  1. braiding yr hair helps lock in the moisture. i got the same problem, except i have really short hair (i cut it) but the only thing i use is olive oil and i certainly dont need to use it every night, and you probably wont either when you begin braiding it. also are you sure the hijab is making youre head dry? cause it has hte opposite effect on me. its most likely the ablutions. cold water also helps lock in moisture. btw, when i used to go to duuxie, a woman asked a visiting immaam if their was some other way to perform ablutions for women when they didnt want to mess their hairstyles and he said it was okay ot just dab water at the hairline and than at the nape of yr neck and proceed to clean yr ears (3 times). now personally i dont use that method, but im just letting you know what i heard/know.
  2. tankers. destiny or cause and effect (what rules yr life pre-dominantly... in yr opinion)
  3. i had a lenghty question than decided to retract it. s/landers are beginning to scare me.
  4. im so happy my mother and aunts are all vocally against it. wallahi i get furious when i hear of girls of my generation or even younger who have to go through this cruel and unusual operation. also, i think its the traditional somali men from somalia who are more "pro mutilation", because the stereotype that we or it is dirty and incapable of controlling our hormones is prevailent back home (which is ironic considering what we see here).
  5. ^^^its the women who do this as a living who promote it, instill fear in their sisters hearts, convincing them that not only will it be better for their daughters but that her dowry will be even higher if they are mutilated. i dont know, even the worst lies, propaganda have a grain of truth in them, so women eat this up.
  6. krispy kremes are you lover or a fighter?
  7. may Allah magnify your reward, make better your solace and forgive your deceased.
  8. im all for c-sections, of course i dont like the idea of getting my tubes tied on the third one (exactly where is this the law), but if you face me with the options of getting stitches on my belly or stitches *ahem* elsewhere... yeah well, slice me up.
  9. i think they have very admirable traits when it comes to being fighters, but these are the same people who practice honour killings to such a degree that even to see a woman talking to a man she isnt married or related to warrants her life to be taken. insha allah theyll see their errors as a people.
  10. i just thought this was funny and thought id share, maybe the other dark skinned sisters can relate. hell even the short ones. ive never been insulted for my skin color or meant to feel embarassed about it (except by other blacks who arent somali, go figure), but thats partly cause when i was a baby i was one of those kids who didnt get their natural pigments til much later(5-6yrs old)so i pretty much looked like a white baby with a mike jackson skin reveral type disease. anyways when my aunts and uncles visit me (perhaps they are going blind) they always say how light skinned and (therefore) pretty i look to them. i am a solid dark brown, this is hilarious to hear. funnier is when they say how very tall i am. im about 5'6"-5'7".
  11. wooooow, 2 people born on the same day as me (june 24th), and yes garaab we are special. over here in mtl june 24 is saint-jean baptiste, its the french canadian equivalent to canada day with fire works, concerts etc. its always nice to have a party with youre friends and than stick youre head out the window to see the colourful lights in the sky especially at the young age of 5-6-7 when youre wide-eyed enough to believe that these celebrations are held specially for you. btw, i thkn these things are bogus (but fun, i mean i DID check what color id be) since all they do is say nice stuff about you and than add one semi-negative comment but cover it up with another compliment. of course you want to believe it and if youre a normal person you probably, at least sometimes, exudes some of those qualities whatever they may be.
  12. but do we as a people really put down dark skinned women? i think its more like putting light skinned women on a pedestal than it is saying dark skin is bad. bad teeth make you look ugly (unattractive) not the shade of your skin. my mom is dark skinned, the darkest of her family and shes also looked upon as the "pretty" sister but she also tells me when she was little she would constantly wash her face in the hopes of being lighter skinned. nobody ever told her dark skin was ugly but sometimes kids have a way of detecting the unspoken message.
  13. do you guys ever think she left her somaliniimo or islamic culture for the very fact of how she grew up? i mean i cant imagine her father being very "fatherly" to her if he intended on marrying her off for his wealth. i mean many of us moved ot the west and we didnt go down that path or stopped short of going that path but thats partly cause you/we had a good start to begin wiht right? you werent promised to anyone at 13, run away to a different land culture and find out (through westerners pov) how what happened to you at age 3 (5,6 wtv) was completely unnecessary and foreign/forbidden in this land you escaped to. if her story is true (and i only know bits and pieces of), i cant help but feel it is her family and us as a people whove failed her. she probably wouldnt have turned out like this if she had someone to intervene before she ran away.

