N/AA I believe so. Mistake on my part now amended. Amend your quote please.

^^^I see. Afgaranwaa baayacmushtareed! Very plausible. At the same time, other explanations might seem plausible too. We'll see what the fuss is all about later. Emperor; Maxaad sheegtey? Sibuu hadalkaagu isugu yara yaacsan yahaye hadalka caddee. What has been 'done' and who do you mean to ask 'why do you do that'? Are you talking to N/AA or me?

^^So N/AA, Simbanews is close to the truth?
-
^^Simba is the first of the 'second wave of reporting' in this case. For that purpose, it doesn't have to be a Puntlander site. PS: They can report it. They can even make up stories. Or even better they can report exact news as it has happened on the ground. The crucial thing is what they report must be confirmed by the other side of the story. If that doesn't happen, it remains speculative reporting.
-
Emperor, Simba is a late addition. I remember visiting it and not finding anything there. What you would read from here on is the 'picking on the first source and circulating it'. Dabshid, Only Puntlander websites are circulating this news of war. No other website is doing so. Lol, I can't tell you why! It beats me .

Monday, April 30, 2007 NAIROBI, 30 April 2007 (IRIN) - An outbreak of cholera and acute watery diarrhoea is adding to the dire humanitarian conditions endured by the homeless in camps around the Somali capital, Mogadishu, medical sources said on Monday. Hundreds of thousands of civilians have been displaced by three months of heavy fighting in the city. "We have had 1,111 cases of cholera in our camp alone," said Hawa Abdi, a doctor, whose 26-hectare compound, 20km south of Mogadishu, has been turned into a camp for displaced people. She said most of the patients were being cared for under trees. The mortality rate was still low, with only 15 deaths since the outbreak in March, she said. However, the displaced were getting weaker, she added, and diseases were likely to spread due to overcrowding and lack of proper sanitation facilities, and claim more lives. "If conditions do not improve soon, it [the mortality rate] will most certainly go much higher," said Abdi. She said she was receiving reports on deteriorating health conditions from other camps where the displaced from Mogadishu have assembled. "I suspect the problem is related to the water people are drinking and the total lack of sanitation in the camps," she added. In a report last week, the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) said the number of cholera/acute watery diarrhoea cases in southern and central Somalia since 1 January was estimated at more than 17,000, with 600 deaths. The report said the cases were primarily concentrated in Mogadishu and the Lower Shabelle region, where most of the displaced went. "With continuing displacement and the onset of the Gu [long] rains, the number of cases is expected to continue to rise," OCHA warned. Abdi said her facility, which was receiving about 30 patients per day, was running out of such basic supplies as oral rehydration salts. "We are getting more and more people by the day and the supplies we have are not going to last very long." The camp's medical team, all volunteers, was "working day and night to contain the situation", she added, appealing for help both for her staff and for the displaced. Food, clean water, shelter material and medicines were all needed. An estimated 365,000 people fled Mogadishu between 1 February and 27 April. "This figure represents almost a third of the city's estimated population," stated the OCHA report. Meanwhile, calm is reportedly returning to Mogadishu after combined Ethiopian and government troops gained control of the city from rival militias. "There has been no gunfire since Friday," said a local journalist. Widespread looting in the city at the weekend had also been brought under control. "The looting was at its worst on Friday and Saturday, but now everything is returning to normal with businesses reopening," he added. The government appointed two former warlords to senior government positions. Muhammad Umar Habeb, better know as Muhammad Dhere, was appointed mayor of Mogadishu, while Abdi Hassan Qeybdid was named national police chief. Both men were members of a coalition of warlords, which, in June 2006, was chased out of the city by the Union of Islamic Courts, in turn defeated by the combined Ethiopian and Somali government forces in late December. ah/mw Source: IRIN, April 30, 2007

^Elysian, thanks alot. Darn, didn't even remember tomorrow is May Day. I am leaving London for the countryside, Insha-Allah. Any volunteers? We might try these International organisations to help us along the way. They seem to have the necessary expertise/resources to get messages across effectively. Elysian, there are actually Christian pro-peace orgs in London who would be more than willing to lend a loud voice. Not a bad idea using all pro-peace organisations/institutions and individuals' help. Hey, 'keep up the good work' helps it for now. Now tell me about Sweden and what you are doing/have done so far in the Somalia Campaign . That is if I am not too inquisitive . PS: MODERATOR CAN YOU PLEASE MOVE THIS TOPIC TO THE GENERAL SECTION.

