1. LOL This is pretty bad This makes the Foreign Minister look really bad actually. You'd think he would be a bit more frugal, considering how poor Somalia is as a country.
2. @Homunculus said: Since he became the prime minister I noticed improvement in many issues, I didn't hear of any corruption scandals regarding him, so what is this motion about? Is it only about the shuffling of the ministerial posts? Are the president and the parliament that silly that they will fire a PM after one year over this? This solidifies my wish for a completely autonomous federal system, a government based in Mogadishu is a complete failure. My thoughts exactly. This incompetent President wants to start a tantrum simply because some ministers were shuffled around. Why isn't Qoslaaye focused on finishing off Al Shabaab while they're weak or trying to create some competent civil administrations around Somalia? I can't believe this is taking up the President's time when we should be using our precious resources for far more urgent issues. Anyone who supports the President here has completely lost his mind, and it solidifies my desire for a decentralized Federal System in Somalia. We really need to give up on Mogadishu
3. @Khayr said: On a related note, Has anyone seen that David Chappelle skit were he is a blind man that thinks he is white man and joins the Klan only to find out that he is black - much to his disapppointment. If you can post that video, I would appreciate it. One of the funniest skits ever. What are you implying here? Just come out and say what's on your mind.
4. @ElPunto said: This is a crap article with next to no analysis or evidence capped off with a picture of Muslims praying Eid. As if to suggest Eid prayers are inherently dangerous/extreme. I hate these labels - Salafi, Wahabi, moderate Muslim etc. There are only three - extremists, non-practicing and regular Muslims. These attempts to divide and label/self-label are by nature insidious and dangerous. I 100% agree with you
5. @thefuturenow said: Also, this "culture" that you praise when talking about Asians---is what slavery took from African Americans---history, culture, family. And it continues to this day. But I think the best example of "the system" is your own Somalis. Go to Minnesota and look at all those Somali girls' faces. They want to be white so bad that they bleach their skin. And look at the prisons--filled with Somalis. And look at the abortion rate etc. etc. They have culture. They have history. They have religion. And according to them, they're not "black" but "Somali/African/Arab." But the system says: "WELCOME NEGROES. Watch BET, eat EBT, and be free." Somali women who bleach their faces is a tragedy and is something that we Somalis should focus on stopping together as a community. But Somali women even bleach their faces in Somalia, where there are no cadaan people anywhere in sight. It's a form of self-hatred where a woman dislikes her brown skin and seeks to lighten it. But it's our job to correct this problem, and we need to teach ourselves to love the skin we're in and not try to imitate others. I know many white girls who are unhappy with their skin tone and they seek to tan themselves, so this isn't a Black problem but a human problem. And BTW, the Somalis in America who commit crimes and go to prison are those who imitate this "gangsta" culture which gets them killed/imprisoned. Just watch the music video I posted, and it's a perfect example of this gangsta culture. We make this destructive music, and we choose to listen to it and imitate the lyrics. And we destroy ourselves as a result.
6. TheFutureNow Saaxib, me and you agree more than you think. You just see the problem in a different angle. Asians will soon take over. They're more numerous, far more motivated, and more determined then the European White Man. Some of the fastest growing economies in the world are in Asia (including India and China), and the Asians have a culture of self-reliance and hard work. But yet 50 years ago, Asia was a backwards cesspool of starving people and turmoil. But look at how quickly the Asians have transformed their situation, and within 50 years both China and India will be 1st World Nations with a high standard of living for their citizens. Why can't we Africans do the same thing? Saaxib, I've grown up surrounded by white people. Trust me, they're not that smart. There's nothing really special about them as individuals. They seem to be pretty regular people but look at how much power and influence they have over the globe. Don't be awed by them, and don't think that you don't have the capability to outsmart him in the future. You just have to be determined and motivated, and united with your people. And be patient; Africa won't be a global powerhouse in my lifetime, but it's our job to make sure that within 150 years, Africa will surpass Europe in power and influence. Remember, the USA was a backward 3rd world nation in 1800 but by 1945 the USA was a global superpower. Things can change saaxib. But Africa will never ever be a global powerhouse if we keep complaining all the time and talking about "racism". And we can't do it alone. I want there to be millions of self-reliant Black Men who can combine their expertise and resources together to create modern nation-states. That's how every race of men reached the top, and it's our duty to do the same thing. I don't wanna live amongst cadaan people saaxib. I want to live amongst my own Somali Muslim people, in a society where I don't have to worry about racism or being marginalized because everyone in my country is walaalo. Where I don't have to look over my shoulder and worry about some racist Cop or some racist Judge or a racist politician. And imagine if we had multiple nations across Africa that had power and influence and the ability to shape global affairs. Do you think the European White Man would dare to come to Africa and exploit our people? He wouldn't dare do it. And we can't do that unless the rest of Somalis/Africans have the same exact attitude.
