  1. Quick question guys, before the collapse of the govt in somalia in 1991, which city was used as the secondary port after mogadishu? I assumed it was berbera but now I'm thinking it could have been bossaso.
  2. Good luck on your trip sister, everywhere in waqooyi galbeed is safe, however don't dress like fish n jabis in burco or you will be chased by old men with bakoorads. Btw I would recommend you to go to the beautiful towns of Xiis and maydh, one of them has a small island offshore - I think it's Xiis.
  3. Firstly, I would like to say Allah ha uu naxariiso Siad. Walaalayaal nin dhintay maxaa la ga soo hadal qaadi. Secondly, I would like to add that although he is dead, only god can help him. However the man was to blame for Somalias problems, because he took over a united and peaceful nation. Thirdly, It was clearly evident he was trouble from the beginning - regardless of all the good stuff he did - because he wasn't elected in a free democratic election as his predecessors, he forced his way into office. What else could you expect he was a askari, all they know is war and force. Lastly, If he had any mercy he wouldn't of massacred his people the way he did. For example in Hargeisa he arrested innocent students who were protesting against him, he chained them to trees, he then ordered that they be machined to death, however that isn't the worst part, he wasn't satisfied so he ordered that a tank should run over them to the ground until they were buried in the ground . So I say someone who could order such things as that and many other atrocities in other areas mentioned( Baidoa, Xamar, Burco etc. ), and can you say ninkaas ayaa naxariis leh? I don't think so. However I say let Allah be the judge of him. P.S. Btw whos to know he wasn't being the assination of the great leader Abdirashid Shermarke
  4. NOTE: Burgao should be avoided. It is controlled by fundamentalists who do not like christian foreigners . Lol, I have only just noticed this; the fundamentalists could maybe be Al-Shabab and the christian foreigners probably being Ethiopia and the TFG who invited them.
  5. Sailor, I would probably think that they do have somali names, however there is very little information about them to begin with.
  6. Thanks for the info I didn't see the one you mentioned near xiis. Also I think I have seen another one in the bay of karin, although it may not be an island. Btw, my friend was telling me, that us somalis take our country for granted. When really we have many beautiful, unexplored, tourist-free places like the ones mentioned.
  7. I was discussing this with a friend who informed me of a series of islands off the coast of Somalia. I realised these islands are not well known if I hadn't heard about them and the only one I had heard of is Socotra - off the north-east coast of puntland - which is closer to Somalia but inhabited by yemenis. There are also a few more islands, some off the coast of ras kamboni, which are called bajuni islands, and there is also another two off the coast of saylac which I have no information on. The only one I have found some information on is bajuni: The Bajuni Islands or Baajun Islands are an archipelago in the Indian Ocean, on the southern coast of Somalia, from Kismayu to Ras Kiyemboni (not to be confusen with Ras Kamboni). They lie at the northern end of a string of reefs which also include Zanzibar and Pemba. There are six main islands: Chandra, Chovaye, Chula have 2 streets which allmost known by all the people it is furadoni and filini wich southern part of island, Koyama, Darakasi and Ngumi. Chula with the village of Ndowa is the only island with a significant population. Other islands of minor importance are: Kandha Iwu, Fuma, Ilisi and the island of Kisimayu (actual Kisimayu harbor) attached to the coast in 1961 during the construction of Kismayu Port. Diving the Bajuni islands is a great. The reefs are unbleached and untouched; with depths from 10m to 35m. Fish shoals are huge and the water really warm: 27 - 32°C. NOTE: Burgao should be avoided. It is controlled by fundamentalists who do not like christian foreigners. Btw if you have any information on them feel free to add, as it would be very helpful for me to learn about these islands, thanks.
  8. Although i've never been to xamar, I heard great things about it's beauty. However, anaga owrney meesha. We also didn't realise somalia wasn't only xamar, when one of the most beautiful natural landscapes were/are in sanaag region, so in that respect we took the rest of somalia for granted.
  9. Insha'allah waan arkii doona hadey xabashidu ay ka baxaan somalia, lakiin anigu uma maleeynayo inay aayar iska bixi doonan.
  10. I understand a little banter isn't all too bad guys, however there's a line you dont cross. Especially when Hargeisa is mentioned
  11. For instance, RED, could go to hargeisa and tell the prostitutes in the marfasho that what they are doing is Xaraam. He should help revert(only through educating them, but never forcing them-by hiding behind a fake cimaamad-- and bombing them into the AIDS infected smithers they rightfully ALL are) them back to Islam and then campaign to implement Shariah law in Somaliland. If his clansmen accept that, I think that it would be a very big plus for him and also help reduce the AIDS rate in Somalia's most infected city. Waryaa I assumed insults like this were against the rules of SOL, so keep your comments to yourself if you don't have anything nice to say.
