  1. "Serious hard-working men who also work over the weekend? I thought most Somali weddings happen either on Friday evening (I mean night) or Saturday!!" Weekend is the time to rest and regenerate, not time to boogie.
  2. I met him at a bus stop. Honest is the best policy
  3. It is not fun to preach, doncha ya know? Actually many people hate to be preached, cos they dont want to hear. Everyone knows right from wrong and it would be ideal if we all listened to each other and give each other sound naseeha. Although Giving naseeha (advice)is alot easier than taking it.
  4. Originally posted by me: Salam Cambaro, The leadership of Cade Muuse has been very divisive. Ever since Cade Muuse took over the office of president of Puntland, we have seen him allow the occupation of Puntland territories by the Secessionist militia. Cade Muuse hasn't shown the leadership that was expected of him. He has let down the Somali people of Puntland. Me He is askari, aint he? Totally unsuitable to be a leader of an administration as big as Puntland. He should have sticked with being a military man. Originally posted by me: When I compared him with Qanyare, I was talking about the greed and the shady deals he made, only a person of Qanyares or Muuse Suudi's caliber would make deals like that. You may be right there. But in terms of killing and subjugating people, they are not comparable.
  5. Originally posted by J B: MMA and Cambarro's coupling of Atheism and Secularism leave much to be desired in contrast to the simple fact that many religious people are Secularists and absoloutly not Atheists and ofcourse it goes without saying that some Atheists are militant and not Secularists Secularism has tendency that leans towards atheism. Originally posted by J B: As for the Author and the point , I knew that few religious people labor under the mistaken notion that things happen without a reason , and correct as they may be in their own minds, the fruits of natural science based on fatcs through sound reason, based on reality and actuality speak against them. Quite alot of athieists and 'free thinkers' in general appear to be enamoured about their particular belief i.e the fruits of natural science based on 'facts through sound reason'. This isnt really objective. Some of them seem to think they do not have 'a belief' because it is a absence of belief in a God. Obviously the fact that it is a belief seems to escape them. It also spectacularly escapes their notice that just because they call themselves 'free thinkers' it does not mean that they actually form their own thinkers free of any social context or 'contamination'. They imagine that their views are based on 'facts' which can be established by evidence and proof, they hardly ever question their own methodologies if they do, only superficially. And to cap it all they have this ridiculous attept at presenting themselves as the 'most knowing', most skeptical about religions', and as if they ask the most critical and relevant questions of religions'. Evidence is emphasised strongly but we first have to establish that their way of finding and defining evidence (methodology), is actually free from any beliefs and assumptions and is totally 'objective', however we find that their whole methodology is subjective and only given authority on account of the beliefs I posted above. Originally posted by J B: what i diden't know however was that beeing intellectually dishonest was a religiously justifieable act, becouse the Author seems to be under the impression that his REASON of penning down these unsubstantiated lines against Rationality and Science is not a Reason but a devine revelation of sort, but it soley stands to reason that even (s)he is unsuccessfully trying to reason that Rationality and Science are Lame therefore Secularism is another Lame, dogmatic religion. Rationality and Science is not really exlusive to Secularism JB. Science is a method, mainly suited to quantative methods, it is blind to qualitative factors. Its findings are limited by its methods. It may work in particular areas, and may find the truth, but it certainly does not tell us truths in everything and it should stay out of questions and areas in which its methods are blind. Science is a double edged sword it reveals just as much as it hides....it takes and creates its own a path, and ignores others. Science has a role and religion has a role, both can co-exists if they remain within their bounderies and people know the limitations.
  6. Nice pictures Duke. Is this Airport aan ka degi doono? The place is too sunny.
  7. Salaam It is not really appropriate picking up a potential partners at a partner. You really dont a husband who likes to hang about parties..do you? Wedding used to be a place where i avoid men. I'd like to think that a respectbale man would have been in bed by that time in order to get up for work ealry in the morning. Suffice to say I was after a serious hard-working man
  8. Salaam Me This is a worrying development but one that was coming. It suggests hint of nervousness within the Puntland administration. To sustain and consolidate power this administration is using a tried and tested totalitarian methods. It is about time Puntalanders were bold enough to stand up to them and voice any opposition to their policies. One thing i would disagree with you ME: Cadde Muse is not in the same league as Qanyare and the like. At least not yet. About Puntland becoming a monarchy, that is just load of balloney. Not likely.
