^^Those days are over. Dubai is not Doha or Abu Dhabi even. You have to work the same hours as you would in London unless your a national where work is merely an *option*. Oman was better. I would got in at 9am, read the papers, surf, punch a few things into excel, write a letter/fax, send it then go home by 2.30pm and sleep. I dont mind the tax/national insurance/council tax free EXPAT salary though

Police arrest Mourinho in pet dog row Staff and agencies Wednesday May 16, 2007 Guardian Unlimited The Chelsea football manager, Jose Mourinho, has been arrested and cautioned after an argument with police over his dog. The 44-year-old was held late yesterday after an animal health official and two police officers went to his London home to remove his Yorkshire terrier, the Sun newspaper reported. The paper said the official wanted to quarantine the dog, believing it had been taken abroad, then brought back to Britain, without jabs. Mourinho received a caution for obstructing police. A Scotland Yard spokesman said officers went to a central London address at 7.45pm with an officer from the Animal Health and Welfare Service. "A 44-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of obstructing police and was taken to a west London police station," he said. "He subsequently received a caution for obstructing police." Scotland Yard said the dog was to be seized for alleged offences under the Animal Health Act 1981 and the Rabies Order 1974. The spokesman said officers talked to the dog's owners about its removal from the address. Dogs that have not been registered for the government's pet travel scheme must spend six months in an approved quarantine centre, at the owner's expense, when entering the UK. To bring an animal into Britain under the scheme, commonly known as the pet passport, the animal must be microchipped, have its blood tested and be vaccinated against rabies and ticks. There must be a period of six months between the blood test and the animal being brought or returned to the UK, according to the Department for Environment Food and Rural Affairs. Animals can only be brought into the country on certain carriers through approved routes. Only Heathrow, Gatwick and Manchester airports qualify as approved routes for scheduled air services from Portugal, Mourinho's home country. Among smaller airports used by chartered jets, only Biggin Hill in Kent qualifies as an approved entry point for animals arriving from Portugal. A Biggin Hill airport spokeswoman said many "extremely rich" people wanted to travel with their pets but they had to use chartered airlines as animals could not be brought into the country in private planes. The Sun reported that Mourinho was at Chelsea's player of the year awards when his wife, Tami, telephoned to tell him the dog was being taken away. Mourinho arrived home at 9pm and the newspaper said he bundled the dog away from police. The dog was understood to be on the loose last night and the Sun asked readers to contact its news desk if they had "seen Jose's dog". Mourinho left his central London home this morning without making any comment to waiting reporters. http://football.guardian.co.uk/News_Story/0,,2080623,00.html

Dubai-bound ship survives pirate attack off Somalia AP Kuala Lumpur: Pirates fired grenade launchers and machine guns at a cargo ship in the Indian Ocean far off the coast of Somalia, sparking concerns that key shipping routes are threatened, a Malaysia-based maritime watchdog said yesterday. The Qatar-flagged cargo ship, Ibn Younus, managed to escape during an hour-long chase as it headed from Durban in South Africa to Jebel Ali in Dubai after it was attacked on Monday, said Noel Choong, head of the International Maritime Bureau's piracy reporting centre in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. Choong said piracy was on the rise again in Somalia with Monday's attack the fifth since April. Three men in a speed boat, armed with machine guns and grenade launchers, approached the ship and ordered it to stop, he said. "They started firing with machine guns toward the bridge of the ship. The emergency alarm was raised and the ship took measures to prevent the pirates from boarding," Choong said. "The pirates then opened fire with the grenade launcher and successfully hit the crew's cabins, causing severe damage," he said. Choong said the ship took a zigzag course to evade the pirates and managed to escape. The ship's crew was safe and nobody was injured. The attack - Somalia's seventh at sea so far this year - occurred 180 nautical miles off the coast, compared to previous raids that took place close to the shoreline, Choong said. http://www.gulfnews.com/region/Somalia/10125654.html

Peacenow With all due respect I think your focusing on the wrong issues. As I mentioned before, Somalia failures is due to not following Islam and not because of it. Wearing a suit in Milan and wearing one in Dubai instead of blue-collar jobs mean the same thing. Opportunity, education, determination etc and has nothing to do with feeling sorry for one’s self whilst the other strives. But you are right in one sense. Example being Employment laws. In Muslim countries employment law is very unclear and tends to favour the national whereas in Europe it is written in stone for all to see and nothing is compromised. Such things, the practice of these laws, should be adopted.

Somaliland Officials Involved In Secret Talks On Reunification With Somalia Nairobi/Mogadishu, May 12, 2007 (Al-Khaleej & SL Times) - Somaliland officials have been involved in secret talks aimed at exploring the possibility of re-unification with Somalia, the daily Arabic newspaper Al-Khaleej disclosed on Thursday. According to Al-Khaleej which is based in the United Arab Emirates, the talks are being sponsored by Ethiopian and American diplomats in an attempt to convince Somaliland to accept re-joining Somalia under new favorable terms to be guaranteed by both Addis Ababa and Washington. "Talks involving Somaliland leaders and Ethiopian and American officials are under way to discuss the details of a plan for re-unification of Somaliland with other regions of Somalia," Al-Khaleej said. According to sources close to the discussions, Somaliland has been offered a strong commitment by the two sponsoring nations to guarantee the terms of any deal reached on the re-unification issue, Al-Khaleej added. Somaliland's Foreign Minister, Abdillahi Mohamed Duale, is currently in Addis Ababa. He left Hargeysa about a month ago to an undisclosed destination. The Somaliland government has placed a news blackout on Mr. Duale's whereabouts. In March, the Minister of Finance, Awil Ali Duale left for Nairobi, Kenya. There was no official statement on the purpose of Awil's trip to Kenya. The minister of Finance returned to Hargeysa in mid April.
