  4. The Simpsons convert to Islam Worst of American TV always popular in Arabia Ray Hanania | Creators Syndicate Posted October 27, 2005 E-mail this article Printer friendly version Most e-mailed articles Why am I not surprised that among endless reports from the Middle East of mass murder, carnage, civil-rights abuses, violations of international law and name calling, a story will slip through that is even more shocking? A sanitized version of the adult cartoon The Simpsons will be broadcast to Arab audiences. It isn't a part of the official American propaganda machine that now publishes a fluff magazine, broadcasts rock and roll music by radio, and fills the TV screens with happy talk news. The show has been rebranded as The Shamshoons carried by Dubai's popular MBC satellite network. The Arab TV version of the outrageous, near-X-rated show will downplay things like drinking beer and eating pork. But classic phrases that have made Americans laugh will remain. Homer Simpson, the ****** fat and bald American father, has been renamed Omar. He drinks soda, instead of beer, and chomps down on beef sausages from Egypt instead of pork hot dogs. It's all re-dubbed in Arabic. The Simpsons' conversion to Islam follows a growing trend not just in the West but among the American intellectuals who see everything that was once "Arab" now in terms of only "Muslim." Arabs will watch it, and it will probably get good ratings. And even though they deleted the content that offends the Islamic lifestyle, and even some political satire demeaning to Arabs and Muslims, audiences will still find enough to criticize. Arabs and Muslims can be like that. Very judgmental. Yet the sad truth is that the new program may portray a seamy side of American culture and society, even with the sanitized changes. But it will speak more to the failures of the Arab and Muslim worlds to translate their own creative talents into something worth watching on TV. Something besides the usual menu of boring talking-head news programs, censored news reports you know don't offer the complete story, and belly dancing, sex and sheesha pipes -- the very icons that Islamic extremists use to rally public anger against their secular governments. The Arabs and the Muslims are used to being told what is important and what is not by non-Arabs and non-Muslims, especially in the West. Although the Arabs and Muslims constantly and rightly denounce the American media for its biases and lack of balance, they continue to tune into American news stations like CNN and even the Fox Network. Hollywood continues to churn out anti-Arab and anti-Muslims films, most of which are rebroadcast in the Arab world. And the Arab and Muslim worlds have failed to create their own movie industry, at least an industry that would have as much influence on Americans as the American industry has had on everyone else. Al-Jazeera, the first real effort to provide balanced content to the rest of the world, stumbled when it was mercilessly assaulted by its Western rivals, mainly in the United States. The Bush administration has given the all-Arabic-language news-satellite station such a public drubbing that it delayed plans to create an English-language broadcast site for years -- years that cost it public credibility. Even if Al-Jazeera manages to get an English-language broadcast off the ground, most Americans won't watch it. They have been brainwashed into believing that somehow when Al-Jazeera shows images of dead Americans, that's hate, bias and part of the Arab and Muslim culture. When American TV broadcasts images depicting Arabs and Muslims in insulting situations and the mangled bodies of dead Arabs and Muslims bloodied in conflicts with American Marines, that's OK. The Arab and Muslim worlds still haven't figured out that communications is the key to power in the world. "The pen" -- a metaphor for Hollywood movies, radio, TV, newspapers, magazines and the book publishing industry -- is mightier than the sword, yet the Arabs and Muslims continue to cling to the sword in their fight for justice. Instead of achieving justice with the sword, of course, they only reinforce the animosity they face. While Arabs and Muslims have easily learned English and therefore have detrimental exposure to the full span of the American communications monolith, the Americans have no desire to learn Arabic. The Arabs must one day recognize that they have to stop producing media that reach their own community. They must produce English-language content for the West that is both professional and creative and honest. Until then, the Arab and Muslim world markets will always be fodder for rehashed trash from American TV and a legion of media products that are so clever in their anti-Arab and anti-Muslim hate that Arabs and Muslims feel as if they can't do without that noxious diet. 6. Once a dictator will always be a dictator. He is entertaining us just like how Comical Ali entertained us during the ousting of Dictator Sadam.
  7. Yes Animal Farm, the lawless city pic looks good. Not because of the gunmen, but because of the beautifull background surrounding them and the gorgeous blue sky. But this is the only pic that i don't know were its being taken. It could possibly be Mogadishu just like the stadium pic.
  8. No hope for Somalia as long as Warlord/killers are treated like Kings instead of treating them like Sadam Husein, in jail. Jumatatu is no different than G.Duke and the rest of Dictator Cabdulahi yusuf fans in SOL.
