I heard this story about a somali and an italian who were friends back home. The somali guy used to drink, smoke and indulge in every opportunity of haram activity jus like the italian.........but he never missed a prayer and would put his life on the line to defend his religion. So some people tried to give the italian advice waxee ku dheheen "War ninyahow maad soo muslintid?" And He said to them "If the islam you're talking about is the same as Hebel's (his friend)islam then sure i am going to become muslim. Its a true story i heard and its supposed to be a joke. You should go to the mosque more often dont worry about the other people, dantaada is more important. And if you are not happy with the way these people conduct themselves show them..give them an example through your actions. Dont let their vice get in your way. Something similar happened to me when i first started to become interested in the deen, i dismissed my old crew and became friends with a group of shiekh girls at my then college. I was so happy at first and thought "what a relief" no more Dhoocil business iyo is qabsi. Then i witnessed the same attitude was also present in some of my newly found peers but in a mild way, and got disappointed. Nevertheless i stuck around and now Mash'allah i mostly see the good things about them. So the thing is we are all human beings and nobody is perfect we have to strive to better ourselves. First within ourselves and gradually we'll start to notice the great conduct of those around us. Mash'Allah red cross!!----->way to go. I hope you will always maintain your interest.

Dont like to get involved in talks about somali politics but i am going to briefly update you, there are jails in mogadishu but you have to pay to keep the criminal in. Western tv documentaries are able to depict anything in a way that suits their agenda. And mogadishu isn't that dangerous or for that matter more dangerous than any other war torn country on the planet. The americans have a grudge against us after what happened in the 1990's and unless they are gaining something from the policies of the new government which they are going to support they will not help in its formation. PS. they feel threatened by the somali ppl as they don't take shidh from a gal no matter how well off materialistically unlike other countries in Africa. The prospect of seeing people with such mentality in an advanced state isn't very encouraging for the west.

  7. Wow this seems to be an interesting event ibtisam. So the BBC panorama is going to be there meaning it will be aired on tv? If thats the case i cant go i am not ready to become famous yet. I will watch it though!! Insh'Allah And of course if i end up going i would probably get stuck with the phrase "you people are wrong.wrong.wrong!!" they'd probably call out "security!!".

Just knowing that they know that you can kick their a$$ if you wanted to will give you enough satisfaction. No? LOOOL! Informante ha iga cabsiinin nooh?

  10. Curling waterfall Anything that i say in this forum is indeed based on my opinion unless i otherwise state and provide evidence. i can assure you i am under no pretence whatsoever and feel no need to do so. By saying that i think, a woman riding a bike isn't enhancing the islamic adaab of a woman, i dont think i am disrespecting the religion or misinforming the crowd. Nevertheless its a good thing that you are patrolling the coasts, jus make sure you understand what is being said properly next time. And another thing there are some things that conform to good islamic morals and that aren't specifically stated in the Quran or hadith. Lazie girl The opinion, whether it is from a guy or girl it doesn't make any difference to me as long as i agree. I know i am a woman. so what? I am not a femminist and dont agree with the notion anyway. And as muslims we should be concerned to make things easier for those around us. x_quisit Yes it is about how you carry yourself. i dont see the practice of religion jus as praying 5 times a day, not drinking and fasting etc.... It is more than that there is also an overall attitude that comes with it, all minor things count. Well sorry if i came accross as patronising and flexed with "the new trend" i am simply enthusiastic about the application of the deen to modern life and look forward to discuss similar issues with you all in the future.

So drop it, if you dont like the opinions of someone jus hala hadlin nooh? how hard is that? There is no need to mould what ive said to suit your sarcastic mood. Ive wondered a few times why there are 680 somthng guests in SOL everytime yet something like 40 or less people post topics and posts. Well i get it now. 1.Cos anyone who desagrees with your opinion instead of saying theirs politely, will most likely retrieve a phrase or two and make fun of it adding a few sarcastic notions, twist the whole meaning etc.. 2.Everything in SOL must be skweaky perfect including spelling, grammar, terminology and opinion (must conform to other members own.)otherwise..... Well what is the point of exchanging views(having a forum) if we all have the same opinions? And aren't willing to listen, or respect others views? Forget about this man am out.

