^I can think we all agree with Val or atleast I can! Ibti-January 26 is the official date the country ceased to exist a State but many miseries preceded that of course 88 and Mudug. As for celebration such event, I thought Jb was making contrast.
-
Ibti-January 26 represents 20 years of misery-(not cause for celebration or triumph) that's what came to my mind. The comment was to provoke him not my proudest moment I admit.
-
LoooooooooooL@Ibti-I admit I was little insensitive in the other thread but I think was on point about Jb's motive. Jb...Aamin but I get it duqa and I'm happy Hargeysa is doing ok but enough with the story history lesson.

Duke-Maxaa badali doona? Soomaali sidee udhaheesay Ilahow Siyad Barre rid bee iloobeen maxaa badali doona. I hope these 'spontaneous' demonstrations in Egypt don't lead to total chaos.

^My biological father been dead for over 30 years ta kale ineen oday cajuus baate ninyahow if you were dealing with Duceysane's father.

^As long as we ignored Jb's motivation was not best of intentions. Actually, a museum is not bad idea. It will provide an opportunity for honest debates (not emotionally ridden) and platform for an objective study of the past. Of course, I'm assuming the museum will welcome objective academicians and students of history.

Promethues...Some said Lipset was being too optimistic but I guess time has proven him right at least upto an extent and you are right Siyaad Barre was simply not equipped to have long-term vision. As far as Somaliland concerned, I agree it's far from being liberal society in the political sense and people view government the same way as they did in the Somali republic. It's cash cow since it's the only thing generating income. GoldCoast-Perhaps I could phrased differently but we do have affinity to ancestral and would wann see develop. Ibti-JB is still pissed that I questioned his motive in the other thread ( Hargeysa 91). Blessed....I welcome stability in whatever form. Realistically, in Somalia that's all you could ask for and expect from Somalis.

They already shot kid in broad day light. This could be transformational moment.

People leave Stoic alone-there's nothing wrong with supporting region for clan reasons just as long as you don't create or contribute to the conflicts in Somali regions of the Horn. If anything, I hope Stoic helps his people and not just admire their development from distance.

Prometheus;690904 wrote: I suspect Somaliland and Puntland do not enjoy higher per capita GDP, lower child mortality, higher life expectancy, higher literacy, or any number of socioeconomic indicators that are used to analyze economic and social development. There’s no real economy to speak of in either region. Stoic mentioned ‘sophisticated’ developments in Somaliland. Let’s not lower the bar too much. I think you can find such ‘sophisticated’ developments in Puntland and the Deep South as well. Ironically enough some of the least things people talk in regards to the collapse of Somali State is the economic deprivation and lack of social development.Would the reign of Barre been any different if he modernized Somalia like Mahathir for Malaysia and will democracy without economic and social development last? What good does an election for illiterate, unemployed, hungry man?

^I'm not sure what you are talking.

Gorilla Walks Like Human, Upright On Two Hind Legs (VIDEO) Apparently humans aren't the only ones who know how to multi-task. Ambam, a Western Lowland Gorilla, has recently become famous for walking upright on his hind legs, MSNBC reports. Phil Ridges, a keeper at Britain's Port Lympne Wild Animal Park, speculates that Ambam may have begun walking on his hind legs when he had his hands full with logs - the gorilla probably discovered that he could both walk and carry items at the same time. It's also possible that Ambam wanted a height advantage to peer over the wall and spot when keepers were bringing him food. Lastly, Ridges suggests that by standing upright, Ambam's hands don't get wet when it's raining. Quite good reasons indeed. Ambam isn't the first gorilla to walk on his hindlegs. In fact, this unusual upright walking style was also seen in Ambam's father and sister. Ambam is part of a group of critically endangered species at the park, which is run by The Aspinall Foundation, a group that also runs gorilla rescue projects in Congo and Gabon. http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2011/01/27/gorilla-walks-like-human_n_814994.html

LoooL@LSK you have flair for the dramatic. I thought the title of the thread was actually headline of the article you posted. It will be interesting to see how large the crowds will be after the friday and how hard Mubarak will come down on the demonstrators. It will also amazing to see the voice of the Muslim Brotherhood has been eclipsed. People came out in their thousands today in Yemen.

Yemen protests: Thousands call on president to leave Thousands of Yemenis are demonstrating in the capital Sanaa, calling on Ali Abdullah Saleh, president for more than 30 years, to step down. Reports say they gathered in at least four locations in the capital, including Sanaa University. Protesters chanted anti-government slogans and made reference to the overthrow of the Tunisian president. Organisers have called on students and civil society groups to protest against corruption and economic policies. Yemenis complain of mounting poverty among a growing young population and frustration with a lack of political freedoms. The country has also been plagued by a range of security issues, including a separatist movement in the south and an uprising of Shia Houthi rebels in the north. There mounting fears that Yemen is becoming a leading al-Qaeda haven, with the high numbers of unemployed youths seen as potential recruits for Islamist militant groups. 'Tunisia-inspired' There have been a series of smaller protests in the lead up to Thursday's mass demonstrations. On Saturday, hundreds of Sanaa University students held competing protests on campus, with some calling for President Saleh to step down and others for him to remain in office. Over the weekend, Yemeni authorities arrested prominent rights activist, Tawakul Karman, accusing her of organising the anti-government protests. Her arrest sparked further protests in Sanaa. After her release from prison on Monday, she told CNN that there was a revolution taking place in her country inspired by Tunisia's so-called Jasmine Revolution. Protests in Tunisia have ended 23 years of President Zine al-Abidine Ben Ali's rule and ignited unrest elsewhere in the region, including Algeria and Egypt. President Saleh, a Western ally, became leader of North Yemen in 1978, and has ruled the Republic of Yemen since the north and south merged in 1990. He was last re-elected in 2006. Yemenis are angry over parliament's attempts to loosen the rules on presidential term limits, sparking opposition concerns that Mr Saleh might try to appoint himself president for life. BBC
