African Union Requirement for a Somaliland Recognition as an Independent State

Recommended Posts

It is ironic to ask AU -- victims of that era -- to revisit this painful history. Even I of all people know :) they will be reluctant to open this Pandora box. They would looove to have this issue resolved internally.

Awoowe bal nimankeer farabaxsiga aha xasuusi xikmadii Kuluc naftiisa kula dooday :)

From Wikileaks:

Meles said that he met with

Rayale upon his return from Washington and urged him to write

to the AU requesting that they identify a timeframe for a

discussion on the Somaliland issue.
However, Rayale "messed

things up" by essentially re-sending his previous letter

requesting recognition and membership in the AU, rather than

asking for a timeframe for a discussion on Somaliland. Meles

said that, if Somaliland had taken the route that he

suggested, it would have been likely that the issue could

have been addressed soon. However, if the elections for a

new AU Chairperson take place during the AU Summit, Meles

said that the next chairperson is unlikely to be as positive

towards Somaliland as Konare, which will only further delay

any discussion of Somaliland.

Innaa Lillaahi Wa Innaa Ilayhi Raajicuun, upon reading this, it is clear that madaxda reer Somaliland iney shacabkooda lugooya un u hayaan as they don't know anything about siyaasad, and that they are just there to travel around and enjoy the diplomatic paradise of being a leader.

African Union Discussing about Somaliland's recognition ......

That itself is a progress miyaa? Very disappointing progress, if you ask me. It has been 20 years, GDMT!

^It would have been a big deal in 1991, 1992, 1994, not in 2010 or 2011. Wax fahan, By now the "AU" should have recognized the darn place. :D

^LOL. Sida gabdhaha ha ooyin maxaad ragga ugu dhahdaa? I am just saying the great recognition seeking efforts shouldn't have ended in "AU discussed ( not recognized but just discussed) about Somaliland after loooong 20 years. And then AU decided not recognize LOL.

Anyway, carry on with your excitement, I didn't mean to interrupt.

After 20 years ,,, AU have no choice but to sit and put Somaliland in their aganda. Discuss possible recognition and its implications and suggest solutions.

This comes besides all that qaylo iyo buuq of Somaliland ma jirto ,,, one clan project,,,,, Somalia waa mid ,,, and so forth. Wax fahan :D

Seeking int recongnition is not the top priority of the current Somaliland goverment. Its all about economic development, recongnition will come once you mean something economic wise.
