  6. It is lack of parental involvement that's to blame. Fantasies get out of hand cuz there is no one to riegh on it.Their behaviors could be corrected at young but the parents are too busy working, and the kids get alienated and start indulging themselves.
  7. This is very harsh sentence. Many others have gotten for using steriods, even the ones that admitted to it. Six-month jail sentence for Jones American Olympian Marion Jones has been sentenced to six months in prison for lying about steroid use and involvement in a drugs fraud case. The former sprinter pleaded guilty last October and was sentenced on Friday. Mother-of-two Jones, 32, had asked US District Judge Kenneth Karas to be "as merciful as a human being can be". But the judge imposed the maximum under her plea deal "because of the need for general deterrence and the need to promote respect for the law". Judge Karas said he believed a message needed to be sent to athletes who have abused drugs and as a result, have overlooked the values of "hard work, dedication, teamwork and sportsmanship". "Athletes in society have an elevated status, they entertain, they inspire, and perhaps, most important, they serve as role models." He added: "Nobody is above the legal obligation to tell the truth." Afterwards Jones said outside court: "I respect the judge's order, and I truly hope that people will learn from my mistakes." Lawyers for the defence had asked the judge to give the former sprinter probation or house arrest. Having already apologised, retired and given up her five Olympic medals, Jones has been punished enough, they argued. Jones sentencing included two years' probation and supervised release, during which she will be required to perform 800 hours of community service. She has been ordered to surrender on 11 March to begin her jail term. 'Deeply sorry' A tearful Jones asked the judge to consider her commitment to her two children, including an infant son she is still nursing. "Your honour, I absolutely realise the gravity of these offences and I am deeply sorry," she said. Lawyers for the prosecution had suggested any sentence between probation and six months would be fair. Once arguably the most famous female athlete in the world, Jones won gold in the 100m, 200m and 4x400m relay as well as bronzes in the long jump and 4x100m relay, at the Sydney Olympics in 2000. While her charisma and big smile won her a global fan base, her success on the track coupled with photogenic looks won her lucrative endorsements. But she suffered a spectacular fall from glory last October, admitting lying to a federal investigator in November 2003 when she denied using performance-enhancing drugs. She admitted using a steroid between September 2000 and July 2001. Tearful apology Jones also pleaded guilty to lying to federal investigators in 2003 about a separate cheque fraud case involving her former boyfriend, sprinter Tim Montgomery, the father of her son, Monty. Montgomery and several others have been convicted in that scam. Judge Karas had sought advice as to whether he could go beyond the six-month maximum sentence suggested in the plea deal. "The offences here are serious. They each involve lies made three years apart," he said on Friday, adding that Jones had made "not a one-off mistake... but a repetition in an attempt to break the law". He said he did not believe a statement by Jones in October when she said she did not realise she was taking steroids until after the 2000 Olympic Games. "That is very difficult to believe, that a top-notch athlete... would not be keenly aware of what he or she put in her body," the judge said. Jones, who returned her medals even before the International Olympic Committee ordered her to do so, has since had her name expunged from the record books. Hers was one of a number of high-profile doping cases involving top American athletes that have prompted the US Olympic Committee to team up with Major League Baseball and the National Football League with a new initiative aimed at combating drug use in US sport. 15. Malaysian Health Minister Chua Soi Lek has admitted that he is the man who features in two widely circulated DVDs of an unmarried couple having sex. He said he had apologised to the prime minister and other ruling party leaders but would not resign, and his own wife and children had accepted his apology. Mr Chua said he had taken no part in the making of the DVD recordings, one of them said to be almost an hour long. The video is CCTV footage taken in a hotel, according to one newspaper. It is the latest in a series of difficulties to confront the administration of Prime Minister Abdullah Badawi, who is expected to call an election in the coming weeks. According to Malaysia's Star newspaper, copies of the DVDs were initially left at various locations in the town of Muar, in Johor State, on Saturday "for people to pick up". 'It was me' Mr Chua made his admission hours after the Star reported that the two DVDs were being widely distributed in Johor, his home state. "I am the man in the tape," Mr Chua, 60, told reporters. "The girl is a personal friend." "I would like to emphasise I did not make the tape myself," he added. "Who [did] this is not important. What is most important is that my family, wife and children have accepted my apology." According to the Star, the DVDs are believed to be CCTV recordings made in a hotel suite. The hotel and the date are reportedly unknown. As health minister, Mr Chua has advocated giving out free condoms to reduce the spread of HIV, in the face of religious opposition.
  16. pair of twins who were adopted by separate families as babies got married without knowing they were brother and sister, a peer told the House of Lords. A court annulled the British couple's union after they discovered their true relationship, Lord Alton said. The peer - who was told of the case by a High Court judge involved - said the twins felt an "inevitable attraction". He said the case showed how important it was for children to be able to find out about their biological parents. Details of the identities of the twins involved have been kept secret, but Lord Alton said the pair did not realise they were related until after their marriage. 'Truth will out' The former Liberal Democrat MP raised the couple's case during a House of Lords debate on the Human Fertility and Embryology Bill in December. "They were never told that they were twins," he told the Lords. "They met later in life and felt an inevitable attraction, and the judge had to deal with the consequences of the marriage that they entered into and all the issues of their separation." He told the BBC News website that their story raises the wider issue of the importance of strengthening the rights of children to know the identities of their biological parents. "If you start trying to conceal someone's identity, sooner or later the truth will out," he said. "And if you don't know you are biologically related to someone, you may become attracted to them and tragedies like this may occur." Pam Hodgkins, chief executive officer of the charity Adults Affected by Adoption (NORCAP) said there had been previous cases of separated siblings being attracted to each other. "We have a resistance, a very strong incest taboo where we are aware that someone is a biological relative," she said. "But when we are unaware of that relationship, we are naturally drawn to people who are quite similar to ourselves. 'Incredibly rare' "And of course there is unlikely to be anyone more similar to any individual than their sibling." Mo O'Reilly, director of child placement for the British Association for Adoption and Fostering, said the situation was traumatic for the people involved, but incredibly rare. "Thirty or 40 years ago it would have been more likely that twins be separated and, brought up without knowledge of each other," she said. Today, however, adopted children grow up with a greater knowledge of their birth families - and organisations try to place brothers and sisters together. If that were not possible, the siblings would still have some form of contact with each other. "This sad case illustrates why, over the last 20-30 years, the shift to openness in adoption was so important," Ms O'Reilly added.
  17. Talk about misplaced priorities!
  18. I concur Xiin. Hopefully his demise won't lead to Puntland's downfall. Peace..How does one vote out, how do you put, "strong man". And nobody is justifying kidnappings or robberies, but how could one trust Cadde to fix this problem when he is very person who let deteriorate to this extent. A monkey could do a better job. They should have given the job to Ina Hashi.
  19. xiin...It is best he steps aside, and let those who erected this entity work the problems out. I don't think anyone wants war, but the longer he stays in power the more likely that will happen.
  20. ^^I don't understand why you defending this man? His incompetency is threatening this Puntland's stability which is the only thing that was going for it. And isn't his time up anyway. Out with uusaay.