  9. Salaam The orginal post outlines the intolerance of Secularism. In the UK, even though they pride themselves in being a secular country (despite the head of state also being the head of church), their intolerance is for all to see. We are being told time and time again that we live in a secular society, one which fosters understanding and respect for other peoples beliefs and faiths! Actions however do speak louder than words. Only few weeks ago British govt was proposing to force all religious schools to enroll at least 25% of its students from among people who do not share their faith. Along these same lines, a Muslim teacher who refused to remove her veil during class was alleged to be "denying the right of children to a full education." Another recently reported case, the European Court on Human Rights decided that Germany did not violate the rights of parents who chose to educate their children at home in order to foster their Christian identity. The court baldly asserted that the homeschooling parents were violating their children's "right" not to be educated in their religious upbringing because the government considered it too isolated. These incidents clearly illustrate that secularism deals with religious diversity not necessarily by tolerance, but by squelching minorities, including Christianity or any non-secularist group. Secularism is not the absence of dogma. It will not tolerate a competing worldview, especially one based on religion, because it considers faith assertions to be per se illegitimate for public policy. Having discarded God, secularismn divinism is either the state or the individual (with the individual's rights defined solely by the state, hence claims that children have a "right" to whatever the state wants). Secularism is uncritically dogmatic and doesn't even realise it. The so-called "seperation of church and state" can only result in the marginalisation and gradual but steady suppression of religion.
  10. There is a war between Atheist secularists and religions. The secular atheists want a particular world, and have devised their own destrcutive laws and systems which plunder from the rest of the world. Atheists and secularists have for the past 200 years gain dominance around the world, they have imposed their plundering economic system which has resulted in the enslavement of billions. Many people earn $2 a week, or even a month, while a handful of people own 95% of global resources....such plunder is inhumane and designed to rob and enslave the many. Deadly secularism has given rise to wave after wave of genocide and destruction, inter ethnic conflict, international conflict, racial conflict, nationalist conflict etc. etc., some of the most destaructive weapons ever invented, a system which leads to the destruction of the air, oceans and other life support systems with no end in sight to satiating the greedy secular materialists. Nowadays being secular is validated and given rewards. I mean in a work situation say to your work mates you are going to the pub later and everyone will join you, say you are going for prayers and you will get some odd looks.
  11. Salaam I can only see myself growing old with a Somali.
  12. Anyone read this book? The Peruvian economist Hernando De Soto notes: "The cities of the Third World and the former communist countries are teeming with entrepreneurs. You cannot walk through a Middle Eastern market, hike up to a Latin American village, or climb into a taxicab in Moscow without someone trying to make a deal with you. The inhabitants of these countries possess talent, enthusiasm, and an astonishing ability to wring profit out of practically nothing." He claims that it's possible to keep such people down only if governments dedicate themselves to the pursuit of really bad policies for decades at a time. In essence his assertions are that bad policies can ensure poverty, good policies spark wealth creation. He maintains that kleptocrats and egalitarians want to keep their countries poor by: 1- discouraging investment i.e nationalisation of all major Industries. 2- printing paper money (a problem we have in Somalia). Hyperinflation is one of the easiest and most popular ways to dismantle an economy. The second point i have major problem with: money creation by an entity (not properly formed govt) which is basicly free to print, create as much as or as little as it like, based on one weak currency which everyone poor is forced to accept ...is armed robbery. and other rotten policies. I am in 2 minds over this. On one hand, i can see the attraction of capitalism, on the other hand, i am not too sure.
  13. Nigeria gets new Islamic leader The late sultan was widely revered for his peace efforts A new Sultan of Sokoto, the spiritual leader of Nigeria's 70m Muslims, has been announced. He is Colonel Sada Abubakar,53, brother of Sultan Mohammadu Maccido, who was killed in a plane crash on Sunday, along with 95 others. Col Abubakar had been serving as Nigeria's military attache to Pakistan. Like all sultans, Col Abubakar is descended from Uthman Dan Fodio, who led a 19th Century jihad to spread Islam across northern Nigeria. I want to congratulate the state government for choosing a consensus sultan Muhammadu Bello, trader The BBC's Ardo Abdullah Hazzad in the northern city of Sokoto, says that thousands of people have gathered to celebrate the appointment outside the imposing sultan's palace. Easy-going Col Abubakar is to greet the crowds after earlier going to thank Sokoto State Governor Attahiru Bafarawa for naming him as the 20th sultan. Col Abubakar was chosen by a group of traditional rulers, known as kingmakers, who passed a shortlist of three to Mr Bafarawa for the final decision. "May he continue where the late sultan stopped," trader Muhammadu Bello told Reuters news agency. "I want to congratulate the state government for choosing a consensus sultan." Col Abubakar, who has also served with West Africa's peacekeeping force in Sierra Leone, was top of the list and so the governor was expected to select him. He is described as being relaxed and easy-going. The Sokoto Caliphate founded by Dan Fodio became one of the largest pre-colonial states in Africa. The sultan's role includes announcing the start and the end of the Muslim holy month of Ramadan in Nigeria. The late sultan was widely respected for trying to ease tensions between Nigeria's Muslim and Christians communities, which occasionally spill over into sectarian violence. His son and grandson were also killed when a Boeing 737 flight operated by ADC airlines crashed just after take-off from the capital, Abuja, on its way to Sokoto. Nigeria held three days of national mourning and President Olusegun Obasanjo went to Sokoto to pay his respects. It was the third major Nigeria plane crash in just over a year. ADC's licence has been suspended. http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/world/africa/6109118.stm Maybe Somalia would benefit if we had someone of similar role.
