Thankful

That's what happens when something happens in the south, you just disappear. There is no leadership there that answers to anyone, so who do you negotiate with. It's quite said that these people haven't been released.

What ? Folks are kidnapped in the south for the sake of maybe someday their captors would dismemeber their bodies.

I wouldn't make this thing an issue of south, north or Puntland- as I gather from your inference. Folks(in PL) that were rounded up were aggressed by men of authority. Situation that needs to be rectified, shall be rectified. In Xamar cadeey, kidnapping is a profession.

Two kidnapped journalists are freed in Somalia

Two foreign journalists kidnapped in Somalia by militants in August 2008 have been freed by their captives, reports say.

Canadian Amanda Lindhout and Australian Nigel Brennan are reported to be in a hotel in the capital Mogadishu.

Somali MP Ahmed Diiriye told the Reuters news agency that officials had spent eight days seeking their release.

Giving few further details about how their release was secured, he said they were handed over by militia.

Somalia has been without an effective government since 1991, and journalists and humanitarian workers are frequently kidnapped.

The freelance journalists had been working for Western media organisations when they were captured.

Alarm raised

Somali journalist and interpreter Abdifatah Mohammed Elmi was kidnapped with them but was released in January.

They were taken following a trip to visit displaced people outside the city.

The alarm was raised when they failed to return to their hotel after a few hours.

Police spokesman Col Abdulhai Hassan Barise said the two journalists were currently in the hotel with police.

It is not known if a ransom was paid for their release.

Earlier this year British journalist Colin Freeman and Spanish photographer Jose Cendon were released after being held by Somali kidnappers for 40 days.

At least in the south Somali people are not kidnapped and handed over to Ethiopia. Talk about leadership!

Are naive or you just wake up. In Mogadishu in the time of warlords so many people have been kidnapped and sold to Ethiopia and USA. What is this a romatic view of the south that crontradicts reality, my son the place have become the graveyard for Somalia for last 20 years.
