President Xasan Sheikh: No regional authority can claim ports or airports

Recommended Posts

What does he mean exactly? The federal government should have no stake in the ownership of ports and airports. If he's talking about security and customs enforcement, then of course that shouldn't be left to regional administrations. If that simple fact becomes an area of contention, then I'll, once again, lose any hope of seeing a better Somalia.

The problem with this new crop of leaders is that they do not know much about the system of governance, and he little they know is from the dictatorial military rule of one-man show, and are therefore constantly airing their ignorance. The concept of democratic governance is wasted on them. I do not know why they are not able to seek counsel or read on the subject before making complete *rses of themselves.

Security and supervision of point of entries [Airport, ports, border crossing] is the job of the federal government, as for revenue collection, tax will be collected locally with the federal government either getting a cut or it introducing a separate federal tax.

exactly the government should get their cut like 50 % of the taxes the rest should be invested in the federal states.

You are all drinking from the same well, and are putting the horse before the cart.

It is futile to talk about the specifics (who gets what % and where) until an understanding has been reached among all parties. Get the federal units first, reconcile differences, and then address the specifics.

May I suggest you all read the history of the US during the 8 years of the Articles of Confederation, and before it deciced to adopt federalism. And while at it, read the Federalist papers by Hamilton and Co., on both sides of the argument. There are lessons in there for all, more so for the Somali wannabe leaders, and those who fancy themselves as political commentators.
