This entire issue is about the presence of African mercaneries on somali soil. That's why you still won't condemn them because your entire existence depends on them. What self respecting somali would welcome, host and call brothers mercaneries that don't care about your stability but in fact live of your misery.

Malister what rise ???? Are you that deluded what rise are you referring to? Didn't Vila Somalia just get attacked the other day ? Your "millions"of bandits can not secure mugdisho let alone anywhere else.

Ethiopia in bay and bakool, Kenya in the south, Djiboti in hirran, Uganda and Burundi in mugdisho and its locality.... Were do your bandits control???

You need to stop lieing to yourselves. You need to accept the fact that this govenement is a failure. The bandits are failures and the entire stricture is a failure. Somalia is more divided today then 5 years ago...

All foreign soldiers must leave Somalia. Somalis do not want them or need them. Islamic law should be Implemented across the country and a tribal national conference should be organised followed by the transfer of blood money between all rival tribes.

Get your head out of the sand malister. It's easy for us all to see through your delusion.

250 Somali soldiers graduate from EU academy as US unveils special forces training programme

By Oscar Nkala

Friday, August 8, 2014

At least 250 soldiers of the Somali National Army (SNA) have graduated from a two-week long European Union-sponsored military training course focused on urban warfare and human rights.

Media reports from Mogadishu quoted SNA spokesman General Abdulkader Nur saying the training, which is provided by the European Union Training Mission in Somalia (EUTM), is part of the rebuilding of the national army so that it can defeat the Islamist Al Shabaab and other militias operating across the country.

Nur said the new graduates will soon be deployed on special military assignments and intelligence gathering operations against Al Shabaab in urban centres across the Horn of Africa country.

EUTM Somalia head Brigadier General Massimo Mingiardi said the training was intended to build the operational capabilities of the army so that it can defeat terrorist groups and guarantee national security.

The graduation of the EUTM recruits coincided with the US confirming that it has trained two SNA commando units of 270 special forces in counter-insurgency, counter-terror operations, executive protection and rapid reaction.

According to US officials, more than 450 SNA troops will be trained into the three units of the Gaashan special forces by the end of this year.

SNA commander General Dahir Aden Elmi said the first unit of 150 special forces started training in October 2013, adding that training for the second unit is already under way. “They are receiving special training for fighting in the jungle and in the city. They can conduct any kind of operations in modern warfare, [including] guerrilla type," Elmi said.

Last month, the SNA welcomed back 110 soldiers who returned from a 10-month long special forces training programme in Turkey. The soldiers were trained at a military academy in Istanbul in terms of a 2010 bilateral defence co-operation agreement in which Ankara agreed to provide training for the new Somali army.

Last month, France and the US agreed to train more SNA soldiers as the international capacity building programme for Somali defence and security forces gathers momentum.

“We want to help all African Nations especially Somalia where there are terrorist groups who are threat to the national security of the country,” US President Barrack Obama said after discussing ways of stemming the spread of terrorism in East Africa with French President Francois Hollande.

The EU training mission for Somalia shifted base to Mogadishu from Uganda at the end of 2013 after concluding the combat and intelligence training of 3 600 Somali troops who have since been deployed to various units fighting the Al Shebbab insurgency.

Meanwhile, 86 members of the European Union Training Mission Somalia (EUTM Somalia) were last week awarded with the Common Security and Defence Policy Service Medal for Somalia during a ceremony at the International Campus within the Mogadishu International Airport.

EUTM Somalia Mission Commander Brigadier General Massimo Mingiardi awarded the medal to members from Italy, Germany, Sweden, Netherlands, Hungary, Spain, Serbia, Belgium, Finland, and Portugal.

He said the medal is a sign of honour for 'their efforts and their dedication' to the EU's mission of building a professional and accountable security and defence apparatus in Somalia.

1 Eid picture of the market close to Eid, one private company building and one corner of mugdisho doesn't amount to peace. The same thing can be found anywhere in the world. In Afghanistan, Iraq even in Syria with all the damage. These superficial things is what Somalis use to prove a point. You have not answered any of the questions posed. You avoided it and use snippets of picture to prove your argument.

Somalia is under occupation. The govenement has no real control over anything. Like I sai the entire country has been divided into corners occupied by naibors who have no real interest in seeing a stable Somalia. Stability is none existent even in mugdisho. Were so called mps get shot weekly, were violence is the norm. Were there is no real presence of a govenement other then a few building with au protection. No judiciary, no courts, no institutions, no credible police force no real army.

As Iraq, Syria and Libya and yemen become more unstable the west in particular the Americans will wash their hands of Somalia.

Nothin tangible is coming out of this place for a long time to come

CidanSultan, if Somalia is under occupation then so is Djibouti since they have foreign Americans and French forces protecting their government. And there are many other countries whose entire stability relies on a foreign military power being stationed in their country. So are those countries not "real" countries either? Why are you imposing a double-standard on Somalia? The AU does not do the bulk of the fighting in Somalia anymore. A large part of their forces are just stationed in barracks while the Somali troops do the real dirty work of fighting Al Shabab and trying to extend control across all of Somalia. It'll take time, but be optimistic.

I mean, look at your country Somaliland. Somaliland has issues as well

I mean, 23 years of "independence" for Somaliland, and they STILL don't fully control all of their borders. Just recently a contingent of Somalilander troops arrived in Taleex, and it was big news. Do you really think the "Somaliland" government in the early 1990's had the same capabilities as they have today?

Rome wasn't built in a day. You have this peculiar belief that Somalis are going to stabilize their country overnight.

P.S. We all know that most of the developments going on in Hargeisa and Berbera are done by PRIVATE INDIVIDUALS and private companies. The Government has nothing to do with it. You wanna talk about a government that does nothing for it's own people, look outside in your own backyard, where useless Somalilander politicians are playing identity politics in order to get elected. There's a pretty fragile and delicate balance of power right now in Somaliland, and the mutual animosity between certain clans in Somaliland is clear for anyone to see. So pay attention to your own country before you go on a rant criticizing and bashing Somalia. Your own country needs a lot of work as well.

Somalia is progressing, and Al Shabab doesn't have the power or ability to ever control large swathes of Somalia again. And the people of Somalia are mostly against their rule as well as their tactics.

What really gets to me, is that CidanSultan is virtually ignoring the serious problems that exist in Somaliland. He's pretending that it doesn't exist, and then he wants to focus on Somalia and claim that there's no progress taking place!

I mean, look at Puntland, Galmudug, Hiiraan, Mogadishu and other parts of Somalia that are clearly progressing and moving forward, regardless of what the corrupt politicians are doing.

He thinks that the Somali National Army will be built in one day. But then he forgets that in 1995, the country of "Somaliland" was nowhere near as capable as it is today. So he wants to judge Somalia by one standard and Somaliland by a different standard.
