union force to help stabilize Somalia, setting the stage for U.N. peacekeepers to take over the long-term job of bringing peace to the Horn of Africa nation. Buba also said they appealed the UN envoys to give a logistical and financial support to the interim Somalia government to over come this critical turn over time, a move he described as accepted by the UN team. "For the first time in 15 years, the Somali people have a prospect of being governed by representative institutions that will provide them with security and stability," Mr. Kalomo said after meeting with Somali authorities. ^^^No peace existed when the clan courts was in charge, there was war being preperaed in a wide front across the country. They came about throught four months of destructive urban war, then they fought in Bandereadley, beledweyne, Kismayu, Baidoa fronts and then they lost. The peace Somalia enjoys now did not exist in the time of the clown courts. Today there is no war in Kismayu, Mudug, Bay & Bakool and most of Mogadishu is tamed Thus acroos the country it is the TFG that has brought peace.. Bashi no one here is saying that the Boqor, Islan, Garad, Uagas or Beldaje are political titles which have allot of power. However these households are respected in many parts of Somalia in general and untland in particular. They play a key role in settling disputes political and otherwise and are called on by politicians to mediate in many cases. In Puntland there are four main houses, the top being the Boqor.. The old guard are gone and a new group has taken over Islan Bashir, Islan Ciise, Garad Jamac the new Beeldaje and now King Kong.. I wish them all the best.