7. Look at this music video. Please watch the entire video and pay attention to the lyrics and what they're saying. It's very disturbing..... Since this video came out, 4 of the guys in this music video are dead And several more of these guys are in prison for various crimes. They're all from South-Side Chicago and all of these men are part of the gang life in Chicago. And people are trying to tell me that there's no problem, that a problem doesn't exist. The first step to solving our problems is to admit that we have one. Once we do that, we can take the right steps to solving it. But plugging our ears and ignoring it isn't doing anyone favors. And it certainly did no favors to 4 of these men in this music video who are now dead
8. Exactly! I have a cousin from Somalia who once studied in Calcutta and Hyderabad, and he told me that the people are unbelievably friendly and hospitable. He never once felt unsafe while studying in India. And mind you, he didn't have a high budget so he was forced to live in the low-income neighborhoods in India. The Indians living near him didn't even have running water, they lived in utter poverty. But he enjoyed himself and he never once felt threatened. Not once was he robbed or assaulted. Yet we read stories about the high crime in South Africa, where people are robbed, or carjacked, or even killed on a daily basis. It's a cultural difference saaxib.
9. @Khayr said: The Chinese that came to the States are usually affluent and wealthy people from Hong Kong. There are over a billon other Chinese folks in the world and they too have criminals and starving people. Your comparison is faulty. Actually, I just gave evidence that Chinatown was extremely poor, with low education rates and very high poverty. Yet Chinatown contains virtually no crime at all. So you're wrong here. And BTW, China has an extremely low crime rate....far far lower than in the United States or any African country. So you're wrong again. And China has one of the fastest growing economies in the world, and within 30 years China will be a 1st World Nation, so the Chinese are making the right moves and doing the right thing. And sure, when a Black teenager shoots another Black teenager, we should blame that on slavery and oppression am I correct? Even though in 1920 (before Blacks even had Civil Rights), the Black crime rate was far far lower than it is today. Blacks weren't killing each other back then, the way they're doing so today. But let's not let facts get in the way of your constant complaining. Let's blame slavery for what's going on in the 21st century! Let's forsake all personal responsibility and blame "Whitey" for our personal faults! Why should a Black teenager go to school and make something of himself, when he could be selling drugs, shooting people, going to prison, and blaming the White Man!? How do you hold such self-hating views saaxib?? Where's your self-confidence in your people?
10. @thefuturenow said: 1) I never thought someone would mention these two as having anything in common. 2) Pride is a bad thing. 3) Also, self-reliance is only half the battle. It works if you're looking at it from one person's perspective or one race's. However, Saff and Khayr are militants for humanity--although with two very different ideologies. And for human progress, you must fight for the oppressed--meaning you must fight AGAINST an oppressor. That is not blaming the white man. That is demanding and expecting better from humanity. 4) As for black on black crime, if I put you in a cage, I bet it takes you less than 24 hours to start acting like an animal. Look at your own Somali, Muslim people. 5) Respect the people whose struggle allowed you to spout your ludicrousness. You're only on SOL because a black man is in prison fulfilling the quota that feeds the prison-industrial complex. 1. Neither did I, until today. 2. Pride isn't a bad thing. Kibiir is a bad thing, and Kibiir is something completely different. 3. I'm against oppression as well, but I see the solution to our problems through self-reliance, instead of hoping that perhaps one day the White European Man will find it in his heart to treat us as equals. I'm not gonna place my hopes in him, I've seen the way he's behaved in the past and sure I'll be skeptical of him. You can promote self-development while at the same time championing the human rights of those around you. That's what Japan has done, that's what South Korea has done, that's what Chile has done, etc. 4. Bad analogy. No one here is being put in a cage. Black people are killing each other in their own neighborhoods, and selling drugs to each other in their own neighborhoods. I don't see the Chinese people in Chinatown doing that, even though Chinatown in San Francisco has actually been documented as the poorest community in all of California. “During the 1960s, one neighborhood in San Francisco had the lowest income, the highest unemployment rate, the highest proportion of families with incomes under $ 4,000 per year, the least educational attainment, the highest tuberculosis rate, and the highest proportion of substandard housing in any area of the city,” according to the social scientists Wilson and Herrnstein. “ That neighborhood was called Chinatown. Yet in 1965, there were only five persons of Chinese ancestry committed to prison in the entire state of California .” Wilson and Herrnstein, Crime and Human Nature, 473. The Chinese aren't killing and robbing each other, but we are. 5. Your views are a denial of reality and you're making an excuse for the behavior of our fellow Blacks in this country. That is unacceptable.