  12. Taleex? and Qardho? I thought it was two Soler's display names. The only place thats of any important is 'Beerta Xoriyadda' , nuff said
  13. Hargeisa is difficult to remember seeing as its always changing. No seriously, I went in 2004, then when I went back in 2006, some parts were unrecognisable. The only area I know of that always looks the same is Xawaadle Like for instance this building wasn't built or even in construction in 2004
  14. Pan-Somali,Pan-Islam vs Qabiil, Region Warya, all Somalis follow qabiil and care more about their region than their country, Qabiil>Region>Wadan Gaalo-diid vs Gaalo-raac Somaliland has 99.9% Muslim population if not 100% so if you are referring to SL's govt and the xabashis then you are a hypocrite because you only have to look in your home first i.e. TFG Islamic governance vs fowr-bointi fife If you are reffering to al-shabab then this isn't a good time to be praising them according to recent events in Kismayo and presumably Hargeisa and/or Bosasso Free Men vs Xabashi Slaves Now you are talking crazy talk, because I don't see any free men in Somalia, and the xabashi slaves you mention well I am yet to see any in Somaliland with the exception of the govt who I can't talk for - as I do not agree with Riyaale as president. Finally I don't see what's the problem with SL trying to achieve independence, when Djibouti received theirs 30 odd years later they are doing fine - with their former colonizers living in their country, and americans occuping their land also.
  15. First of all, ilahaay ha unaxariso dadki garaxyadda ku dhintay. Secondly, this series of bombings proved that Somalis have no sense of feeling to kill their brothers and sisters. Finally some of the comments of SOLers after these attacks, proved to me what I had known a long time ago. And that is that Somalis where ever they may be will only care if something happens to their city or region - something Protocol mentioned. Also, I admit that although I was generally concerned about the trouble in the south for a long time, however it really hit me hardest me when I heard Hargeisa was attacked with bombs. So I would say that we (Somalis) should forget about the dream of Somaliweyn, because it was only a crazy dream that caused many lost lives. So we should all go our seperate ways because reer waqooyidda, reer bariga, reer koonfurka, reer galbeedka(somali galbeed) and even reer galbeedka(europe, america etc.) isma fahmaan. 8. "it was only a matter of time chaos was gonna reach the North." -let the chaos spread. I totally disagree with this response, as it condones these attacks. It is these kind of comments which make me wish Somaliland was an independent state. 4. "...There is price to pay for disloyalty and more importanly watching the suffering of your fellow Muslims while not lifting a finger." Somalis never help each other when in need i.e. Somaliland in 1988 needed help from their brothers(both Muslim and Somali) but didn't receive any. So don't only accuse Somaliland of this when all Somalis are the same in that sense.
  16. Ilaahey unaxariso, I just heard about this, if this act was committed then this is the correct way to deal with it; with both people involved to be punished. Laakin, subhanallah some muslims nowadays think like - money. If they are against the wadaads it is one thing, but to be against the deen, that is another level. If any believer commits adultery they know the punishment, so why should they be spared, the mercy is only with Allah(swt).
  17. Would you be eligible to vote as a Somalilander if you are a Somalilander by birth, but have lived in another country for most of your life? If so, where can I sign up?
  18. I don't know if it is a tuulo but there is place called balaayo salaam, near the tuulo Darasalaam.
  19. Abaaye(Xawlwadaag): Latitude - 9° 34' 20.33" N Longitude - 44° 3' 52.62" E
  20. Btw Supremacist, You say Somaliland is formed by Qabiil, I can't guarantee that it isn't but that isn't the only reason it seceeded. Also, what Somali person isn't overpowered by qabiil? All Somalis follow qabiil, intentially or unintentially.
  21. I would say Somaliland shouldn't help Al-Shabab if they are against SL seceeding. All I hear from Somali's in the London are 'we need to help our brothers and sisters in Somalia'. But that's all they do; talk, so I tell them if want to do something about it, do something to ease the suffering of fellow Somalis, whether its donating charity or starting up groups etc. e.g. the SNM was formed to help their brothers and sisters from a tyrant ruler, why can't Somalis in the west do the same against Abdullahi Yusuf? So I would say words are meaning less and sometimes actions are required.
  22. DhulQarnayn, You haven't mentioned any of the issues Jacalybaro talked about. Instead you decide to discuss pre colonial Somalia/Somaliland. You mention we Somali's are all the same, but when we were united we weren't treated equally. Finally how can Somaliweyn exist, if Djibouti wants nothing to do with it; Somaliland is seeking independance, and the other two are occupied and are better off this way. So I would say you (Somalia) go your way and we'll (SL) go ours.
  23. Woooow, wadankeeni gurux ayeey ahayd. If only I could have some memories of when it was peaceful (I was born in 87). The only two ways I would go back to live there permanently would be if the fantastic five (somaliweyn) reunited to be greater Somalia. Or as an alternative if Somaliland gets independance, this would be the next best thing and I would be on the 1st flight back home on Daalo.
  24. I don't believe the people of the south can be blaimed for the war, however the residents of Mogadisho are to blame for the 17 years of no peace, with the warlords etc.
  25. I have been following news happening in Somalia ever since the war started in December 2006 If you think that the war in Somalia started in 2006, then all of your 5 step peace process bears nothing. Walaal I know the war started long before 2006 but I didn't really follow any news on it until 2006. Somalia has been in war ever since I can remember, I fled from the war in 1988, so only since 2006 did I wake up to it. Nuune - I know that Somalia would have to overcome many obstacles before peace will ever come. So insh'allah with Allah's help we can overcome this crisis.
