  1. ^^ I had a feeling that a lady would be the first one to share the mother's name with us. Waliba full name! Men refuse because they're scared I (or someone else) will tease them later with words such as "warya, inna Ubax, ii waran?"
  2. A&T, your track record in "waxa la yedhi" is no good, saaxib. Marka other than hearing about someone making threats, what other evidence do you have that you are in clear and present danger? Ileen you're the same guy that heard about the plot to break Silaanyo's daughter's heart! More evidence or it did not happen.
هلم إلى العرض على الله تعالى". http://ar.islamway.com/fatwa/12308 You've got to translate the hadeeth yourself. Edit: Praise be to Allah, the Lord of the Worlds; and may His blessings and peace be upon our Prophet Muhammad and upon all his Family and Companions. "There is a weak Hadith that reads that the Prophet (Sallallahu Alaihi wa Sallam) said: Allah will call the people on the Day of Resurrection with their mothers' names to cover His slaves . Sheikh al-Albani graded it as fabricated Hadith in his book "Silsilah al-Daeefah". The truth is that people will be called by their fathers' names on the Day of Resurrection. Imam al-Bukhari entitled a chapter in His Sahih by this: 'calling people by their fathers' names', under this chapter he reported from Ibn Umar that the Prophet (Sallallahu Alaihi wa Sallam) said: For every betrayer, a flag will be raised on the Day of Resurrection, and it will be announced (publicly), this is the betrayer of so and so, the son of so and so . In short, people will be called by their names and their fathers' names not by their mothers' names. Allah knows best." http://www.islamweb.net/emainpage/index.php?page=showfatwa&Option=FatwaId&Id=86110 Edit 2: Sayid, I was the one who asked the question. I can't be the first to answer. Bal you start and when three or four others answer I too shall share my glorious mother's name with you all.
  4. ^^ War father's name is caadi. By the way, in aakhiro, they will call you by your father names (according to the scholars). The story about being called by your mother's name has been rejected by most scholars. (I knew nobody would share it. Not the men at least). :D
  5. ^^ Nabiga hoydii magaceed? Nabi Ciisa na? Bal adigu maxaa kuu diiday inaad inuu sheegtid magaca hoyadaa?

  7. ^^ Ma ila argtay? Poeple get offended when you ask them their mother's name. Wonder why!
  8. Carafaat;811495 wrote: Ngonge, Hiilqaran has members and offices in Bosasso and Muqdisho. It even has members in Hargeysa. When you say 'members', do you mean supporters? Dee Sharif had 'members' in Somalia too back then. Maakhir has members there. Awdal has members. But the 'party' (all the meanings of the word) is always abroad.
  9. If someone asked you this question, what would your reply be? (I leave the context and surroundings to your imagination). In addition, if you decide to answer the question, would you actually say her name or would you give a discription such as inna Cumar Cadho, Xaaska Fouad Feedh, Dhaahir Dhirbaaxo walaashi, etc? Bal let me try it: Err..Hoyada magaceed?
  10. How did I miss this thread! A&T, the rascales behind this new party are really no different to Sheikh Sharif in his Asmara days. But at least when he created his Alliance for the liberation of Somalia (or whatever it were called), he was forced to do it in a foreign hotel. There is nothing stopping those behind this new party from going back to Somalia and doing the whole thing there. Otherwise, how much different is it from the Maakhir State celebrations in foreign capitals? Naga daaya.
  11. Horta Somalina Bob ma argto miya? He's been egging A&T on all day.

It's fair enough and, as Abwaan says, this is a Somali tradition, etc. However, Sheikh Sharif is supposed to be the president of a nation. There has been all the fuss about the Garowe one & two deals and all the (supposedly) progressive deals that came out from that. The concepts applied are all modern and the assistance of the International Community were sought (or was it forced) along those lines. Sharif may not upset tradition but tradition will upset Sharif. He is not sure that he'll keep the job after August and, I assume, that all his recent energy(qutie impressive it is too) is as a result of attempting to secure his position byoned August. In that regard, appeasing Somalis should not be his aim but rather appeasing the IC. How could he do so when he's appearing to demean women by accepting them as gifts? A big, fat own goal if I ever saw one. p.s. Reminds me of an aged reletive of mine who once told me "gabadh baan ku haya". My Somali was much worse than it is today and in my haste to politely ask her to "keep her for me", I shouted back "Hayso". I can still hear her habaar....
  13. ^^ Ayaayo, mala qabsatay ingreeska or do you still look for a tima jilic everytime you drop your spoon?
  14. ^^ Doesn't the recent coal ban extend to SL, Siciid? Or is this a different kind (not the trees, etc).?

Laakiin kama dhigna in durbadiiba ay dhaqan gasho (helida xuquudooda) waayo waxay u baahan tahay in hoos laga soo bilaabo, Qoysaska, Iskuulada iyo iwm.. Siyaasado waa 90% preception, saaxib. Waxay aheed in la yidhaahdo "Madaxweynhu gabadh reer hebel ayuu mehersaday". Same thing but two different impressions. If I were on of challangers to the post of president post August 2012, I would milk this story with the International Community (with them being the kingmakers here) forever and ever. There is plenty of milage in portraying Sheikh Sharif as a backward man who will not push Somalia into the 21st centuray and modernise the treatement of minorities and women, etc, etc, etc.... Waa "open goal", lakin, by the reactions here, I can see that most Sheikh Sherif's challangers will probably miss the point and actually feel sore that it was not them who got given a girl!
  16. ^^ Last minute. com..gabadh na waa la siiyaay! :D

Ugaaskii reer cali wanaag ayaa wuxuu igu yidhi waad wada kulanteen, markaasaan ku idhi maxaad u xidhi weyday oo aad jailka u dhigi weyday ninkaa qadyaan baan ka taaganahaye...next time you go back to Mayfair xadhig isu diyaari. Peace, Love & Unity. The negotation is still ongoing. A&T knows what he's faced with and realises that the gabaati could have been much more than this (bal ka waran hadii ku odhan laheed "gabaatiga ha noqdo from Mecca Al Mukarma ilaa suuqa bakaaraha"!). p.s. Admittedly, I have no idea how much of a distance that covers. Lakin a road block is a road block.

Yes but the Garowe agreement stipulated that 30% of parliament members are going to be women. This indicates that the Somali government is moving away from tradition and giving women their just dues. However, when those taking part in and setting up the political process engage in such a backward idea like 'giving' the president a woman, what does it actually say about their honest intention of involving women in the shaping and running of the country? Sheikh Sharif should have politely declined the "offer" and reminded them of the changing realities. Surely, this is an open goal for his opponents to attack him with when the real jostling for positions begins!
  19. Heh. On the one hand Somalia is encouraged to improve the lives of its women (with that 30% women parliment, etc) and on the other, Sharif gets given a girl. Gabadha sidee ba loo siiyaay? Ma bac ba lagu xidhay mise Taksi baa la saaray?
  20. ^^ Not in the last ten years, no. Though I did have a kickabout with the kids this past Sunday. (get better soon warya).
  21. ^^ :D You got me thinking about Maaddeey and his shukaansi methods (allah yesaamxak). Now all I have in my head is the line: "hadaad i jeceshahay, is dil"...
  22. What happend to your knee, LoZ? Did you do a Norf and attempt to play football again?
  23. Juxa: Xaasid. Bal maxa kuu diiday in aad yara aamustid o sugtid jawaabtu qori laha? I wanted him to sweat a little and type a three page refutation.