11. @Tallaabo said: You are a good preacher don't you think? Let me know if you come to my town, I will definitely attend you spirit raising, tear inducing, mind enriching, confidence boosting evangelical sermons :-D Saaxib, people like Khayr and Safferz just don't get it. Their lack of pride and their self-hatred is really irritating me. All they wanna talk about is "this person being racist" or "that person being racist" As if the White Man is obligated to treat you like an equal in his own country. It's his country, he built it so he can do whatever he wants. Stop relying on the White Man's benevolence and mercy and rely on yourself. I don't see Africans demanding equal rights or social recognition in Japan or Taiwan (both are 1st World Nations). What disgusts me is when I see Black Africans in Germany or Italy demanding equal rights and to be treated as a brother, instead of those Africans leaving Europe altogether and building up their homelands themselves. Leave Europe, get your education and degree and get the hell out of that continent! Why do we always run away from our problems? Africa doesn't have to be a scary place to live at all, we should be happy that at least we have a homeland that's teeming with natural resources and a beautiful scenery. Yet we don't recognize how lucky we are. The White people of South Africa recognized how resource-rich South Africa was and they built a modern industrialized nation-state. Yet we've been living in Africa for much longer and we've done absolutely nothing with it.
12. Safferz, that's an invalid comparison. These men weren't being deported to Mogadishu where certain death awaited them. Mogadishu is "dangerous", sure. But it wasn't like the Somali Government was waiting for his arrival so they can immediately hang him. People "may be killed" anywhere in the world, that isn't a policy that the Canadian Government follows or should follow. Next thing you know, Canada won't be able to deport so-and-so because he "may be killed" in whatever country he originates from. Whether he comes from Russia or The Congo or Thailand or Colombia.
13. Uncle Tom mentality wallahi..... This article is just 100% Uncle Tom inferiority-complex ridden garbage.
14. @Khayr said: DK, are you a Black Republican? No I am not. But I'm definitely not a Democrat and I definitely don't subscribe to the "victim mentality" which many Black-Americans subscribe too. I actually have pride in myself, pride in my people and I'm confident in what we can achieve if we put our minds to it. I don't see the White Man as superior to me which is why I don't blame him for my problems. I blame myself, and I seek to resolve my issues myself or with my community, instead of going on TV and blaming "Whitey" all of the time. Any Black Man who goes on TV and blames his problems on White people is implicitly admitting that he believes the White Man is smarter and superior to him, and the source of his misfortunes. Prove me wrong. I don't see Koreans getting on TV and blaming their problems on Arabs or Russians or anyone else. I never heard of the Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) ever blaming the Pagan Meccans for his misfortunes. No self-respecting man would ever do anything like that. What you do is you become proactive in changing your life, become self-reliant so you won't need the White Man or the Arab Man or the Chinese Man. Come to the table as an absolute equal. We Blacks are in a position of weakness, and it's completely our fault. And it's our responsibility to build up our societies so we can approach the White/Asian/Arab men as equals instead of being subservient and weak. Not only that, but I value black life. So when I see thousands of Black men being killed every year by other Black men, that pisses me off. It pisses me off that Blacks can't live in peace in their own neighborhoods, without a high chance of being robbed or killed. It pisses me off that Blacks sell poisonous drugs to each other, and bring each other down instead of uplifting each other. But no, you wanna focus on a White Cop being racist, or some random White Judge being racist. When you're completely ignoring the fact that we Blacks are our own worst enemies. And until we have a "self-reliant" attitude, we will always be taken advantage of and marginalized.
