Incredibly proud of Shukri Haji Bandere! If people only knew of the sacrifices she made when she left a promising life in the West to return to her homeland more than 15 years ago. Hope she makes good, productive contacts at the award ceremony. The Sec of State is known to be a huge supporter of women's issues.

Amazing job what Shukri Xaaji Baandere and her team from Candle Light have done in Somaliland. She has made a great sacrifies, after her husband died she returned back in the begin of the '90 to a war thorn country to start helping people.

If only people knew how she started this organisation back then using her house as an office in Hargeisa, she borrowed a computer from friends, a dinner table from family to use as an office bureau, little cash from friends to travel and sometimes while travelling throughout the country she had to sleep on the ground sometimes using her shoes as a pillow.

Shukri is the sort of people that never seek fame, public attention, acknowledgement or wealth. She is a very modest human beingwho's life objective is to help others, an example to us all.