  14. "Activism will only succeed when it remembers that a misplaced rigorism is less dangerous than an improper liberalism." ---Shaykh Abdal Hakim Murad. It is safer to be stricter about things that you don't have a need to be strict over, than to introduce concepts of change where there is no need of change. Murad is advising not to consider all the evils that have occured to the Muslim community and the world as bigger than they actually are. This is what liberal muslims are concentrating on. Nitpicking what the muslims do without having deeper knowledge of Islam. Those liberal muslims may see problems arising within the muslim communities and they may overestimate the problem to the point that they react with complete liberalism (free-thinking) and abandon traditional thoughts completely. It is bit late here and maybe this maynot be relevant at all. But it is good to share
  15. Somalipride "They definitely do, like I’ve been saying for a long time. The people living there don't have the luxuries that we living abroad do. They need to start generating jobs and exploring their resources. Extracting the oil is another story, but they can't just keep waiting and waiting." If only this was the case. Surely you cant be that naive. History shows that they are lucky if the average somali sees a penny of that money. Odeyaasha magaalada will line their pocket. This is happening all over Africa. When there is no proper regulations in place, corruption is rife with no process of accountability and transparency, average Cali on the street wont get a penny.
  16. This article could explain a little better. http://articles.moneycentral.msn.com/Investing/JubaksJournal/TheFinancialTrapFacingTheUSChina.aspx
  17. "Now if I may rebound the question to you, who killed the swedish journalist? Isnt that a question whose answer should be provided by the ICU since it was their rally" Juje Nice of you to backtrack there. Now you are asking the question. Let me remind you of what you said earlier: "To prove that they could damage the whole thing they made their mark in killing a foreign journalist in broad daylght infront of the executive committe in a rally orgainsed by the ICU.That was the killing of the Swedish journalist for Channel four." If i am not mistaken, above is an accusation and slandering perhaps? Can you see the difference? "Evidence as you say, who should provide me or the maxakamiin" So since neither of you provided any, you make up stories? Should we automatically assume of their murder on the back of the courts not forthcoming with information? "So before you accuse me of rumour mongering look at the facts I presented and see if you have answers to it." I see no fact here but baseless allegations.
  18. "To prove that they could damage the whole thing they made their mark in killing a foreign journalist in broad daylght infront of the executive committe in a rally orgainsed by the ICU.That was the killing of the Swedish journalist for Channel four." Interesting analysis but based on what evidence? there's nothing substantial here. Rumour- mongering is like plucking a chicken in a high wind. Unsubstantiated rumors, false allegations, and distorted facts can facts can be spread with impunity by those who don't take the time to check the facts-as well as by those who affirmatively seek to mislead. And once such baseless claims and innuendo are made, the Internet ensures that they take on a life of their own and can never be fully rooted out. One needs to take responsibility of his actions/words. We need to be careful of what we say without any evidence.
  19. I have just read the previous posts of this thread. The likes of Irshad Manji, Ayan Hersi, Salamn Rushdie, are just 3 examples of so-called Muslims who champion liberalism in the name of Islam, where in fact they are succumbing to the secular agenda and sucking upto their publishers and writing the rubbish that is desired by those who seek rubbish. They are nothing more than liberal islamists. They are extremists in the same manner as the literal islamists. I think Liberal Islamism is a danger to mainstream Islam in the same manner Literal Islamism is also a threat, ie. both are extremes And in Islam we are told to "take the middle way". Liberal/Progressive/Modernist Islam clearly is a secular christianised version of Islam which fits itnto a secular democracy. It allows the functioning of usury capitalism and privatises religion....attempts to keep it private. Islam does not need Reform, Muslims just need to live by Islam. kheyr i just saw your post. Will reply later.
  20. "Activism will only succeed when it remembers that a misplaced rigorism is less dangerous than an improper liberalism." ---Shaykh Abdal Hakim Murad.
  21. Salaam TS "i have yet to see a Somali woman wanting to share. Also i have yet to see a happy family after the man of the house seeks his desire!" I have. In fact plenty of them. This doesnt prove anything though. It is all anecdotal. But some polygamy marriages do work out. Some monomogy marriages dont work out. It all depends on the situation you face at that time. So unless we are facing this dilema, it is hard to say what we'd do.
  22. Caamir Salaam Men and women have clear roles that shouldnt overlap. Having said this, there are instances when sensitivity is needed from our menfolk. I know that nice men dont get a look in. How many times have i heard 'he is too nice therefore not my type'. Those ladies miss out in my opinion. Nice men treat you right. I always had trouble reconciling my feminist tendencies with my deen. But 5 year marriage taught me one thing: The art of compromising and respecting each other's opinion, even if you dont agree. I always encourage women to be aware of her Islamic rights over her husband and the rights of her husband over her. I remember putting CD titled "the rights of the husband and wife" in my car couple of times with my husband.

  24. I think the era of clan maybe a thing of the past. AFter all we have people of the same clan on opposing sides in the name of TFG and ICU.
  25. lol ^^..I heard that Cadde was talking to ICU on the low. Not sure how true this is. Maybe Duke can help to clarify