  9. Name the place? Stadium#1 Host building for NGO's #2 Lawless city #3 Transporting people #4 Transporting water #5
  10. ibn sina, let him be Dictator Riyale PR manager in SOL.
  11. This is, as the Ancient chinese would say, an interesting time to be in Somalia, for we are living, historically speaking, an interesting time, whereby, the worst of it, is that none of it’s unexpected twist and turn, will ever be the Somali’s collective design; apart from Somaliland, who will have a larger measure of how, her destiny may unfurl before the verdict of posterity. Tolstoy, daydreaming as usual.
  12. Thank you br Muhammad for your good efforts to educate us nomads about our Islamic history.
  13. These dudes don't want to agree with each other at all. True indeed. But what is more heartbreaking is the peoples blind support for these 2 camps.
  14. These are the 2 leading markets in the Somalian capital of Mogadishu. Suuq Bacaad pictures! Bakara market pictures Counting money in Bakara market. Lawless Xamar! Islamic Courts:Attemting to restore law in Mogadishu.

  18. Why do our houses have to have thousands colours. I see Somaliland on the move. I bet you don't wanna go back to anything that resembles Dictator Afweeynas days. Free at last. Somaliland on the move.
  19. US plans first face transplant The procedure would take about 10 hours US surgeons are to interview a shortlist of patients hoping to be the first to receive a face transplant. Doctors in the US have already carried out the procedure on bodies donated for medical research. Now the Cleveland Clinic team will choose a patient whose face is disfigured to receive a "new" face from a dead donor. The chance it will work is around 50% and experts have expressed safety and ethical concerns about the procedure. A new face The recipient would have to take powerful anti-rejection drugs for life, which carry considerable long-term health risks, says the Royal College of Surgeons of England, which formed a working party to look at the issue earlier this year. Also, it is not known how well an individual and their loved ones would adapt psychologically to a completely new face. There are a great many questions to which answers are needed Changing Faces charity It is hard to predict what the person would look like after a face transplant. The procedure would involve taking skin and underlying tissues from a dead donor and placing them on the living recipient. What do Nomads here think about this new human adventure.
  20. Bro i have a question for you, does it matter if there are 10000000000000000000 muslims in the world or in Euripe if the qality is bad??? We are the lower of the barrel when it comes to quality. Br salafi, you are right quality matters, and da'wah starts from ordinary Muslims like you and me. Thats why the number of people attending Islamic services is increasing across EU. I was watching news the other day during Turkeys EU membership talks, and they were saying increasing number of Turkish women are starting to cover their hair thanks to the men and women who are doing the dawah there.
  21. We still have along way to go to learn to live together. Can Puntland invade Mogadishu?
  22. The institute believes that more than 100,000 Iranian Shiites have converted to the Christian faith since the Islamic revolution. Most live in the United States. I wonder if these converts to Christianity are Baha'is claiming to be Shia Muslims.
  23. More than 53 million Muslims in Europe Survey shows Islam on the rise across continent -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Posted: October 22, 2005 1:00 a.m. Eastern By Wolfgang Polzer © 2005 ASSIST News Service WETZLAR, Germany – More than 53 million Muslims live in Europe – 14 million of them in the European Union, according to newly released figures. The Central Institute's Islam Archives in Soest, Germany, says the number of Muslims in Europe has increased by 800,000 over the last two years, reports the German evangelical news agency IDEA. The institute’s director, Salim Abdullah, says that among the 25 EU states, France has the highest number of Muslims – 5.5 million – followed by Germany with 3.2 million, the United Kingdom with 1.5 million and Italy with 1 million. Taking into account the whole continent, Russia has 25 million Muslims and the European part of Turkey 5.9 million. The Muslim population in Germany is mostly made up of Turkish migrants. But the number of Muslims holding a German passport has risen to almost 1 million. Muslim worship in Germany is on the rise. Approximately 200,000 take part in daily prayers and 493,000 in Friday prayers at mosques and prayer houses – an increase of more than 10 percent over last year’s figures. Islam in Germany is a "young religion," according to the institute, which counts 850,000 Muslims as minors. One in five Muslim adolescents worships regularly. The number of converts to Islam has reached a new high in Germany. According to the institute, more than 1,100 people changed their religion to Islam between 2004 and 2005. Approximately 60 percent of the converts were women. Most converted because they married a Muslim. But the reverse also is true: More and more Muslims in Germany are becoming Christians. Most are Iranians in exile, who left their country after the Islamic revolution of 1979. Iranian converts estimate that each year approximately 60 Muslims are baptized in Germany. The institute believes that more than 100,000 Iranian Shiites have converted to the Christian faith since the Islamic revolution. Most live in the United States.