15. @Khayr said: Mooge, When waiving the flag of Puntland against Reer Xamar, you have no problem in using Islam to support your side. That is shameful! Mooge is talking about corruption and it's ruling in Islam. Maybe you should read Mooge's post before you attack him
16. Is it Canada's fault that the Somali Government hasn't set up the infrastructure necessary to accept deportees? Not even the Bosaso Regime or the Hargeisa Regime is willing to accept these deportees, so what is it that you expect the Canadians to do? Keep these men indefinitely in Canada until Somalia gets it's act together and set up a competent and effective national government?
17. @Khayr said: So why is this story being posted? Are we being told that a good Somali women is one that is: 1. Employed in a white collar job and 2. Is married to a Non-Somali? 3. Is assimiliated and has adopted an American (first) identity over other identities? This woman is well entitled to live whatever lifestyle she chooses to live. And you should be happy for her, as long as she sticks to Islam. And work whatever profession she chooses to work. And marry whatever ethnicity she chooses to marry, as long as he's a Muslim.
18. @Khayr said: I wonder if other "criminals" from say places like Europe and Russia, if they get the same treatment of deportation? Does anyone know? Btw, being told that the only prospects you have are in low paying jobs is not hospitality. Its called marginalization and blatant racism. Authubilah, you must be kidding me. What's with you and always being a contrarian, always talking about "marginalization and blatant racism"....as if that justifies the actions of these two Somali men, who sold drugs and assaulted people with weapons? I've been to Somalia. I've seen the job market in Somalia, where young men struggle to make a living and provide for their families. Yet these 2 Somali men lived in Canada--an industrialized and wealthy nation--and they had the opportunity to make an honest living and actually work. But they chose to get involved in drugs and crime. Wallahi mac sakoor. These men deserve what they got. Not only are they criminals, but they're unbelievably dumb. They didn't recognize the good opportunity when they saw it in front of them. And now they're paying the price for it.
19. Thank you for that Mooge, that's exactly what I was thinking. The scourge of corruption has done unbelievable harm to the continent of Africa. I can think of no other punishment for corruption than execution or at the very minimum give them life imprisonment. We complain about corruption all the time, we campaign against corruption. We've tried numerous corruption crackdowns in the last 40 years...only to see those charged with corruption receive extremely light sentences and never really being punished. And all this does is send a message to the rest of the African government officials that they can get away with this, they can get away with stealing millions of dollars and receiving bribes. Wallahi they need to receive the harshest of penalties. They need to be punished in the most severe manner. Either outright execution or life imprisonment
20. @Tallaabo said: Your assumption is completely wrong. Unlike Somalia Somaliland is not beset with political turmoil and has no chronic security problems. Our political system works for us but that is not the case in Somalia where the very existence of the government there depends on the presence of foreign troops. However, the Islamic courts did work very well in the brief period they ruled Mogadishu and the people trusted them. That's not good enough Tallaabo. We have countries in Africa which are "stable" but are beset with problems, too many to count. You're making it look like Somaliland is a utopia. Somaliland--in fact--is beset with many deep political issues, it's just not as visible as Somalia's problems. If you want the 2006-era Islamic Courts to rule Mogadishu, then you should practice what you preach and want them to rule over Hargeisa as well.
21. There should be no sympathy for Somalis like this. These men weren't Canadian citizens and when they committed their crimes, the Canadian Government wasn't obligated to keep them in the country. Since they weren't even citizens Drug trafficking? Assault with a weapon? No sympathy for men like this. I don't like how we have sympathy for criminals but not for their victims.
