Somali intellectuals challenge the Federal Parliament!

Recommended Posts

EXCERPTS from press release by Somali Intellectuals Without Borders (i.e. Doctors with Borders, Journalists without Borders - and now, this):

SOURCE: http://www.hiiraan.org/2005/mar/siwb.htm

"We understand that some Mogadishu politicians and the Mogadishu-based Islamic Courts have voiced their opposition to the deployment of the proposed IGAD Peace enhancing forces on the grounds that Ethiopia , a member of IGAD and a possible contributor to the proposed forces, has a hidden agenda to colonize Somalia .

Mr. Speaker and honorable members of Parliament, this spurious argument should not emotionally sway you because it is an argument that has neither logic nor substance. We remind you that these born-again nationalists were at one time or another, client rebels of Ethiopia and that they owe their current economic as well as political power to Ethiopia ."

And the truth shall set you free! Every single Muqdisho war/druglord has benefitted from Ethiopia during the Somali civil war. And now, they're suddenly die-hard, flag-waving nationalists?

"...a second question that you should ponder upon while casting your vote is, why in the past 14 years, besides chopping the hands of poor and vulnerable individuals in Mogadishu, the Islamic courts have not stood up for the poor and the vulnerable and challenged the warmongers in some pockets of Mogadishu , or why they have failed to organize rallies to address the issues of disarmament and peace in Mogadishu in the past."

The so-called 'Islamic courts' are the same as the warlords - only they're hiding behind the facade of our holy religion to further promote their socio-political and economic interests in southern Somalia (namely Muqdisho, where they wield the most power). Its a good question though: why do the so-called 'Islamic courts' enforce their breed of Islamic law in SOME parts of Muqdisho while they turn a blind eye to the actions of war/druglords only a few blocks from their premises?

NGONGE

Somali Chewers Without Plastic Bags decry the involvement of Ethiopia in Somali’s affairs.

A letter to President Yusuf

We, the undersigned, being of sound body and mind, have watched with deepening concern the policies of the Ethiopian tyrants towards our beloved motherland.

Following the historic events in Kenya and your election as our president, most Somali citizens and many of our members in marfashs all around the world were jubilant and full of hope and expectation that you will lead our suffering country back to health. We looked forward to your renowned ability to heal wounds with your diplomatic skills and vast wisdom. Alas, you went ahead and asked the forces of tyranny to help you in your mission.

Sir, we strongly distrust the motives of the IGAD forces. Unlike many of the doomsayers that accuse Ethiopia and Kenya of wanting to get a foothold in Somalia to control rivers, ports and water supplies, we don’t believe these are the real reasons behind this over-friendly Ethiopian offer of help. We have reason to believe that these dark forces aim to control our Qaat supply! They want to control and alter our way of life, sir.

As the elected President of the transitional Federal government, it’s your responsibility and it’s your duty, to protect the Somali way of life. We hereby beseech you to reconsider your decision to seek Ethiopian help and request that you lobby the Untied Nations for Bangladeshi or Pakistani soldiers.

We share your dismay at the actions of the few rebels in your government and are alarmed at their ability to undermine the strength of the TFG, thus necessitating an invasion by Ethiopia. We condemn, in the strongest possible language, the actions of these rebels.

We share your view that Somalia must continue having friendly relations with all its neighbours. However, we urge you to limit that friendliness to the internationally understood borders.

Sir, we hope that you heed our words and keep a vigilant eye on this Ethiopian serpent lest it swallow us whole and, again, for we can’t stress that point enough, change our way of life.

We remain, sir, your humble and loyal servants.

PS

We couldn’t find a functioning pen to sign this document with. We trust that your Excellency will nonetheless consider this letter signed. Should you ever feel the need to seek the counsel of any of your loyal citizens, feel free to make a visit to any of our branches the world over. We might even push the boat and light up some uunsi in your honour.

How dare you man!? The people who signed this very important document - namely Somali Intellectuals Without A Home - are fathers, husbands, sons and refugees. Show more respect to our intellectuals, namely high-caliber men such as Dr Galaydh :D

But seriously, you guys make fun of politicians, warlords, and now, intellectuals? Dammit! No wonder we're going downhill. Shidh

smile.gif A befitting title would have been:

Somalis without a country.

There is another communique by "somali concerned citizens" on Hiiranonline. This list consists of former ministers, directors and teachers who made somalia what it is.

So, we have two groups of people (somalis without a country" and the loser's association". Soomaaliyeey xaal qaado.

P.s do you ask yourself why somalis love titles? Everyone is either ; a barafasoor, dhooktor, janaraale, koloneeyl, injineer smile.gif
