Good Somali citizens are working hard to improve lives of Somali youth who are the vehicle of destruction used by warlords and others to kill and destroy beatiful cities of ours, but good concious somali herios are starting to reserve that destruction mentality to good one. Here are pictures of ceremony held to day to repair one of the old staduims in Mogadishu.

I have to congratulate these real somalis who are trying to build somalia from bottom up.

Somali children in malnutrition rise sharply over past six months

2008-07-26 10:55:51 Print

UNITED NATIONS, July 25 (Xinhua) -- Somali children suffering malnutrition have increased by 11 percent over the past six months, to reach nearly 180,000, according to the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF).

The internally displaced persons (IDP) concentration areas are among the most at risk of malnutrition, according to UNICEF. The prolonged conflict and civil insecurity in Mogadishu and its surrounding areas have led to an influx of displaced people into temporary settlements across the country.

Afgoye hosts one of the biggest IDP settlements with a population exceeding 300,000 people. Analyses indicate that the nutrition situation in Afgoye is critical, and is further complicated by limited access because of the security situation.

Northern parts of Somalia are also hit hard by the deteriorating nutrition conditions, worsened by skyrocketing food prices and the devaluation of the Somali shilling. The urban poor and displaced are the most vulnerable populations, with thousands of families from the conflict-affected south forced to seek temporary refuge in the northern parts of the country.

Starting in August and throughout the remainder of the year, UNICEF and partners will provide rations of 10 kilo of UNIMIX a month per child to about 7,500 under-five children in Bossaso IDP camps, as well as to children in Garowe and Galkayo camps, combined with a therapeutic feeding program for severely malnourished children.

"So far we have been lucky to be strongly backed by our donors. However, with the recent increase in malnutrition rates and the need for accelerated humanitarian assistance, more funds are required for us to continue and expand our programs effectively," said Christian Balslev-Olesen, UNICEF Representative to Somalia.

Zoobe

Mogadishu is once again a capital that belongs to all Somali's.

With a central central government in place we shall be able to overcome our greatest enemies.

Poverty and ignorance.

May Allah bless the third republic of Somalia.

I have to disagree, stadiums, schools and other means of keeping kids of the street instead running around with guns is the very thing we need to get to the peace you talk.

xidigo somali men don't care much about the plight of somali mothers and children. they are consumed by clan braggadocio, nepotism, corruption, mismanagement of funds, Qat chewing, mas murder, being warlords and getting ministrial and ambassadorial posts so they can milk the few handouts the world community planned to feed the starving. They finally grew bigger bellies, buy few suits, chew a lot Qat, die of diabetes, and high blood pressure...while millions of Somali kids die for curable diseases, starvation and malnutrition.

I call you and other Somali sisters to start a radical revolution to gt rid of these men who destroyed our country and killed our people. It is time Somali women to rise up and demand their rights to life and prosperity.

Somalia needs baby steps to take since we don't have resource to rebuild the whole city. Yes, I concer with Zoobe, Mogishu is slowly becoming city of all somalis. Touch kids who are being used by merciners some activities such sports events and schooling. When we have kids in schools or sport activities, then Mogidishu will be peaceful becuase those crazy insurgents don't know to fight, real fight without using teen agers backs.
