  1. ^^ Too late For you O city of wonderful dwellings O rose amongst cities O Jerusalem, O Jerusalem O city of prayer Our eyes towards you, travel each day Orbit the halls of (your) temples Hugs the old churches and wipes the sadness of the mosques O night of Israa, O route of those that passed to the sky Our eyes towards you travel each day, and I pray *********************** The child in the cave and his mother Mary, two faces that are crying For those that fled and were made homeless For the children with no homes For those that fought and were martyred on the entrances (to the town) Peace was martyred in the home of peace And justice fell in the doorways When Jerusalem was conquered Love receded and, in the hearts of the world, war resided ***************** The child in the cave and his mother Mary, two faces that are crying... Blazing anger is coming and I’m full of belief Blazing anger is coming and I’ll bypass grief From all sides, it’s coming On (on top of) the horses of terror, it’s coming And like the overshadowing face of god, it’s coming coming coming! *************************** The door of our city is not going to be closed, for I am going (there) to pray I’ll knock on the doors and, I will open the doors And you O Jordan River, will wash my face with Jerusalem waters And you’ll wipe O Jordan River, the traces of the oppressive feet Blazing anger is coming On (on top of) the horses of terror, it’s coming And the face of dominance will be defeated The house - Beet El-Aqsa - is ours and Jerusalem is ours And with our own hands we shall return the glory of Jerusalem With our own hands Jerusalem’s peace is coming

It's quite clear that Zafir was replying to Cara's question and did NOT mean, intend or imply it's anything to do with the prophet (عليه الصلاة والسلام). Was it tasteless and opens the door for others to go one step further? Possibly. Was it blasphemous? Not a chance! There are rapists, killers, thieves and many nasty people that carry that name and we still regard them as rapists, killers, thieves and nasty. And it's not sacrilegious to refer to them as such (even if their name happens to be Mohammed). It has nothing to do with the prophet himself. But that's common sense, right? To agree with the usual nincompoop reactions of our resident simpletons is to give this nonevent a magnitude that it does not merit. Ciyaalka ka hadh ninyaho...

  4. ^^ Heh. You can't tell the difference between the two, can you? A khamriile will agree with you (whilst drunk) and throw his bottle away in disgust. He may even cry a little and tell you that you're the best Somali that he's ever met. He'll tell you he loves you too. A qat addict will either argue with you and give you a long lecture about the futility or effectiveness of this boycott, or, he'll ask you (not too politely) to go away and not ruin his buzz.

^^ You do know you were ALWAYS my favourite 'former neighbour', don't you? You still are. Feel free to hit me where it hurts but not too much or I'll report you to the landlord
  7. ^^ Virginity is a personal choice? You're just asking for trouble, aren't you?
  8. Heh. It means the man was looking for some camels
  9. ^^ The 14th must have been a busy day on SOL. I missed out on this gem of a thread. Good stuff saaxib though the crying on the bus is a tad melodramatic. But I guess the reasons for it will be revealed in good time. Ps I'm not nit picking here but the final version of this tale would need a bit of proof reading.
  10. ^^ It's an intellectual discussion, ayaayo. Only it seems the intellect is filled with ideas of treachery and betrayal!
  11. Absolutely. It's about time someone suggested the boycott of Ethiopian products. What an inspired idea! Half measures will not do here. Ethiopia must be made to suffer. Do not visit Ethiopian coffee shops, even if the waitresses there are the prettiest girls alive and would sit at your table pouring your coffee. Do not eat Ethiopian food and, as a mark of respect, stop cooking any food that has an Ethiopian origin in your homes. Cut out any Ethiopian words that managed to creep into Somali everyday speak. If the Ethiopians dress like us, we should change our national dress. Come on, urge everyone you know to do what they can to sustain this boycott. Ps At this point I think it is unwise to boycott Ethiopian bullets. The resistance must go on. But, if the brave boys and girls can help it, it would be advisable to dodge these Ethiopian bullets rather than boycotting them entirely. As ever, stuff and nonsense...
  12. I invite you to google the two magic words "virginity restoration", saaxib.
  13. ^^^ Always probably means since Vialli was made manager. Or could you be one of those rare souls that started to support chealski when Hoddle was manager? Aaah! Those were the days. A Newcastle team with Keegan as manager and some of the best players ever to play in the premiership: Albert, Asprilla, Lee, Ferdinand, Shearer, Cole, Beardsley, Gillespie, Barton etc.. Still didn't stop us from beating them 4-3 on two consecutive occasions.
  14. ^^ The topics might be controversial but you are invited to HAVE your say, remember. If you read some of the replies to this one you will find many reasonable and informative retorts and quite a few humours ones. This is not news reporting. This is a moderated news forum, exactly the same as SOL or any other forum. It may carry the weight of the BBC behind it but it still follows the original (and quite successful) formula for all forums: starting topics that carry a whiff of controversy. You're all spazzing out over nothing as usual...
  15. ^^ You don't understand. Somalia has always had oil but the super powers, in 1925 and with the treaty of geed qaluucan, have decided to keep the Somali oil in reserve and only dig it out when the need arises. The Oil crisis of 73 almost forced these powers to start digging operations in Somalia. But, waxa la yedhi, once the Saudi King was made aware of such a threat he hastily cancelled the Oil embargo! The West is exploiting Somali Oil by refusing to start exploration and production. It's a real shame.

