The Beginning of an End of a long wished Dream – The Somaliland Dream

Recommended Posts

Many hours and a time have been spent on the discussion of a secessionist clan from a nation known in the history of their homogeneity and how eager they all were and proud to be called Somali. It is a nation of poets and aristocrats that succeeded to unify their nationhood with their faith. A nation that use to sing songs like, Anagu diidnaye ogow, dalkayaga ninkii doonahaayayo, Anagu diidnaye ogow… But this nation is going through a hard time in its present history. It has no more nationalist leaders that could unify the nation and give aspiration and vision to be the nation of Somalia.

But instead we have people who could not see beyond the edge of their plates; people with no visions accept ambitions of how to get few dollars; people who believe no more right or wrong; people who admire the killings and the sufferings of the children; people who wish and long for the division of the Somali nation. Some of these people sit in the second capital of the Somali state Hargeisa.

Since 1991 some of these people in Hargeisa had nothing else in mind except how to capitalize the turbulence and the suffering of the Somali people for their own egoistic agenda. In order to justify their objectives they were using an unjustified colonial heritance, which the Somali people were proud of getting rid of them. Although every person with a common sense knew that there is no justifiable factor, juristically, politically, socially and economically that could enable these people achieve their goal of being recognized as a nation, still they believed false hopes. But they have not yet realized in the time span of 17 years that for the benefit of the Somali people they should have worked towards a peaceful settlement for every Somali in the whole nation, which might have been beneficial to the common man and woman in the villages around Hargeisa.

Instead they set in their mind a fictional factor that says, concurring other regions such as Sool, Sanaag and Cayn will enhance their dream of getting recognition from the world as a nation. But this step will be fatal for their present status quo of being tolerated by the other peace loving people in these regions and beyond.

Therefore I do believe that the beginning of an end of the long wished dream of Somaliland has just started. Maybe this is what some of the so-called politicians like Riyaale and Siilaanyo in Hargeisa wished in private; to find a way to end of separating one clan from the rest of the nation.

In the past many uninformed people were raising points and using words like “dispute” between two regional administrations such as Puntland and the North-West over Sool, Sanag and Cayn. Such an assumption allows in the mind of the uninformed that there is a territorial dispute between two different nations, at the same time declaring the people of Sool, Sanaag and Cayn as non-existent. But the reality is that a clan wishes through force gain an unrealistic ambition of achieving recognition as a state and separation from the rest of the country, while the three regions would like to keep their long fought independence from the colonial powers and work towards a peaceful path in regaining the lost state of the Somali nation.

The people of Sool, Cayn and Sanaag had enough of this satirical theater. The time has come to stop their tolerance towards the few trying to bring this region into a new civil war. It is the people of these regions now to set the agenda and bring an end to this Kasperle Theater. The other question is what will become of the few natives spearheading the war in their regions? We all know that the rebel organization of SNM made their fighters heroes, but I do wonder whether these natives are aware of what is at stake. History will tell us the rest of the story.
