  1. While all assistance is welcome, in the end, Somalia needs to build a modern and capable army. Any real war will be fought by Somalis. Countries like Eritrea and Egypt will assist with weapons and training.
  2. There is no reason to be there. If Sland wants guarantors, impartial countries are needed. That said, Somalis as a nation are spoked, and rightfully so. Any negotiation can't be done with a man who gave a large chunk of Somali territory to an old adversary. The next Sland admin will be in a better position. And there is the issue of pro-union clans and even pro-Somaliland clans who now feel threatened by Muse's craziness.
  3. Every Southerner is wondering why the ambassador was kicked out, airspace closed, and contingency plans made for replacing Ethiopian troops. That's why people are suspicious of HSM, and why some think he knew about this deal.
  4. Abiy is their boy now till they can find a better replacement. The diplomatic corp hates the guy.
  5. Mostly statements which don't mean much This is the important one:
  6. I equally oppose the colonial borders on the Ethiopian and Kenya side. We fought wars to undo that. Unfortunately, we were not successful. And I will welcome anything that will help us to get our lands back.
  7. Xaaji, I fundamentally disagree with secession. That does not mean I have animosity toward reer Sland, to be specific, beesha dhexe. The only reason I would even mention colonial borders is that that's the basis of Sland's argument for independence. I don't agree with colonial borders whether it is on the land stolen from us or the ones drawn across the independent Somali territories. Furthermore, this attempt by Ethiopia to gain access (ownership) is an existential threat to all Somalis. To believe otherwise is akin to deluding yourself.
  8. To be fair, our friend, Xaaji, is still recovering from a traumatic event. I doubt he wants his people to live in Oromo-led Ethiopia.
  9. Egypt withdrew from Ethiopian Grand Dam negotiations. This might be a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for them to weaken Ethiopia for good or dismantle it.
  10. Listen to their language carefully! They are saying they want to undo a historical injustice and go back to the Red Sea as it is their absolute right. Some even claim Saylac and surrounding areas are historically Ethiopian much like the Jews claim the present Palestine is their land as promised by God. Others go further and say, the Red Sea is a gift to Ethiopia as Abynassia gave refugee to early Muslims.
  11. It means this....Abiy thinks it is divine right. There is no legal basis.
  12. 𝑻𝒉𝒆 𝑬𝒕𝒉𝒊𝒐𝒑𝒊𝒂 𝑩𝒓𝒐𝒂𝒅𝒄𝒂𝒔𝒕𝒊𝒏𝒈 𝑪𝒐𝒓𝒑𝒐𝒓𝒂𝒕𝒊𝒐𝒏 𝒂𝒓𝒕𝒊𝒄𝒖𝒍𝒂𝒕𝒆𝒅 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝒇𝒐𝒍𝒍𝒐𝒘𝒊𝒏𝒈 𝒊𝒏 𝒂𝒏 𝒊𝒏-𝒅𝒆𝒑𝒕𝒉 𝒂𝒏𝒂𝒍𝒚𝒔𝒊𝒔: Article 3 of the 1933 Montevideo Agreement emphasizes a fundamental diplomatic principle: 𝐚 𝐬𝐭𝐚𝐭𝐞'𝐬 𝐝𝐞𝐜𝐢𝐬𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐭𝐨 𝐠𝐫𝐚𝐧𝐭 𝐨𝐫 𝐝𝐞𝐧𝐲 𝐩𝐨𝐥𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐜𝐚𝐥 𝐫𝐞𝐜𝐨𝐠𝐧𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐢𝐬 𝐞𝐱𝐜𝐥𝐮𝐬𝐢𝐯𝐞𝐥𝐲 𝐢𝐭𝐬 𝐨𝐰𝐧, 𝐟𝐫𝐞𝐞 𝐟𝐫𝐨𝐦 𝐞𝐱𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐧𝐚𝐥 𝐢𝐧𝐟𝐥𝐮𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐞. This principle, which safeguards the inherent sovereignty of the recognition process, serves as the cornerstone of the Ethiopia-Somaliland agreement. It ensures that the determination of their diplomatic relations is solely the prerogative of the signatories, emphasizing autonomy and mutual benefit. In upholding this diplomatic ethos, Ethiopia and Somaliland affirm their commitment to a relationship built on mutual respect, sovereignty, and long-term prosperity.