Heh. You never let me down, saaxib.

These ones don't count. They're midgaans

  19. A British schoolteacher has been arrested in Sudan accused of insulting Islam's Prophet, after she allowed her pupils to name a teddy bear Muhammad. Colleagues of Gillian Gibbons, 54, from Liverpool, said she made an "innocent mistake" by letting the six and seven-year-olds choose the name. Ms Gibbons was arrested after several parents made complaints. A spokesman from the British Embassy in Sudan's capital, Khartoum, said it was unclear whether she had been charged. Embassy officials are expected to visit Ms Gibbons in custody later. "We are in contact with the authorities here and they have visited the teacher and she is in a good condition," an embassy spokesman said. The spokesman said the naming of the teddy happened months ago and was chosen by the children because it is a common name in the country. "This happened in September and the parents did not have a problem with it," he said. 'Very sensitive' The BBC's correspondent Amber Henshaw said Ms Gibbons' punishment could be up to six months in jail, 40 lashes or a fine. The school has been closed until January for fear of reprisals. Fellow teachers at Khartoum's Unity High School told Reuters news agency they feared for Ms Gibbons' safety after receiving reports that men had started gathering outside the police station where she was being held. The school's director, Robert Boulos, said: "This is a very sensitive issue. We are very worried about her safety. "This was a completely innocent mistake. Miss Gibbons would have never wanted to insult Islam." Mr Boulos said Ms Gibbons was following a British national curriculum course designed to teach young pupils about animals and this year's topic was the bear. Ms Gibbons, who joined the school in August, asked a seven-year-old girl to bring in her teddy bear and asked the class to pick names for it, he said. "They came up with eight names including Abdullah, Hassan and Muhammad," Mr Boulos said, adding that she then had the children vote on a name. Twenty out of the 23 children chose Muhammad as their favourite name. Mr Boulos said each child was then allowed to take the bear home at weekends and told to write a diary about what they did with it. He said the children's entries were collected in a book with a picture of the bear on the cover and a message which read, "My name is Muhammad." Book seized The bear itself was not marked or labelled with the name in any way, he added. It is seen as an insult to Islam to attempt to make an image of the Prophet Muhammad. Mr Boulos said Ms Gibbons was arrested on Sunday at her home inside the school premises after a number of parents complained to Sudan's Ministry of Education. He said police had seized the book and asked to interview the girl who owned the bear. The country's state-controlled Sudanese Media Centre reported that charges were being prepared "under article 125 of the criminal law" which covers insults against faith and religion. No-one at the ministries of education or justice was available for comment. One Muslim teacher at the independent school for Christian and Muslim children, who has a child in Ms Gibbons' class, said she had not found the project offensive. "I know Gillian and she would never have meant it as an insult. I was just impressed that she got them to vote," the teacher said. In Liverpool, a family spokeswoman said Ms Gibbons' grown children, John and Jessica - both believed to be in their 20s - were not commenting on her arrest. "I have spoken with her children and they do not want to say anything and aggravate the situation over there," she said. Friends and neighbours of Ms Gibbons expressed their worry for the former deputy headteacher and respected educator who moved to Sudan in July. "Gillian is a very talented and able teacher and she was extremely popular with the pupils at this school," said Gillian Jones, Ms Gibbons former colleague at Dovecot Primary School in suburban Aigburth. Cartoons depicting the Prophet Muhammad printed in several European newspapers sparked violent protests around the world in 2006.
