  1. Heh. Now did the law criminalise him or did he crimalise himself? Ban the stuff world wide
  2. Archdemos, I’m not sure about the culture thing. Back home when ordering or requesting something often words such as ‘saxib’ ‘walaal’ ‘inadeer’ ‘adeer’ etc are used. Endearing words which is akin to your ps and qs in the west. Abu Salman, It’s the committee system we use in the west where the mosques are not run by an authority like a ministry of awqhaaf/religious affairs. No regulation of who is adequately qualified to be an Imam etc etc. Couple with pride and arrogance then you’re bound to get scuffles. On a separate note, when I’m travelling up there I tend to leave here on a Friday afternoon because I know I will more likely benefit more from hearing a sermon here as opposed to hearing one in the UK where the message tends to unclear and confusing in many mosques. Maybe something can be communicated to the Shiekhs on the Somali TV channels about the issue of manners. Juxa, A sense of entitlement perhaps? An attitude of acting as one pleases because he/she stands to gain? Ps what were those lessons you mentioned?
  3. ^I don't get to see the goings on in mosques because I haven't been there for a while but I hear things can get a bit out of hand at times (I avoid going to Somali run Mosques to be honest). The last one I went to I communicated to the Imam to stop giving history lessons (we already believe) and talk about good manners and improving Iman. Do some Somalis think manners isn't for them? Do they even realise they're behaviour is bad?
  4. ^war tag you want me to wait for that email until 2013?
  5. No resolutions for me. Well apart from the usual get fitter etc
  6. Abtigiis, I understand that education plays big part here. Those miyiga jooga have ignorance to blame as they’re only interacting with close family and friends and will act according to what they see and hear (they don’t know any better). Those in the cities have no excuse even though they’re only mimicking their environments. Kenyan Somalis are very polite (at least those who I know and met). Same with reer Djibouti (apart from their airport staff). But, generally speaking, the rudeness I come across is embarrassing. I’m talking about adults here not kids or teenagers or even adolescents. Dad waaween oo wax kala garanaaya are acting like this. What perplexes me is why someone who has lived in the west chooses to act in such a way here in the Gulf instead of doing what he does in the west. Is it because he knows he will get a completely different response from an Indian Café owner in West London? Ma masaakiintuu ku cawaandidooda? Che, you cannot use the excuses of post war behaviour here. These people have been living in peace in qurbaha for a long time. JB, good example. Couldn’t she say “could you please start the meeting”? Wamaxay buuqu?
  7. The more I observe Somalis interacting with other people the more I wonder where on earth they (Somalis) get their manners. We have a number of Somalis who believe speaking to others in a rude manner is ok. They fail to distinguish the difference between camaraderie amongst Somalis (which may have elements of a rude/lewd language/posture and tone) and the universal politeness towards people in general (Somalis and others). I have seen such behaviour wherever I happen to come across Somalis. More so recently and unfortunately I even saw this during Hajj. Things came to a head yesterday. I was amongst many Somalis (a rarity for me) enjoying a cuppa in the afternoon sun in Al Ras, Dubai (where many Somalis frequent, live and do business). An old man, old enough to be my grandfather decided to order another cup of tea. The way he did it was just so sad and so rude towards the Indian shop keeper who was patient enough to let us just sit there even after we had finished our teas, fruit salads and ice creams. “Oi warya, you, hindi, you, tea, now, now” The Indians guy’s face just said it all. I was ashamed to be sat there when this happened. Other people looked our way. I decided to lambast him and said “war dee ninka si fiican ula hadal, waa ku side” to which I just got a blank look. I was hoping for more. I was ready for a fight (in the linguistic sense). I was later told that such rudeness towards coffee shop owners in that area is more common among the Somali wayfarers. Those from the west and especially those from the UK. Where does this seemingly inherent rudeness among, from my general observations alone, the older generation stem from?
  8. Erm, there is still a day to go JB:D
  9. Just realised thats that hyped kid Neymar. Have you seen the size of Ronaldo's calves?
  10. I remember making such a suggestion (that the ONLF should look to buy some time with some sort of agreement then do things through politics) and A&T biting my typing fingers off. Maxaa hada is badaley saxib?
