  2. Guys, you're being awfully rude here! Your reactions made me cringe. JB, Merry Christmas to you too and happy new year in advance! :]

  5. No offence to the guy, but if I were voting for anyone I would probably vote for Luke Donald.
  6. Throughout my life I remember being snarky about how uneventful the year has been for me. It seems the events were all waiting to culminate for 2011. Things I couldn't have imagined happened. Suffice to say for a while I won't be wishing for a more eventful year.
  7. Strangely, it seems many of you guys not only know that he is having an afterlife but are also aware of his situation down in there. I believe it was Bertrand Russell who said the trouble with the world is that the dumb are cocksure and the intelligent are full of doubt.

I tried to watch the game the other day, but the commentator used the phrases 'waa yahay' and, strange enough, 'area dangerous' in seemingly every sentence that I spent the whole time laughing. It was hard to see Sanaag out, nonetheless. :[

Make sure you go to a red brick/russel group university if you are in the UK and still applying; go nowhere else and stay clear from former polytechnics even if this means deferring a year. Make sure that you get a first (class degree). If you do this, regardless of the degree that you study (so long as it it highly scientific/mathmatical), all career paths shall remain open to you. Best advice given so far!
  11. This thread has become a joke! What are people basing the suggestions on? Typical Somalis obsessed with medicine! I know of Somali guy that has a PHD in Pathology and does research in disease pathology with a big lab that is funded...A good career if you are curious enough. It should be mentioned that lots of science graduates end-up with jobs that aren't either research or teaching - for example, IT/computing, finance, engineering, finance, banking, actuarial and so on. I remember reading in somewhere that for economic analysis positions people with maths degrees are preferred over those with economic degrees. (Not surprising - I've friends who studied economics at one of the best universities in the world and yet can't do basic maths. No wonder the economy crashed!) Journalism: Chances are you might NOT be next Rageh Omar and if you think you have high chances of breaking in this industry go for it and you will either make it or become a PR office worker.... It should also be mentioned that people who become successful in Journalism have usually studied something else other than Journalism. For example, Rageh studied Modern History. If you look into the profiles of the editors of British newspapers you will probably find that none of them studied Journalism. The chances are they studied History or English or something similar. I bet even the editor of the Daily Mail didn't study Journalism! It can't even serve as a path-way to the career that it was supposed to lead to.

What you've mentioned is not enough for anyone to make a decent suggestion. I don't think the fact that you like travelling, for example, has any meaningful bearing on what you should study at university. Stuff like academic subjects that you enjoy and are good at should play a significant role. Pick a decent subject that you like and reckon you will enjoy studying for three/four years. In my experience, choosing a degree course solely as means to a certain job or because of parental push usually ends up in regret.

It probably just gives a little nudge over the edge. Normal people behave normally even when they are drunk or at least remain to occupy a shaded point in the normality plane.
  15. Somalia;763647 wrote: But they didn't do the act cause they were Muslim, they did it because they were drunk. No-one claims they did it because of their faith. However, given that their faith-based excuse apparently served as a significant part of their disagreeable sentence, I don't think you have a valid point against the paper in mentioning their faith/religion (not that I'm a fan).
  16. Somalia;763597 wrote: Ok then, what does their Muslim faith have to do with this? Their (accepted) excuse was that 'they weren't used to drinking because they're Muslims'. The weather was horrible the people were rude and that hideous accent I had to tolerate for two months, Lord had mercy on me for I survived. Too much racial tension, I managed to spot one indhayar, and she was on big brother . Zilch Indhayaris around, what was up with that? I don't blame these women, multiculturalism failed in Britain. That's really not true. It's a truth universally acknowledged, to use an Austenian phrase, that English people tend to be extremely polite. Remember, the people whose rantings on public transport has been posted all over the place are outliers. Most English people I came across in my entire life were kind and a delight to talk to. It's bit rude of you to describe the accent as 'hideous'. You also seem to be complaining about the weather and not seeing many oriental people during your stay in here. That's quite bizarre, to be honest.