^^ Yes, Xanthus. Adam Sims sure comes across as a very nice and understanding fellow. His reply very much sounds human and that is an encouraging thing in a big coorperation like the BBC. Unlike that woman who replied to you, who sounded really mechanical in some sense, Adam Sims is indeed a good job. Anajuwa, as Xanthus suggested, give us a hand would you?

This is the reply I got from the BBC. ---- Dear Mr ....... Thank you for your e-mail regarding BBC News. I understand you are unhappy with the BBC's coverage of the current situation in Somalia. The choice of news stories to report in our programmes is frequently very difficult. Editorial staff always have more news reports than can be fitted into the time available. Their choice has to be selective and no matter how carefully such decisions are made, they are always aware that some people may disagree with them. The BBC News website is consistently updates with information from around the globe which you may find of interest: http://news.bbc.co.uk Nevertheless, please be assured I have registered your comments regarding this issue and have made them available to the BBC News team and the senior BBC management. Feedback of this nature helps us when making decisions about future BBC programmes and your comment will play a part in this process. Thank you again for taking the time to contact us. Xoogsade, brother, Insha-Allah, that is the message we are trying hard to put across. The withdrawal of Ethiopian troops from Mogadishu and Somalia altogether. Xanthus, as always you are very helpful. Insha-Allaah I am taking all your advice on board and appreciate the pointers you've made. If the brother from Islam Channel is helpful to brothers then let me approach him. I also know a number of brothers working with the channel. Insha-Allah Islam Channel should be helpful. It is good to know that you are part of MPACUK, should have known before. Anyway, you are now 'our lady in MPACUK' . Dhucdhuc iyo Dheylo, good to hear you've written to your local MP. I think you should write to your MEPs too. Remember it is the EU that supports the TFG. A decision by them would go along way, I tell you. Thanks again, Sis.

Thank you Jimcaale. The BBC must continue producing this types of reporting. I salute them for their efforts. But they need to do more as 95% of Somalis in Somalia and abroad are dependent on the BBC for news. The report superbly identities what is happening in Mogadishu in the name of 'war on terrorism'. The criminals behind this genocide must be brought to justice. We must start a new thread concerned with pointing out the key criminals in this war and write/visit the necessary and relevant international institutions to make our case. Nomads, provide whatever names of the figures of the TFG you believe to be involved in this carnage. Similarly, Ethiopian and American figures propagating this criminal and illegal invasion must be named and be brought before justice. Where are the lawyers and law students in SOL? Where are all the International/Global studies graduates in SOL as well? Make yourselves present and ready for a campaign to bring these criminals to justice. Thanks again, Jimcaale.

Originally posted by Xanthus: You can also have a self set target similar to the one below to go with your letter: ACTION PLAN 1. Try to obtain a target of 1,000 signatures or as many as you can by say Friday 2. Arrange an appointment to see your MP in your local area by either telephoning their office or emailing them via www.writetothem.com . Tell them that you wish to meet them in their open surgey 3 . Try to insist on face-to-face meeting. However, if this is not possible for whatever reason, make a photocopy of your completed petition sheets and post it to them together with a cover letter. 4. If you meet them, present your petition to them as a measure of how strongly you and your fellow constituents feel on this matter, and ask them for three commitments: What is he going to do, now that he has heard your concerns 5. Chase up your MP until you receive a written response from them. Once you receive a written response, please share the response, then we can measure who supports us and who does not. Good action plan. I am getting ready to get into the business of collecting thousands of signatures from tomorrow. Just preparing the paperwork. Insha-Allah I will also be paying a visit to my local MP. I am also going to write and visit George Galloway, Jon McDonnel (my former MP- shouldn't be hard as I know him in personal)and Jeremy Cobbyn. Additionally, I shall make in contact with cross-party committees and shadow foreign miniters of the conservatives, the Lib-Dems and the Green party. I will also try my best to make contact with 'Independent Diplomat' and 'Chattam House' thinktanks and the Royal African Society based in SOAS university. Pray for me nomads.

