What more can be done to appease the shabaab?

Recommended Posts

Sheikh Hassan Dahir Aweys has officially come out and said that he will not negotiate with the goverment in any way shape or form until the withdrawal of AMISOM forces occur then talks can be held with "our deceived brothers"!

If any of you have been keeping tabs on the SWAT valley issue, how much more can be done to appease the shabaab less than full surrender to their agenda?

The government must ask the AMISOM to go. Anyway, they are irrelevant. One government minister I saw recently said "AMISOM ma saari karo oo dawlado waa weyn ayey meesha u joogaan, anaga noo ma joogaan". He was honest. Amisom is there to watch the Sharif Government itself. So, I can see the difficulty but it is not more important than saving the blood of Somali's.

Once they go, an all-out war must be declared on Alshabab and petulant beared jaahiliin, who are mostly from rural background.

I agree, get out the foreign troops and implement Sharica Law and then we will declare an all-out war against extremists!

LOL in Mogadishu the extremists are not significant, I was talking about rooting them out of Baidoba, Merca and Kismanyo.

^Mogadishu Society.

Reality is no one entity could do all of that anyway. It will take many years and concerted effort to achieve them.

The Alshabaab and co have been using the presence of AMISOM and fear of a secular TFG to bolster support, since the TFG declared it would be Shariica based- the only pretext left for the shabaab is the foreign fighters in the capital.

The TFG could ask them to leave ASAP to appease Aweys and Alshabaab, but have no doubt they would turn on the TFG for being a puppet of the US and the west, ultimately they want to rule Somalia on their own.

The TFG and sheikh Shariif should go as far as to offer to declare a timetable of exit for the AU troops upon the shabaab accepting to come to the table for genuine talks.

If the Alshabaab don't accept this, the TFG needs to root them out. Because if the leaders of the alshabaab have any sense they will realise that if they come to the table NOW they can have a lasting impact on future Somali governments by creating a firm Islamic foundation and constitution. This is the best moment to cash in, as it were.

If they stick to their myopic view of the situation and continue to be uncompromising it is very likely that they will take this TFG down with them, and they will be responsible for the years of anarchy to come.

The latter scenario is more likely i'm afraid :D , we Somalis are cursed with calooshooda u shaqestayaal and religious fanatics who can only thrive in a disunited and chaotic land.

Abeeso ninkii koriyaa, abaalkeed hela.Pakistan propped up these people and now they come to regret it.

As for Al-Shabaab, there is no pleasing them. These men are not interested in politics and for good reason, they believe they could have Somalia for themselves. The Ethiopian withdrawal have encouraged them and their opponents are divided and lack focus.

Let us not get fooled by the media and our resident confused Jihadi, Al Shabaab is not a super organised group that needs to be appeased. The reality on the ground is that these are very young boys aged between 12-18 who grew up in civil war, they have no direct chain of command. This explains the recent rise in assassinations such Tahlil of HornArique, no one has claimed the killings and even their supposed leaders (Abu Mansur) is condemning the killings.

I have recently heard from a relative that came from Mogadishu that a 12 year boy killed his parents because he accused them of not being married lawfully insisting that they should remarry, incidentally this boy’s preacher and Amir is a 16 year old. Now do should the government negotiate with every teenage gang leader in Mogadishu.

Pres Sharif should talk to and reach his hand to who ever wants to negotiate and talk, but more importantly he should present incentives (Schooling, work, Islamic Scholarship) for these young misguided children to give up there criminal activities.

One cannot appease everyone and sooner or later Goodane, Mansur et al will come to find themselves isolated individuals

Ps: Amisom should leave in a phased withdrawal, the stronger the government forces become the less Amisom presence is required.