Go to your local Islamic bookstore, and I guarantee you they will have some good material that will cover all the good stuff. i dont know if its lack of knowing how ot practice the religion as it is suddenly feeling completely self conscious about how i practice it. everything i do now, im questioning, was htat right? but yeah, i should do that. most of the books i have dont say nothing about not talking to homosexual men... im saying though they are men, but theyre kinda like women (you feel safe), but than their entire identity (or the part they like to identify themselves with) is sinful. see, its like ive entered a paradoxe of shirk here. and qac qac, id rather not get married anytime soon and i doubt any of these men are interested in that anyways, unless of course its to get their citizenship.

thank you all. im still working on it you know, trying to not miss any of my prayers, learning new suraats... i cant bring myself to go to friday prayers though. i just dont like praying with more than 2 people with me... it freaks me out. although, im thinking maybe im not adhering to the inner hijab. i mean i dont flirt with men or anything (i dont think i know how to), but i just realized the 2 people i talk to most at work are 2 homosexual men. is that a problem? (sounds like a stuupid question but) i mean there men, but they dont like women... or is that the problem. i think im answering my own question here.
  16. so ud, was youre lil social commentary implying that you should either dominate or be dominated?
  17. are you sure this part was also in yr text book? “ Son, there is no way in hell we can satisfy everybody, lets just do what we think is right and screw them people” its a lil too eloquent for a 2nd grade text book, no? as for the topic, you guys should re-read the thread in which a young girl accused 2 somalis of gang raping her. most of you (general nomad populations) blamed the girl for being "stuupid" enough to follow them in the first place (never mind she was 15 and one of the guys was consoling her from a fight shed had with her mother). anyways sometimes you cant be too careful. on the other hand we as somalis cant forget what a tight knit community we really are. maybe if the somali community here were bigger id feel different, but here any somali i see is like a bro/sis... kay wait im exaggerating like a mofo here. i only say salaam to the elders, you new niggs scare the ish out of me.
  18. 1)id recommend she get her tubes tied... and stop having sex altogether. 2)i dont vote, but b sounds about right.

cause im his 3rd wife, he says i have to identify myself as his property... im sorry, that seemed funny to me. *yells off camera* I WAS ONLY KIDDING, NIN YAABAN. i was browsing through the selection of avatars and thought this pic was funny, despite its reputation.
  23. perhaps i wasnt clear, but suggesting that women stay in such relationships was the last thing on my mind i just didnt like the way people (in my eyes) were dismissing all the turmoils a woman in such a situation would face. i mean lets stop patting ourselves on the back cause weve never been put in that position, or are priviledged enough (in education, self esteem and family) to never be put in such a situation in the near future and accually acknowledge what that person would be going through. help those in such a situation to get out of it with yr support, not condescension(sp?).

ummm, im gonna rock the proper hijab from now on (accually im preparing my wardrobe), i need tips on some summer wear, basically the best materials to wear especially if you have oily skin in the t-zone area (forehead and chin spec.). also, are you/we allowed to wear sandals? this may sound silly but i had a discussion about this earlier. me? i think it is (in fact i assumed it) but this person said your feet must be covered and if it is true do you know why? oh, and btw, my decision to rocking the hijab is in due partly to you wonderful lot. peace and blessings.
  25. yyaaaaaaaaaaaaay!!!! im sorry for every and any negative thing i ever said to/about you. i didnt even know i was given a movie poster... awwwww *sniff* i feel so happy:)
