A spokesperson for Somalia’s president said on Saturday that the government is set to consult parliament on the possibility of establishing diplomatic relations with Israel, Hebrew media reported.

War bixintaan oo ku saabsan

1.HSM government is set to consult parliament on the possibility of establishing diplomatic relations with Israel

2. HSM secretly met with former prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu in Israel in 2016

3.  HSM return to power was a positive development for a potential normalization process between Mogadishu and Jerusalem

4.  HSM first term, A lower-level meeting was held in Jerusalem in December 2015, involving representatives from the Economy Ministry

5. Muse Bihi Abdi, recently told US officials he was making overtures to Israel but without any response. (maraykankuu uga dacwooday Israel way i ignore gareenayaan)

6. In May, Israel’s embassy in France organized a conference, inviting French and African journalists, diplomats, entrepreneurs, and artists to examine the future of Israeli cooperation with African countries and businesses, Somaliland was represented at the conference by the defense minister.

Waxaa cad, in HSM uu san laheen, siyaasad madax banaan, ee UAE ay dictate gareeyso his foreign policy. His first term and second term are the same and is based on serving the interest of AUE.

would the parliament accept normalisation with Israel and if they dont how UAE will react.

What HSM is getting in return for this huge sacrifice.

That is totally false. Their were reports that when Netanyahu was in Nairobi he met some African leaders while also HSM was in Nairobi, but there was never ever any rumors or reports about going all the way to Jerusalem.

The so called Abraham accord is one of the biggest geopolitics moves in the middle east involving the gulf nations except Qatar. Also Egypt and Sudan led by the the Junta might involve also. The UAE is using this accord to disarm the Iran nuclear agreement pushed by the Biden administration. They are even pushing a NATO style security grantee for the gulf nations and Israel. The Jewish state has a lot of influence in the region and the world and Somalia has every right to look its interest if normalization would lead to stability and security. Turkey has huge trade reaching over 5 billions with Israel, and Erdogan is making build the relationship even more.

That doesn't mean we have to  flow Turkey or anyone else for our interest. Yet, I would advise HSM not to rush to these things at the moment which might embolden certain extremist and fuel Al-shabaab to use this narrative to recruit innocent and unemployed boys.

Furthermore, we don't have to fall for every foreign media narrative trying their fishing expedition in our affaires. Martin Blout and others  had fed us false info about our soldiers in Eritrea and many had jumped the wagon. We have to be careful.

We can all play games back home , but foreign policy is very delicate business that should be left for experts.

  • Thanks 1

Galbeedi, there were very credible reports, in late 2016,  he secretly flew and met Netanyahu, please do some digging.

He also recently met them in UAE, but what does Israel has to offer to SOMALIS?

Yes. The UAE meeting is credible and possible. The Emirati guys are pushing this, but as you said, at the moment Somalia will not gain anything from this relationship, but I don't see a Somali president making that bold move in 2016 while the Turkiye and Israel relations were law due to the behavior of extreme right wing government of Netanyahu. Also, remember, HSM had great relations with Turkiye.

HSM in his last term did a lot of moves to please the west, the international organizations and even the UN, yet each one of them wrote disparaging reports about weapons being transferred to Al-shbaab, corruption and other outlandish allegations. Certainly there were some corruptions, but they went out of their way to destroy him. While Farmaajo was pro American, he flowed his own foreign policy and HSM probably has learned few things after meeting Farmaajo behind closed doors.

Also, credible reports indicate that the UAE trip wasn't successful in so many ways. I even heard that Turkiye had informed HSM not to change the military building process led by Turkiye and warned not to introduce any military presence of UAE in Somalia.

As mentioned, this Abraham accord is huge among the Arab league members, but we don't what we will gain from this. One thing that might help is the Israeli lobby in Washington makes things happen which might lead weapons embargo lifted and other things.

Two questions come to mind;

Does Somalia have relations with Palestina?

If not, how wise would it be to develop relations with only one of the two countries engaged in a conflict?

After all you are getting yourself involved in conflicts that you can’t comprehend and that potentially could backfire. And Somalia has a long and bad experience with this, very recently with the Gulf, but also during the Cold War and also in Africa, it was getting involved and choosing sides in conflicts and wars.

What I don't like is Arabs deciding who we should have relations with.

Moroco, Jordan, Egypt, Turkey and many others have relations with Israel and if we could gain anything we should do with our own terms.

Of course you could recognize Palestine as independent, but occupied state and support two state solutions. Even the PLO of Yasser Arafat used to have embassies in Somali back in the days.

The era of flowing Arabs on this issue is over. As I said, the influence of Israel in the region and in Washington couldn't be ignored, and Somali foreign policy experts must way the pros and cons and make the  logical decision. We are done fighting or carrying water for despotic Arabs who murder their own citizens in 2022.

One day its their Wahabi sect taking over our traditions, then Arab bathism and tribal ways crossing the oceans. We should look outside the gulf and look to China, Indonesia, Pakistan, Africa and other places.
