Somali militants threaten more attacks after killing 30
Xaaji Xunjuf replied to Xaaji Xunjuf's topic in Politics
We know alshabaab is defeated in much of southern Somalia and are losing territory every single day but Alshabaab has changed its strategy to strike with homicide attacks. And create insecurity obviously they cannot combat 5 African union countries and are under-equipped and out numbered. But their attacks are deadly and well organized and carried out in perfectness. What is the security plan of the government how is the intelligence of the government how competent is the interior minister. Is there a chance to reconcile the government with alshabaab? -
Somali militants threaten more attacks after killing 30 Reuters Tuesday, April 16, 2013 Somali militants linked to al Qaeda warned on Monday of further attacks in the capital, a day after killing at least 30 people in a wave of coordinated bombings and shootings that exposed the fragility of security gains in Mogadishu. African peacekeeping troops blocked streets and searched houses across the city at dawn to flush out suspected members of the Islamist militant group al Shabaab, which claimed responsibility for the strikes. But the rebels warned of more attacks and taunted the Mogadishu government, which they consider a Western stooge, over its trouble securing the city as Somalia struggles to emerge from more than two decades of conflict and anarchy. Although a military offensive under an African Union peacekeeping banner has pushed al Shabaab from urban strongholds in central and southern Somalia, the attacks reinforced concerns the militants remain a potent force. "Yesterday's blasts eliminated the dreams of the puppet government. More lethal attacks are coming," Sheikh Abdiasis Abu Musab, al Shabaab's spokesman for military operations, told Reuters by telephone. At least one car bomb exploded and several suicide bombers blew themselves up at Mogadishu's law courts on Sunday. Gunmen also stormed the court compound, spraying it with bullets. Two hours later, a car bomb was detonated near the city's fortified airport. The U.N. Security Council condemned the attacks and said it was willing to "take action against those whose behavior threatens the peace, stability, or security of Somalia." Prime Minister Abdi Farah Shirdon said the attack would not stop the government's efforts to restore peace and security. He said there were several experienced foreign fighters among the attackers at the courts, showing that the fight against the militants was not just a Somali affair. "We are concerned about the foreign involvement in this attack and this is why we are working so hard with our international partners on security and intelligence sharing," he said in a statement. Al Shabaab said six of its fighters were killed in the attack, but the government has not said how many militants died. The law courts were a symbolic target. Somalia's new government has made reforming the judiciary a priority in its campaign to shake off the country's "failed state" tag. The scale of Sunday's attacks suggest the Islamist militants remain well organized, enabling them to infiltrate the city from which they were driven out two years ago and target important installations with apparent ease. Western and Somali officials are concerned the militants were seeking to rebuild their strength in the capital. "It will be almost impossible to eliminate al Shabaab," member of parliament Mohamed Farah Jimale told Reuters. "They will regroup and continue bombing." Britain, which has a large Somali population and has warned of threats to its own security from Somalia-trained militants, had warned this month of an imminent attack in Mogadishu, highlighting the international networks involved. Somalia's finance minister said the attack reinforced the government's call for more aid to pay and train its security personnel as it seeks to rebuild the nation of 10 million people. "It proves that we need the support of friendly countries to help us in improving the security forces' capability in Mogadishu and other areas," Mohamud Hassan Suleiman told Reuters. A more stable Somalia could help curb piracy, which has flourished in the absence of an effective central government, and would soothe worries that Somali Islamists could expand territory they control which could be used as a training ground for militants who could strike elsewhere. A khadar Somaliland quest for recognition has taking a different course and it will not be only searched from outside but also with the talks with Somalia clarifying the future relations between SL and Somalia. Are you saying Somaliland is in a tight position although it hasn't still achieved recognition it has larger political base better organized a functioning government. And it forced Somalia to come to the negotiation tables as 2 equal entities. Where do you see khatumo in the next coming 2 years what have they achieved the past 1 year and a half domestically internationally.

Xaaji Xunjuf replied to Dr_Osman's topic in Politics
i find those topics unpolitical i rather discuss politics , Ditoore what you think of the Somalia and Somaliland talks hassan sheikh and axmed siilaanyo are talking its historical the 2 leaders from both countries haven't talked in a long time. -
They cannot make peace with the pirates since the pirates have different interests they will bring nothing of value to the pirates. They will most likely organize another conference and re declare what was declared before maybe with a new name. I think a faction with in the Khatumo faction can join SL but they will not join all of them. Problem for them they wont get any assistance from the Koonfurians may they be pirates or the Mogadishu folks.

There were rumors of cigaal wanted to take the seat of the Somali republic in 1994, he suggested this idea re modeling Somalia to his shape and moving the capital to hargeisa. When he came up with that idea 6 of his ministers resigned , than he dropped the whole idea and later that year the hargeisa civil war began. in 2000 he wanted to get hold of the conference , but the IC supported Djibouti in this and ismael omar geele got the project. -

The content of the the article is much about nothing and she keeps on repeating the same rhetoric's unity of the former Somali republic must be maintained at all cost. But its like she waiting for a messiah from Mogadishu to save her. But the folks in Mogadishu seems to be fine with how the talks are going between SL and Somalia. But we hope to see her back in here. Oodweyne the boys from wardheer will be writing articles in the next coming days and denouncing these talks and how the process is going, particularly mr nails in the coffin and our good friend faisal rooble and NGONGE favorite osman hassan lol.

