Brother welcome to SOL, the question you posed here is neither new nor that relevant at this time. Puntland state is a huge land area of Somalia. It comprises around 40% of the country with the three largest regions of the republic, Bari, Sanaag, Sool and Nugaal and North Mudug. It has developed rapidly relative to other Somali region, one only needs to look at the city of Bossaso and its continues prosperity. Puntlans is self sufficient and its economy is not dependent on neither the south or the secessionist NW. The answer to the question is no, Puntland does not need to break away from Somalia because unity is essential and deeply held by the majority of the people of Puntland. However while we wait we must continue to develop our state and take responsibility for our security and the creation of wealth. By doing this we will be able to be an example and have the capacity to deter any "attack" as you put it by any group within Somalia and abroad. Thus do not compromise on the ideals of the Somali republic, the central importance of unity and that our problems are man made and with due time will be able to be solved. Anyone who states, Puntland is not peaceful is a fool and a liar, it enjoys greater stability and peace than any region in East Africa, where else in Somalia have you ever seen leaders loose elections peacefully? Puntland claims and has the authority over the areas of SSCMBN, the traditional elders and population support Puntland state within those areas, Puntland reps have presence in those regions from Dr Salebaan in Buhudle, to Gen Ilka-Jiirs drive in SANAAG highlights who has the support of the population. We do not control nor claim South Mudug, you can ask anyone of that.

TwistedDont get confused Puntland has authority over those areas except with South Galkacyu which is not part of Puntland. Authority comes from the people and the elders of SSC took part in the election and are part of the Puntland admin.

Che, Al Shabaab were the true fighters and they did not compromise and risked it all. The problem here is they must now compromise and put in place a lasting peace, or it will be like winning the war and losing the peace. They must compromise and so should everyone in the capital to ensure we don’t have clan cleansing of the 1990s kind.

^^^If one group takes over it will fine and dandy, the problem is if there are competing forces with different interests with heavily armed militias then it can be a recipe for disaster. Al Shabaab & Ras Kamboni might wage a war on say the AMISOM forces. This might suck in those groups who are for the process in Djibouti, say Sharif Ahmed’s group, and in Somalia the clan issue is never far away hence IndaCade and his group might side with Sharif Ahmed or might side with Al Shabaab, they might be a third force fighting under the banner of Ahlu Sunna[Clan]. Thus what Qaybdeed and others are saying is we are in dangerous waters because clans and armed groups who are politically opposed to each other are taking positions.