  11. ^He is out for 1 game. The remaining 8 games will be appealed. NGONGE;768669 wrote: ^^ The stats say that the chances we create and the conversion rate are not the same (with and without Carroll). Why are we hitting the post all the time? Why do opposition keepers save our shots all the time? Surely it is not becuase of Carroll, the man does not play in every game. But in your eyes, when others miss it's bad luck and god knows what but when Carroll misses it's lack of intelligence or movement (how can he lack both when he was there to miss those chances in the first place?). I am telling you that our game is far too structured and that's why our chances are too hurried and forced (i.e. saved, hit the bar or shot over the bar). If Adam was more subtle in his passing Carroll, Suarez and the others would have scored a ton by now. Football is about being a split second faster than your opponents and managing to confuse them and make space for your attackers. Wax fahan. Are your serious? Our chances have been hurried half chances because the way we play is too structured? Where do you get that from saxib? We have been created chances. Many chances. Clear cut chances. The problem isn't with how we play or that the chances have been half chances leaving hurried shots and headers. The problem is down to finishing and finishing alone. Carroll is as guilty as Suarez, Maxi, Downing, Hendo and Adam. They're all equally to blame. Andy Carroll has another problem the other strikers don't have. That is the problem of fundamentals. His passing has been off. His hold up play has been weak (goes down easily). His movement off the ball is terrible. He is always hanging at the back post rather than getting infront of the defender to win the header (meaning the defender gets to it first most of the time). Anticipating and taking a gamble with where the ball will be is as important as the cross itself. Yes the service to him hasn't been great but neither has his movement when the service has been good he has more often than not failed to get on the end of it. He falls asleep too often. Naga daa dee xaaris
  12. Not only do the stats contradicts what you're saying you're contradicting yourself We have created plenty of clear cut chances but have not scored enough of them. It doesn't matter how methodical or not the chances came about, they were clear cut chances you badow!
  13. Driven passed this beautiful mosque so many times. I really must stop by soon while the weather is good. The mosque is open during the day to tourists/non muslims which is an opportunity for dawa. You would be surprised by the number of new muslims as a result. Is it too big? Probably.
  14. I will watch the fireworks over Burj Khalifa from the comfort of my balcony. Then go to bed
  15. Tis the weekend. New Years weekend at that. I haven't watched a yearly review for years. Will have to for 2011.
  16. I will and those stats do contradict your post. Carroll for Liverpool, has been occupying oppostion defenders and keeping them busy by simply appearing in the box. However, none of his team mates (apart from Suarez) ever burst into the box or run into spaces to confuse the opposition defences. Liverpool's style of play is mechanical and predictable (though very good at times). It is why we create all those endless chances, but are these chances clear cut ones? Actually, for the most part, they are not. They are hurried shots or lucky bounces due to defenders mistakes. So why does Carroll look bad, you ask? Well, I personally don't think he does. I believe him to be a very good player who has been playing well but not scoring. Those that follow the ball would beg to differ and I understand where they're coming from. But I also would like them to understand how football works. Riena passes the ball to Agger. Agger passes it to Adam. Adam passes it to Enrique. Enrique gives it back to Adam. Adam passes it to Downing. Downing takes his time before crossing the ball into the box where only Suarez & Carroll are trying to compete with four defendrs and the keeper. The ball gets kicked away! Notice a problem? See why Carroll can't do it? Again, those that follow the ball argue that Carroll does not move! How does he not move when more often than not Suarez is the furthest player forward when an attack starts yet Carroll is found in the box when an attack is repelled? How does he not move when he is almost always in the box when crosses come in? I mean have you not heard of OFFSIDE? The man does not sit in that box waiting for the ball to return, you know (this is not park football) What you're saying here that he or the other strikers have not been presented with goal scoring chances. The stats and analysis say different. Our build up play has been generally good (see how easy we got through City?). Its the finishing. With Carrol its also the movement, passing and anticipating. Wax la kaalay ninyow bahasha maa ciyaari jirin'e. Heard you was good keeper though
  17. ^Dee ha. You're sounding more like the English journeys I added a bit and posted a couple of links.
  18. What a load of tosh. The chances are there. They are being created. The problem is no one is scoring them. http://www.eplindex.com/measuring-liverpool-chance-conversion-concerns/ http://www.eplindex.com/microcosm-liverpool-11-blackburn/ Carroll is useless doing most things. Torres just needs games.
  19. ^You're happy to be back at work? Thats a first Suarez has been banned for the Newcastle game. A blessing in disguise as Carroll will play with a bit more freedom. Suarez get in his way at times (they can't play together).
  20. ^He was having a go at me for disagreeing with his take on the Liverpool game. The man watches a completely different game EVERY TIME. Tried to get him on whatapp but he won't. Its free.
