ONLF Statement

21-08-2012

The death of the Ethiopian dictator may usher a new era of stability and peace in Ethiopia and in the Horn as a whole. Meles Zenawi’s administration has caused unimaginable suffering to the Ocaden people, far beyond any of his predecessors. He has also played great role in creating conflicts and instability in the Horn of Africa in order to perpetuate his regime’s dominance and hegemony of the region.

The Ocaden National Liberation Front may consider this as an opportunity for the succeeding Ethiopian regime to initiate a new era of peace, stability, freedom and justice for the people of Ocaden and not to pursue the failed policies of the past.

ONLF will continue to struggle for the rights of the Ocaden people to exercise their inalienable right to self-determination. ONLF will also work with any progressive open-minded opposition forces who are ready to recognize the rights for self-determination for all nations and nationalities.

Finally, ONLF calls upon the international community to promote democracy and freedom in Ethiopia rather than backing a dictatorship.

Ocaden National Liberation Front.

The ONLF supporters have dwindled in size. Many of them are supporting Kilinka Shanaad and carrying that Somaliland-flag with the Camel on it.

Somalia

ONLF should go back to its old roots of WSLF to unite all the Somalis in the region if they want to have a say in the future of the region.

^ Maxamed Cumar Cismaan thinks otherwise. He believes that his clan is the majority, larger than all the rest of the Somalis combined therefore, to fight under WSLF is an insult to Ina Cumar Cismaan.

Faafan

(Reuters) - An outlawed Ethiopian rebel group said on Tuesday the death of Prime Minister Meles Zenawi could usher in a new era of peace in Ethiopia, but reaffirmed its readiness to fight for self-determination.

"The death of the Ethiopian dictator may usher a new era of stability and peace in Ethiopia and in the Horn as a whole," a statement by the ****** National Liberation Front (ONLF), said.

"ONLF will also work with any progressive open-minded opposition forces who are ready to recognize the rights for self-determination for all nations and nationalities," it said.
