What we need is not the white mans forms of freedoms curved in stone, but rather directions, boundries and limits to those freedoms he naturally posseses. NONSENSE. SOL is not alone in still restricting free speech on the Internet. in SOL, we must be free to express ourselves on the Internet, so as to ensure that SOLers, have the access in expressing alternative views and perspectives, however crude and that the browsing public has the opportunity to make informed decisions based on the ideas being deliberated.

Xisbiga Danab where you'll advocate for the youth and their rights in the society, i reckon you'd do a great job xoogana dhac-dhac yar na waad heli. Heck you even got a chance to be the first Jesus mo president in SL. Inaar fadhiga ka kac i believe in you. a famous story my good friend Hashi told me.......... there are two students, a Somali and the other Filipino. both studied together in the US during 1980s. they both represented the brightest for each country. few years later, the Filipino invites the Somali to Manilla, in the hope of impressing his friend with his new found success and position in society. several years later, the somali extends a warm invite to his friend. the Filipino is in awe of the Somali’s success. he probes and asks questions. the Somali gladly tells his friend the source of his lavish and successful life. he takes the Filipino outside to one of the mansion’s veranda and tells him ' you see that road?' the Filipino responds 'what road?' LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOL. kills me everytime! classic stuff. the morale of the story is ‘waxna cun, waxna qabo’ somaha? but in the SL Republic, this is unlikely and all they do is eat without planning for what tomorrow brings! caal kuli xaal, thanks but no thanks, inaar.
  9. A dour westernised Iranian, who seems to be questioning the value of living, is riding around Tehran looking for someone to help him kill himself. It might be a big let down if you were expecting to see this fable come to a necessary resolution, but the film ends rather abruptly and it allows you to come to your own conclusion about what the story means. It is a film that gets better as you step away from it and realise how much intellectual weight there actually was in the telling of its austere story. It is vividly shot with a cast made up of mostly non-professional actors. The director, Abbas Kiarostami, who many film critics consider to be one of the greatest living film directors, is known for his use of the long shot. He uses it to pan the harsh mountainous vistas and the faces of those itinerant Iranians who are seen through the eyes of a forlorn and, at times, loquacious, middle-aged driver of a luxurious Land Rover, Mr. Badii. Taste of Cherry is an emotionally complex meditation on life and death. 10/10. Excellent.

SOL is dangerously on the verge of collapsing, if such measures are not repealed immediately. i wouldn't be wrong in predicating its DOWNFALL very soon. i don't understand why 'THEY' are being crude in restricting such fundamental freedoms. we have gone BACK to the dark days of tyranny, once more. these measures are not really impressing anyone! ee sida uula soco ADMINoow iyo jajuusintaa ku magac dheere MODs-ka.......:mad::mad::mad:

Better stop dreaming of the quiet life 'Cause it's the one we'll never know And quit running for that runaway bus 'Cause those rosy days are few And stop apologizing for the things you've never done 'Cause time is short and life is cruel but it's up to us to change This town called Hargeisa Struggle after struggle, year after year The atmosphere's a fine blend of ice I'm almost stone cold dead In a town called HAG, ooh yeah

  16. please don't misconstrue my views as those belonging to the Anti-SL camp. i'm a firm believer of SL but i'm merely saying.....it's different here on the ground. the reality is so much better, dee. looking our affairs through a rose-tinted view only produces.... the romanticising of clan entities, of division and antagonism. waxas waa laga ficanyahay. its astonishing how deprave some people are with their meandering thoughts and ideas of what actually constitutes 'home', 'belonging' and 'ethnic spaces', ma istidhi?

  23. my poignant SL story. i've been on a ''benevolent mission'' and even that's stretching it far, in all honesty. i think many of you have been away from the homeland for a long time. the situation on the ground is not as perceived by those with lofty diaspora aspirations of perhaps returning one day. i made a conscious decision to return home. i was ''broken'' and returned with the view of cleansing my ''hybrid-somali-from-a-distince westerner identity'' of any lingering vestiges of ''western values'' and more importantly of any western cultural norms. my aim was to create a singular and indeed complete personal identity. i was deluded and felt British dee. in hindsight, it was also my protected upbringing that misled me about the harsh realities of life. i believed in this potent mantra of democracy, multiculturalism and human rights before denouncing the WEST forever. for the next year or so, i begun a process of self-evaluation, of change, of finding purpose and belonging. i did that by coming here. my coming to somaliland trip was very much low-key, you see. i was a popular and rather active in diaspora-based pro-Somaliland events/lecture circuits but soon realise the 'group' i was cahooting with, were pathetic, khat-addled-Somalilanders-from-a-distance and in name ony. they spent their entire time on exchanging and repackaging the latest somaliland news and information, occasionally adding their own version of events to the latest developments. these men thought themselves the pioneers and protectors of 'Somaliland' in the diaspora. the misinformation and hyperbole were an attempt to manipulate the masses of patriotic Somalilanders in the qurbo-ha with the view of creating an unshakeable sense of nationhood and somalilandnimo. they'd often re-tell their dramatic stories of conquest and liberation and i was in that world. i was attentive and foolishly followed these lies in the hope that it would firmly solidify my shaky belief and weak sense of being. I was a dedicated follower in these cult circles and was hailed as the next big thing – a new form of somalilander from the qurbaha but with the lingo and ideology of cult leaders. but still, i yearned for more than mere stories and tales of biblical proportions. i came here and saw my land and realised the evil rubble-rousers and instigators, were so detached from reality and lived in a bubble, a bubble of illusory dreams and nightmare induced fallacies. for the last 4 years, i've been working on grass roots, organic development, development dictated by us and not them with conscious effort to rebuild the broken social fabric of this land. the people of this land don't need the usual delusional nonsense peddled by fake politicians like 'international recognition'' and other such fallacies. i feel, they need to understand the importance of sacred social values of 'trust', confidence in their own being', deference, trust in social institutions and authority. from the very outset, i felt, through the various research and papers, i wrote on these matters that crucial societal rehabilitation efforts were being ignored and considered something peripheral that the somali customs, norms and values can wholly solve. I realised that through a grass-roots, bottoms-up and an organically Somali approach, I was more than capable of developing new methods, ideas and thinking that may signal a way forward. and i feel i've achieved those aims in their entirety by blogging on SOL and 'exoticisting' my mad exploits for all to see, in the hope they may confer me with accolades, sharaf points and ever lasting success. LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOL.
