The Inherent Deficiencies of Somali culture

Recommended Posts

The Somali people have no Somali National Archives, No Somali National Museum, No Museum of the Somali People, No Centre that protect and makes the Somali Language thrive like the French Académie Française.

We have no means today of documented record of history. That can be passed down through generations that can be poured over.

Even in this so called 'government'. Reality is that Somalia does not have a government it has cabal entirely subservient to foreign interests. There are no recorded minutes of what is said in meetings, to whom and by whom. That can be accessed by scholars, historians, students of history to make sense of the madness that is Somalia.

These are the end state of inherent deficiencies of what is said to be a 'oral society'. The same with the banality of pastoralism - these 'nomads' who roam, then settle, they then build, graze, plough then they pull down everything they have built then they stuff their twiggs, carpets, canisters into camels and then do the process all-over again somewhere else.

You couldn't make up how inherently banal and backward Somalis are.

You have a point here, remember occasions where newly elected officials were destroying archives and documents of their predecessors, as they were in opposition to the incumbent government and wanted to erase everything they did and left behind so one could make their own mark on things.

And this isn’t an incident, but a wider backwards and false thinking existing amongst Somali’s, that one has to destroy what is there in order to build  build something new and claim ownership/legacy.

That’s why you also have dozens of institutions, authorities, committees and offices that have ceased  to exist as one hasn’t organised proper handover, merger or follow-up, while at the same time one is investing and putting up new structures which will eventually also cease.

have you seen how SO many Somalis, writing books,  now seem confused, by reading history from the side and perspective of colonism, some go to London, Rome, to read about Somali history, and spew nonsense, and very confused.

It is troubling times, a nation that DOES not have a memory, and can not remember what happen, will almost certainly repeat the same mistakes,