Secondly i am not a shekhad and haven't actually claimed to be one. Lets jus say i like to read around and widen my horizons. Thirdly READ carefully what has been said b4.The discussion is over and closed waad soo dahdai.
  13. Raganimo Somalia is made out to be very dangerous when we are in west. Its jus ka dardarid its not dangerous at all(apart from few exceptions), i am talking about personal experience here. Because i have been there and seen it... all the neighbours knew we came from europe, our kids used to play with the locals yet Alhamdulillah there were no set ups. I would say it can actually be safer than brixton depending on the contacts and links you have there. Like if you are related or are in good terms with respected "mafia" in the area, so as to speak. I've been to wardhiigle nope not dangerous. If you look somali and walk on the street and arent wearing bling bling.... why would people aproach you you are jus like anybody else. got it?
  14. x_quisit We talked about all this, we are going round in circles so ive picked an article for you to read, it is related to the spirit of this discussion. woman biking = not very islamic. Modesty is such a ‘quiet’ characteristic, that perhaps nobody thinks about it very much. What are modest people like? They are self-effacing, and humble; they do not wish to draw too much attention to themselves. They feel embarrassed when they are given praise, and genuinely do not really feel they have done all that much to deserve it, for everything they do is no more than their duty and their delight, in serving God. They would hate to be picked out for praise above their fellows, or pushed forward into the limelight, shown off, or made to perform ‘party pieces’ for the applause of others. Modesty also implies a personal and physical shyness and reticence, as opposed to a wish to flaunt themselves for their physical charms. In this day and age, when it seems to be taken for granted that young women wish to walk down the streets of town wearing garments that cover little more than their underwear does, and when everything seems geared up to a lifestyle that encourages females to make themselves as sexually attractive as possible, and to feel failures if they are not turning heads, women who are not like that, and do not wish to be, are regarded by some as being rather odd. Maybe I should move to London! No no trust me you're better off there, park = good. Hey? what about nonsomali men?? JonnyB Even life itself seems to be un-islamic for some. Do i smell sarcasmo jonny? Do you mind explaning where your "islamic feminists and secular feminists unite" thread fits in all this? And yes very wise decision stick to the.. what was that again?..........yes...thinking human beings. (in whatever thinking they may be into) Shezerade Pure genius. Any more nuggets of cr*pdom? Girlfrieeend! am glad you spotted the genius in me unfortunately many fail to do so!! You see.... you're missing the point though, i am not here to propagate how smart and inteLLectually able i am. I am comfortably expressin what i think.

  16. Bishaaro, the lower your gaze ayat is for the starers women and men. As women we should take precautions like dress decently and avoid any funky activity then any sin starers might earn it is not your fault you're covered!
  17. Originally posted by x_quizit: Simply, I did darling, perhaps u can enlighten the (s)hercules, im sure my brawn isn't mighter than my brain 1-u said it just "bothers" them- because 2-u went on to say, the "improper dress code" and the butt in the air may bother them, I asked why ? didnt get a response. Which can only mean, a woman "improperly dressed with all her assets hanging out will leave herself to be prey to those that may assess women as only sexual objects. U've supported my argument by just pointing out her physical. Well if you leave the which can only mean bit out and what follows, as that was your translation of what i said we can agree that there was no contradiction so far. My post did not refer to a xalimo vs. farax riding bikes and mortorbikes discussion nor about sexual objects. It referred to women riding bikes as not very islamic. 2-u went on to say, the "improper dress code" and the butt in the air may bother them, I asked why ? didnt get a response. Yes that could "bother" guys.....why?.....isn't the answer obvious? I still dont see the contradiction.
  18. x_quisit darling, i havent contradicted my self read the post again hopefully you'll get it this time. you macho female --------->go hercules go go. sorry jus too sleepy.

Thats sad i guess not all somalis insinuate that. I was never allowed to play football outside but riding bikes was never a problem.
  20. Originally posted by x_quizit: ^^ So women shouldn't ride because it might bother guys? bwahahahahaha! Its funny how a woman on a bike can intimidate a farax into thinking, first a bike, next she'll want a motorcycle, the nerve! Oh my goodness!! This is proving to be more difficult to explain then i thought should be needed. I wasn't talking about the competition of the sexes here. I've used the word "bother" instead of "sexually provoking". Think about the position of the body when riding a bike.......first you have to wear trousers as you cant ride a bike with a skirt. And second your *** is half way in the air. Cant believe ive jus said that.

There is something un-modest about it! That is, as they say, my personalment gut-feeling. Devils advocate, shezerade and castro: I dont see what's exceptionally amusing about geeljire's remark. As muslims especially women there are certain etiquettes that must be observed when in public (like laughing aloud, speaking aloud, shouting from one side of the street to the other). I found the comment useful bcos it confirmed the suspicion that i thought it was provoking. And now in fact i think it is unislamic too bcos if it bothers one guy then it must bother others.
  23. Originally posted by Castro: ^ They're both absolutely untrue. Where are you hearing this stuff from? In places like these and friends etc... http://www.apfn.org/apfn/moon.htm Google it! 24. Originally posted by juba: sorry somalia is not a tourist spot, its not much of anything actually. No sis there is much of everthing really. There are some intriguing sites if thats what you mean. I've been to this city on the edge of the beach and the houses were like 150 years old, 2 floors each, still standing, people living in there and i havnt noticed bullet holes.(you might think am bragging, but no i am not) We were told the walls of the houses were made of not cement but guess what?...... caano geel. The architecture of those houses was amazing they were like ancient style i would say. No windows though very small holes on the upper side of walls 15 cm width and length. If you end up going to xamar....ask to be taken to xamar weyne thats the name of the xaafad. Now how inspiring would that be for a bunch of tourists? There are also other places that are more tropical like "Afgooye".Very nice.