OPINION With all due respect to Turkey and the International Community for trying to patch up the battered body of the Somali nation. The recent Somalia Somaliland dialogue in Turkey between Somalia’s elected President, Hassan Sheikh Mohamoud and Somaliland’s Ahmed Silanyo, who happens to represent only one segment out of the many local administrators that come under President Hassan’s domain as leader of the Federal Government of Somalia, does not seem to bode well for the well being of the Somali nation as a whole. It is said that the Turkish government agreed to host the talks at the request of the two parties and that Turkey is simply hosting it and the outcome is up to the two parties themselves. However, there is a great deal of suspicion as the said dialogue is viewed one-sided, and many Somalis are doubtful about the meaningfulness or credibility of the dialogue since the talks are specifically directed at one segment of Somali society, and are therefore not inclusive in nature. The dialogue is said to be a continuation of the UK and UAE talks of last year and only a few, if any, know exactly what transpired in those talks. Moreover, what many are asking themselves is that, after all the goodwill and the brotherly affections between Turkey and Somalia, and since Turkey has already pledged to keep Somalia’s oneness and integrity intact, why would Turkey agree to a situation that is less than aboveboard? There is also the question of why Turkey is allowing itself to be associated with a known criminal whose only aim is to dismember Somalia, even if it means imprisoning, killing or displacing other Somali communities? A position that is at the outset a stark departure from Turkey’s own objectives for Somalia. The Turkish government maybe in the dark about Silanyo’s criminal activities in Northern Somalia. However, Somalia’s President is very much aware of what’s happening in that part of the country. But since neither Silanyo nor our President are willing to tell the world the truth about the thorny issue of what the Somaliland is all about, perhaps the time has come for the Turkish government to get to the bottom of the issue from more reliable sources. Silanyo is not only responsible for the death and displacement of Muslim communities in Khatumo state, he is illegally and forcibly occupying lands and homes of fellow Muslim Somalis where his militia daily terrorize villagers, helpless women and poor nomads; while he himself poses as mouthpiece and sole charge of a Somali region that is home to five different ethnic groups that are independent of each other. It would be ludicrous to blast Turkey for not knowing the Somali clan system, nor can they be blamed for miscalculating the extent of how weird and dishonesty Somali politics can get, and we do know Turkey means well. But, if we take the term Somaliand to mean that portion of Somalia that was administered by the British during the colonial period, then we are talking about five distinctive clans, which even the British dealt with separately. And not just one cohesive unit whose political or economic interests can be solely represented and managed by a single entity. Hence, before any viable dialogue between Somalis can take place, such a dialogue must include all parties that have stake in such a dialogue. What’s more suspect and unforgivable to many Somalis is the Somali President’s role in all of this and the rationale of his meeting with Silanyo as though he were his counterpart. This is a real slap in the face for Somali unity and creates an identity crisis not only for imposter Silanyo, but also for our own elected President. President Hassan is bound by the Word of God he swore on to safeguard the interests of each and every Somali, and he was not elected merely for the sake of protecting the interests of a criminal who should have been in jail for crimes against humanity. The way our President conducted the so called Somalia-Somaliland talks creates more questions than answers, and the people who voted for this President to office have a right to clear, unequivocal answers: Firstly, in what capacity did our President talk to Silanyo? Did he talk to him as he would to one of the many local administrators of the country, or is he talking to him like an an independent leader of an independent country whose boundaries are clearly marked and agreed upon? And if so, where does this country’s borders start, and where do they end? Secondly, isn’t our President leader for the whole of Somalia including Khatumo State, Maakir State, Awdal State, etc, or is he just a Governor of Mogadishu? And lastly, if our President is the real leader of Somalia’s Federal Government who is sworn to defend the land and the people’s integrity, why is he turning a blind eye to the aggressions that are taking place before his eyes? Aren’t the people of Khatumo just as worthy of protection and honor as everyone else in Somalia? Doesn’t the President know that had it not been for Khatumo’s unwavering loyalty to the Somali nation there would’ve been no Somalia at all the way we know it? Needless to say, the Ankara Communique that came out Saturday, 13, April, 2013, is terribly deficient as it reduces the Somali President’s role, on the one hand, to that of a passive facilitator for Silanyo’s Somaliland, while on the other hand, he is treated or treats himself more like some sort of a buffer zone and a guardian for other nation’s interests, and not the interests of the people he should be protecting. The real issues, the injustices, the occupations, the lack of accountability on the part of Somali leaders, Silanyo etc., the very evils that should have have been addressed are not mentioned. There is also talk of curbing marital crime and serious crime, but nowhere does the Communique talk about Silanyo’s own transgressions on the ground or as to how to resolve this naked hostility if Somalis are ever to reconcile. On the contrary, the agreement talks about nursing the breakaway entity via Mogadishu and our President doesn’t seem to mind what Silanyo will do with the said aid, nor do we know for sure if our President is concerned whether this aid will translate into more aggressions and death for the peace loving people of the North as has been the case with previous international aid that found its way to Somaliland coffers. The grievances other tribes that reside in that region, such as Khatumo State of Somalia, have against Silanyo’s aggressions, incursions, and injustices are real and neither Somalia’s President nor Silanyo can sweep them away under the carpet. And unless the international community is dying to find on their hands yet another Somali tragedy, they will do well to test the waters before they plunge themselves headlong into Somalia’s troubled waters. Regardless, I applaud Turkey’s noble effort and humanitarian approach. I just felt it would be wise as a Somali living in turkey, a country I do love, to shed some light on the intricacies of Somali politics. It is only through a thorough understanding of the many dimensions of this issue that will help pave the road to a successful way forward. Interesting does this mean the city will be united. -
Oodweyne the Khatumites have a hard time finding the right spot in Africa their alligences with the pirates in the past brought them nothing but confusion since they are not the people of the sea. Wanting to be part of the HAG associated club also ended up in no results so joining the people of Khartoum seems to be the last option or they could join first vacate their villages in eastern sool and than move to oil rich abiyey.
-
Interesting but why is the President of Khatumo calling his people the people of khartoum are they related to Sudanese people. or do they wish to join sudan instead of SL.
