LST, I agree with you on that one, however Alshabaab should at least make a proper procedure to excute someone, otherwise what will the difference be between them and the former thugs that use to kill and murder innocent citizens of Kismayo. The young always to rush to carry a death sentence, what is the rush, not really necessary, take your time and think of the consequences.

Who on earth has ever labelled Al-Shabab different than the thugs...the only difference is when they are commiting the crime xadiid ayey kugu so dalilinayaan...which makes them only more worse and dangerous.

To Kismayo, alshabaab brought peace and security. As LSK noted, the death of an individual should not be the yardstick to assess alshabaabs admin in that city. We should look at the no so distant past where lootings, killings, and insecurities crippled that great city and its people. Today Kismayo is not only a peaceful city, but it’s also a thriving place, and has regained its dominant status business wise.

It’s not coincident that Ibrahim Afghan and Abdurrahman Siiro pacified the most two unstable regions in South Somalia: Kismayo and Marka! In the absence of federal government these regions will be better off in Alshabaabs hands as they bring justice, and do away with clan dominance.

Walaaleyaal, Let's not make too many assumptions. The people in Kismayu came to judgment on the women who was stoned by trial and the same for this man. These people have a judge and court to deal with these issues. If you have questions about the details why don't you check their website or send them an email. If you don't know something, try to find out rather than making assumptions. To think that they would just kill someone for no reason is just strange. They have fought to establish the Shariah so i would have to think that they are doing their best to do that.

LST and Xiinfaniin continue nursing your bias. The superficiality of your statements is such that, even when the legitimacy of Al Shabaab is not questioned, you continue on in a superficial fashion to contest points that have not been addressed, on account of my clan background you see. ;)

Extremely juvenile but expected from the old guard nevertheless. Let the world be a witness to hypocrisy exemplified when Xiin is a superficial Al Shabaab supporter in Kismaayo but a critic everywhere else.

Good day sirs. Unfortunately, I have no time for petty games. smile.gif

I must agree with LSK and Xiin, the Kismayu admin have brought stability to the areas as well as those in Marka. However this incident is not excusable by the encouraging development in security.

Horn, alshabaab is not a perfect organization. Their shortcomings are numerous. Chasing Hiiraale and Indhacadde however are not among the shortcomings I have objected. Neither is deterring mini warlords in Wardille's death.

Jumcah wanaagsan ikhyaar.ta

NASSIR

HornAfrique, I believe it's almost impossible to verify the evidence that he was spying on Ethiopians and Hiiraale's recent military showdown in Gede region.

But for the most part, his killing was a politically motivated one since it coincides with Hiirale's activities in Gedo.

They even have a non-believers cemetary for Somalis? That is truly worrying aspect of Somalia's multi-dimensional conflict.

-----

Friday, January 16, 2009 MOGADISHU (Reuters) - Hardline Somali Islamist insurgents said on Friday they executed a politician accused of being a "spy" for Ethiopian troops and militia opposed to them. The shooting of Abdirahman Ahmed, 55, in the southern port of Kismayu was the highest-profile such execution by the al Shabaab (Youth) group since a young woman was stoned to death late last year after being accused of adultery.

Al Shabaab, which is on a U.S. list of terrorism groups, took Kismayu in August 2008 during its now two-year war against the Somali government and its Ethiopian military backers. It controls large swathes of south-central Somalia.

A local spokesman for al Shabaab, Sheikh Hassan Yacqub, said Ahmed had been warned several times to break ties with the Ethiopians and local militias who previously controlled Kismayu. "He was in our jail for eight days and then we took him before the court, and finally we executed him according to Islamic sharia law," he told Reuters. "Anybody who spies for the non-believers will definitely face the death sentence." A statement on www.kataaib.net, one of several sites used by the militants, said Ahmed, was shot after he confessed to being "Allah's enemy" and a court found him guilty of trying to mastermind the re-capture of Kismayu.

Local residents said he had been buried in a place called the "non-believers' cemetery." Also on Friday, foreign and Somali media watchdogs said kidnappers had released a local journalist, Abdifatah Mohamed Elmi, who was kidnapped in August last year in Mogadishu. Two foreign journalists taken with him, a Canadian and an Australian, are still missing. Source: Reuters, Jan 16, 2009