A message I sent to MPACUK. Brothers and sisters if you wish to send an e-mail to any Muslim organisation in the UK, you can use my message and simply replace the MPACUK word with the relevant Muslim organisation or Muslim body. Thanks. ----- The news of Muslim lands in flames and Muslim peoples in turmoil is extremely distressing. The bombings of towns and villages in Iraq, Palestine and Afghanistan have gone beyond shock and dismay. The broadcasting of horrific images of Muslim suffering and the proliferation of oppressive foreign policies in Muslim countries is starting to numb the reactive senses of the Muslim mind. Attendant fears seem to have paralyzed the majority of Muslims into slumber. It is the loud and conscientious voices of Muslim individuals and minority organizations (such as MPACKUK) that must wake the Ummah from this debilitating slumber and silence. Cut and run policy on problems we currently face is not a viable alternative. Unless we speak with one voice and face realities in all attentiveness, us in the United Kingdom, or others in Muslim countries, we will remain sitting ducks. Training, awareness and preparedness in defending our rights, is the only path to pursue. Although I greatly sympathize and support the cause of all the Muslim Ummah, I would appreciate if, brothers and sisters in MPACKUK would kindly gauge their attention on what is happening in Mogadishu, Somalia. Currently, nothing short of genocide is being conducted by an American sponsored Ethiopian invasion. Thousands are dead and their bodies are rotting in the streets of the city; hundreds of thousands of civilians have been displaced by an indiscriminate bombing (partly done with the help of an AC130 bomber plane); and the occupying Ethiopian troops have refused any humanitarian assistance to be delivered to over 500,000 refugees, which may precipitate mass starvation, as witnessed in 1993 when 5000 people perished due to hunger. The American sponsored Ethiopian occupation is not allowing Media presence, and arresting local journalists and becoming Radio/Television stations, hence the silent suffering of Muslim brothers and sisters in Somalia. Only Al-Jazeera Television is secretly operating in Mogadishu. However, since its audience in the British public is not as great as the BBC, MPACKUK could help publicize the atrocities committed in Mogadishu in the name of 'war on terrorism'. It is of paramount importance that the British public and all EU citizens are made aware of what is going on in Somalia because the UK government and the EU are partly sponsoring the Ethiopian backed Transitional Federal Government of Somalia. Thank you brothers and sisters at MPAKUK for the great service you are currently providing to British Muslims. May Allah be with you in all of your endeavors, amin.

^ Yes peacenow, the BBC is frustrating really. They don't seem to give a darn about what is happening in Somalia. Even their coverage nowadays seems disdainful and rehearsed to give the impression that nothing serious or important can happen in Somalia and to Somalis. Peacenow, tell me how it goes. Will post responses Insha-Allah. Thanks again for doing what you do. Your efforts are very much appreciated. Keep up the good work.

ThePoint: The case is really not all that complicated. For 30+ years - all assets of the government and people of Somalia were concentrated in Mogadishu. Yup, concentrated and allocated to the section of the society that was 'agreeable' to the clan-based dictatorship. Now, they want it back , with an Ethiopian might to back their claims. As you said, the case is not really complicated. Its more than 21 years of loot replaced by 17 years of loot, which brings us to today's TFG reclaim.

Dear Rt. Hon. Stephen Timms MP As one of your constituents in East Ham, I am writing to inform you of my grave concern at the ever increasing violence in Somalia, which seems conveniently ignored by world leaders and the media. In the name of 'war on terrorism', an American sponsored Ethiopian invasion, which is engaged in indiscriminate shelling of residential areas, is causing the deaths, destruction and displacement of thousands of weak women and children. They have had their civil human rights violated, beaten, killed and chased out of their homes and villages. This is happening with the knowledge of our government and the European Union, which is partly funding Somalia's Transitional Federal Government (TFG). Here is a link to warning given to the EU over war crimes over Somalia aid Therefore, as my democratic representative in the House of Commons, I kindly call on you to, firstly, act and put pressure on our government ask Ethiopia to withdraw its troops from Somalia and thus minimize the genocidal Human Rights violations carried out by Ethiopian troops and the TFG. Also, to pressure the Ethiopian government and the TFG to allow relief organisations the access to deliver much needed foodstuff to the hundreds of thousands displaced. Current Ethiopian and TFG policy to refuse the NGOs to deliver food to those who need it most, may precipitate the 1993 mass starvation in Baidoa, as suggested by The Independent's article ( Somalia facing humanitarian crisis as hundreds of thousands flee capital ). Please bear in mind that this issue affects many of your constituents and speaking on their behalf would be of paramount importance. As you may be aware East Ham is home to many Somali families whose view you represent. I am certain that you would ensure our concerns are expressed through you. Please treat this issue with urgency. I would be eagerly looking forward to hearing from you. Yours Sincerely,

