Burn Notice;800213 wrote: care of Dafy our resident Geologist All good news but the fat lady hasn't sung yet. Oil and gas shows are good, progress is painfully slow but that's not really an issue. If they're running LWD they'll have a pretty good idea what the quality of those sands and shales are already but will confirm with the wireline logs. 9-5/8" shoe is a normal planned depth with one or two liners following and we should know soon what the first proper target reveals. Positive RNS but doesn't really justify the RMP response. Suspect they're being cagey with their info and JR seemed to know the 400m thing too soon for them to be giving us latest news. I always suspect they are deeper than they profess. They said it's an anticline which is basically a big domed sequence so a very typical trap with apparently no migration into the upper soils. Good update but it doesn't mean it's a winner quite yet but all the signs are good. I must stress that the biggest bonus is no problems and I'll be happy when they get that production casing in and cemented. Not long to wait now but keep the champagne cork in, maybe just take the wire off in preparation. Great news, thanks for the update...

Burn Notice;799925 wrote: HORN PETROLEUM UPDATES DRILLING OPERATIONS IN PUNTLAND, SOMALIA Dharoor Block in Puntland, Somalia and is currently at a depth of 2053 meters. The upper 1600 meters of section drilled to date includes a thick section of Tertiary limestones and shales that appear to be a regional seal as no oil or gas shows were encountered above this depth. The well is currently drilling a 400 meter section composed of interbedded sandstones and shales believed to be Upper Cretaceous in age. Most of the sandstone intervals in this section have exhibited oil and gas shows confirming the existence of a working petroleum system “David Grellman” President and CEO That line means they found Oil, working on how much. ................................... the Citizens Committee for Fair Redistricting. We are a group of individuals, business owners, religious leaders, community activists primarily from the Somali and East African Community, who are interested in participating in the redrawing of the thirteen City wards which represent Minneapolis residents. We believe that the time has come for the City of Minneapolis to recognize the diversity of Minneapolis residents. According to the last federal decennial census, the City of Minneapolis has a minority population of 40%. Yet minorities are extremely underrepresented on the Minneapolis City Council. Currently, of the thirteen wards, there is only one elected official from the minority community. In a city of 382,000, there are over 150,000 minority members. We think this lack of representation to elected offices in Minneapolis City Hall is grossly unfair. We also find some of that underrepresentation can be attributed to the way current ward boundaries are drawn. Citizens Committee for Fair Redistricting, Proposal.

Somali's are underrecorded. We make up around 10-15% of the City. The whole City has a population of 389,000 with 150,000 coming from the minority groups. The Somali's are countd under the African American block. The new proposed Ward 6, unites the voting power of the East African block. The process is going well so far and it will be a historic moment for the East African community as a whole. To have changed the map of the City will energize the people and increase participation.

I believe from a business sense this was a master stroke for the Turks. Mogadishu will be an aviation hub no doubt and they will win in the long term.

Turkish Airlines has started flights to Somalia's capital, making it the first commercial carrier outside East Africa to fly there in more than two decades. Turkey's Deputy Prime Minister Bekir Bosdag took the maiden flight from Turkey's Ataturk airport into Mogadishu on Tuesday. After arriving in the conflict-ridden capital, Bosdag said Turkish Airlines has provided a way for Somalis to travel to the outside world again. “Somalia will restore its lost international air lane again with the help of the Turkish government.'' Somali President Sheikh Sharif Sheikh Ahmed expressed gratitude to Turkey. “We thank our Turkish brothers for the assistance and we receive it with an open heart.” Turkish Airlines is scheduled to fly to Mogadishu twice a week. In August, Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan became the first non-African leader to visit Somalia in 20 years. During that trip, Mr. Erdogan vowed to help Somalia lift itself from decades of chaos and conflict. He promised to reopen Turkey's embassy in Mogadishu, help Somalia develop its infrastructure and promote business and educational opportunities. Somalia has not had a stable central government since 1991. The U.N.-backed transitional government is currently fighting militant group al-Shabab, which controls parts of southern and central Somalia. The country is also recovering from a severe drought and famine that displaced hundreds of thousands of Somalis. (( Video includes soundbite from Somali President Sheikh Sharif Ahmed in Somali (translation below): Ahmed Act: “We really thank the Turkish government, which has helped our people during a time of suffering and today they have begun new international flights into Mogadishu and the rest of the world.''

Mogadishu, the capital of Somalia, has been a playground for many different groups for the duration of the past generation. In the early 90s, after the ousting of the Mohamed Siad Barre, warlords and clan militias seized the city and held it captive until the Islamic Courts Union (ICU) ousted them in 2006. Following the short reign of ICU, the city was again engulfed by brutal war when large portions of the Mogadishu were taken hostage by the terrorist organization, Al-Shabaab (which previously served as the military wing of the ICU), as they waged war against the internationally recognized government of Somalia. With the exit of the Al-Shabaab militia from Mogadishu a few months ago, the city has begun to rebuild at a remarkable rate mainly due to members of the Somali diaspora returning to invest in the city and reconstruct properties, as well as development projects initiated by the Turkish government. Over the years, many have wondered if the Mogadishu of the past could ever be rebuilt; if Mogadishu could ever live up to its former name (“The Pearl of the Indian Ocean”) or if it would continue to be a ‘museum of war’ and forever remain ‘the most dangerous city in the world’. The people of Mogadishu have shown themselves to be a resilient bunch. Friday beach parties at Lido beach have attracted hundreds of residents and symbolized how far the city has come in terms of peace and governance. Neither warlords, nor marauding militias, nor constant killings could destroy their will to live and thrive and neither will terrorists, bombings, or beheadings. The city has begun to return to a sense of normalcy, one that it hasn’t experienced in nearly two decades, not even during the 6 months of relative peace under the ICU. There isn’t a sense of fear looming in the clouds like there was during the ICU era. The residents of Mogadishu are truly free and the Transitional Federal Government of Somalia and their allies (the African Union troops) should be commended on the work they have done to free Mogadishu of the Al-Shabaab cancer but their work is not yet done. Al-Shabaab still control many regions in Southern Somalia and have vowed to bring instability to the peaceful regions in Central and Northern Somalia. Hopefully, the recently-approved increase in AU troops and targeted air strikes against Al-Shabaab bases will help bring an end to this menace once and for all. Turkey has now committed more than $365m in cash and aid to the African nation. Al Jazeera's Nazanine Moshiri takes a look at why Turkey is so interested in Somalia.

Dear Turkey, Speaking on behalf of the Somali people everywhere. I would like to thank you for your courage, for your kindness and for the being there for us in our darkest hour. We will never be able to repay this debt. We shall never forget that in Turkey Somalia has found an ally, a friend and a sister nation. May Allah SWT bless you and keep you prosperous...