22. @Odey said: Lets me see if I understand you better , You want southern Somalia to be ruled by islamic courts ( mother and father of Alshabaab) yet you dont advocate for the same on Somaliland- your home village? Thank you for clarifying that point. CidanSultan knows he's contradicting himself, so he's gonna reply with a long-winded rant talking about how hopeless and corrupt Somalia is, and advocating an Islamic Courts Union for Somalia but suspiciously saying little about Somaliland. CidanSultan, what's good for Somalia is also good for Maamulka SNM. And if you want an Islamic Courts-style 2006 government in Mogadishu, then maybe you should start by building such a movement in Hargeisa, and then gradually move South to Mogadishu and Kismayo
23. I know this is a little irrelevant to state here: But corruption should be a capital offence in Somalia. I totally see nothing wrong in executing corrupt government officials. This trend has already begun in China when the new Chinese President Xi Jinping started a huge corruption crackdown, executing any government official guilty of corruption or abuse of power. Africa--and most importantly Somalia--desperately needs these anti-corruption measures
24. ^^Stop polluting this thread Alpha Galbeedi, I agree. This Professor's arguments seem innocent at first, but the long-term implications would be disastrous for Somalia. It frames the Somali penal codes as well as Somalia's social customs through their paradigm. In the West, it's actually legal to insult Jesus Christ or to mock the Bible, and they have the nerve to term this as "freedom of speech." Imagine the same thing occurring in Somalia. where Muslims would constantly be exposed to insults against Islam by corrupt self-serving Secularist/Atheist groups and individuals. I can tolerate debate and discussion between Muslim scholars and Christian/Jewish/Buddhist/Secularist leaders, and this is a tradition which was started with the Prophet himself. The Prophet (saw) himself got into debates and religious discussions with Christians in his own mosque, and Muslims have continued this tradition for centuries. Abu Hanifa famously involved himself in debates with Christians and Atheists. Many other Muslim scholars and teachers have done the same thing. The truth is not afraid of debate and Muslims frequently get into debates with others. But the debates have to be within specific social and public forums.
25. Galbeedi, when we discuss the punishment for apostasy in Somalia, we specifically discuss those who publicly make their apostasy known. And through this confession; they seek to undermine Islam in the public sphere, through insults, lying, and outright misrepresentation. If your Uncle was a godless Communist in the 1980's after he returned from Cuba, as you say, then nothing should happen to him as long as he doesn't publicize his apostasy and try to promote his godless beliefs in public. In Islam, there are very strict boundaries between the private and public spheres of society. A Muslim man isn't permitted to drink alcohol, but if he does drink alcohol in the privacy of his own home, then the Islamic State has no right to punish him or even reprimand him. In Islam, the right to privacy is a very very important concept. So much so that when Umar bin Khattab was the Caliph of the Islamic State, he accidentally witnessed a Muslim man drinking alcohol in his home (Umar caught a glimpse of it through the window), and instead of becoming angry at that sight....Umar was angry at himself for daring to violate that man's privacy. Islam carries the utmost respect for private property and human privacy. Even in the Islamic Court of Law, cases are thrown out if the defendant's right to privacy was breached. HOWEVER, if a Somali citizen like Ayaan Hirsi Ali were to apostatize from Islam and then subsequently write books insulting Islam, going on TV insulting the Quran as well as the Prophet, then that becomes intolerable. We're not obligated to tolerate such disgusting behavior. We're not obligated to tolerate the likes of Xabad or Allyourbase, who instead of keeping their godless beliefs to themselves, seek to publicize it and make it known; thereby spreading corruption in the surrounding society. Your Uncle didn't believe in God in the 1980's, but it's not like he publicized this. He kept it to himself, and sure enough 10 years later he reverts to Islam again. A Somali Muslim should have the right to live and prosper in his country without having to turn the corner at every second and being confronted by some godless Atheist insulting his religion, drawing cartoons of the Prophet, or behaving in any manner designed to irritate the sensitivities of Muslims. A Muslim shouldn't have to be on-guard 24/7, being forced to defend his religion to every Tom, Dick, and Harry. Not everyone is up to the task. If the apostates want to be left alone in their deluded beliefs, then they should take a page out of their own book and keep their beliefs to themselves. As soon as they start to publicize it, then it's no longer a private belief and the State has the right to step in and intervene. Every single country has their own social faux-pas. In fact, it's illegal in Germany to deny the Holocaust ever occurred. In other countries, saying certain things about the Monarch or the past Ruler can get you into a lot of trouble, and this isn't something unique only to Islamic societies.