To Whom It May Concern: Insufficient BBC news coverage of Somalia. I am a British Somali with grave concerns over the carnage and destruction that is visited upon my people and country. I am very much in need of information regarding the on-going Ethiopian shelling of my country’s capital city, Mogadishu, Somalia. As resident of the United Kingdom, the BBC Television is my prime source of news on domestic and international issues. Lately, however, and as regards reports concerning the carnage in Mogadishu, the best the BBC Television has done was to treat the plight of my people and country to the news marquee. While thousands of Somalis have been killed in indiscriminate Ethiopian bombing and tens of thousands have fled, the BBC has maintained a restraint, which almost seems meditated, over the airtime spent on informing the public about the reality in Mogadishu. Why is the BBC maintaining such a guarded restraint over what is happening in Mogadishu? Is BBC’s independency to make its own news agenda according to public need no longer applicable in the case of Somalia? Please tell me what action the BBC can take in covering this particular issue. The lack of sufficient reporting significantly reduces the chances of thousands of internally displaced refugees getting humanitarian assistance. Please contact me via ------ Thank you

The TFG and Meles are busy cutting and pasting a special dessertation for Mr Azhari and it should appear in the database very soon . They may even throw in a diploma for Maxamed Kooshin . -
First: I have spoken to several contacts and one of them is a fellow who represents 'Rajo Political Party' www.rajo.org.uk, who has told me that he knows of two upcoming demonstration. One of the demonstration is scheduled to take place on the 19th of May while the other has not yet been scheduled. I didn't know there existed 'Rajo Political Party' but the chap has show a great deal of willingness in a bid to coordinate efforts. This coordinated efforts needs further discussion. Xanthus, you will have to have a say here. Second: I have been able to get the support of a friend who has offered to design all the posters/graphics required by this campaign. Third: I am very hopeful that by tomorrow, I would be in contact with different wide-ranging orgs, bodies and pressure groups that may come in handy. Insha-Allaah, I am hoping Xanthus also has contact details of MCB MPACK (very important - they are very vocal and effective) and Islam Channel. ----- Below is two among the letters I have been sending to various media out lets and local MP.

^^^Start writing young lady . Peacenow, I am working on collecting the relevant think-tanks that we need to target. Most noticably, Chatham House is the most prominent one. This think tank has access to world leaders and top media contacts. I am drafting some letters, Insha-Allah. This is not to forget other equally important think tankers and opinion leaders. Right now, I am trying to get hold of a Somali brother who is also organizing a demo in London. For that reason, I think the time and how to coordinate it would have to wait untill we consult with him and other Somalis organizing demos. Insha-Allah I will update you on how things go. Pray they go well, Insha-Allah.

Ethiopia Finds Itself Ensnared in Somalia Some Observers See Similarities To U.S. in Iraq By Stephanie McCrummen Washington Post Foreign Service Friday, April 27, 2007; A16 ADDIS ABABA, Ethiopia -- Four months after Ethiopian Prime Minister Meles Zenawi declared his own "war on terror" against an Islamic movement in Somalia, Ethiopia remains entangled in a situation that analysts and critics are comparing to the U.S. experience in Iraq. Though Meles proclaimed his military mission accomplished in January, thousands of Ethiopian troops remain in the Somali capital, where they have used attack helicopters, tanks and other heavy weapons in a bloody campaign against insurgents that in recent weeks has killed more than 1,000 people, mostly civilians, and forced half of the city's population to flee. On Thursday, the Ethiopian-backed Somali prime minister, Ali Mohamed Gedi, declared that three weeks of heavy fighting was over, a statement tempered by the mortar blasts that continued to boom in the distance, witnesses said.
