  1. ^^ What win? he lost his home, base and many fighters, and has yet to regain any ground even the media war is notgoing well for him. Indeed he is Al Shabaab, confused as he'll but unlike the souh it's he who is being hunted. The fighting will continue and he claims will continue, but the fact is slowly the security forces are taking him out without much issue, there has not been a single incident in any of Puntlands major cities.
  2. Breakaway Somali state claims win against Al-Qaeda (AFP) – 2 days ago MOGADISHU — Security forces from the Somali breakaway state of Puntland said Wednesday they had taken control of the last base used by Al-Qaeda-linked militants led by local warlord Mohamed Said Atom. Puntland forces launched their assault on Sunday, nearly two weeks after a similar deadly offensive targeting the group of several hundred fighters led by Atom, who is on a UN Security Council watchlist. The two sides briefly exchanged gunfire before the Islamists fled the village where they had been based near the Galgala mountains in northern Somalia, senior Puntland security officer Mohamed Abdirahman told AFP. "We have taken control of the last base where the terrorist leader trained his militants and if God wills the war will soon be over after we arrest the militia commander," Abdirahman told AFP by phone. Another security officer, Lieutenant Colonel Omar Abdulahi, said the Puntland forces had lost two soldiers during Wednesday's clashes and killed seven militants. However, militant commander Abdikarin Ahmed Beynah denied the claim and said instead that his forces were besieging the Puntland troops. "The enemy forces are trapped in the mountainous area where they encountered tough resistance and for the time being, I tell you they are in the middle of nowhere with our fighters besieging them," Beynah told AFP by phone. "They lost many soldiers and many more will die in the course," he added, saying he was near the Galgala mountains. Witnesses said residents had fled the fighting. "Transport access is becoming difficult around Galgala and most civilians have fled but still there are some who are trapped in the area with the fighting still sporadically going on," said local resident Ali Nasir. "All we can know so far is that Puntland forces are advancing on the strongholds of Atom and without encountering strong resistance," he added.
  3. Government forces in northern Somalia's stable Puntland region clashed with militants near Galgala town again, Radio Garowe reports. Friday's clashes erupted after a group of militants attacked Puntland forces guarding a makeshift base at Madashon town, formerly a militant training base seized by Puntland forces earlier this week. Madashon is located 20km west of Galgala, the militants' former stronghold now under Puntland government control. The militants, led by Mohamed Said Atom, who is on a U.N. Security Council watch-list, have been the target of a Puntland government offensive since last week. At least 9 people were killed during the clashes, including two Puntland soldiers and 7 militants, according to security sources. The fighting erupted after the militants opened fire on Puntland forces guarding the Madashon compound, sparking a deadly firefight where the militant attack was repelled and "many militants" were killed. The militants are hiding out in a hilly forested area, as Puntland forces continue to hunt down them down. Puntland's government has accused the militants of ties to Al Qaeda-linked Al Shabaab insurgents in southern Somalia, who are fighting to topple the Western-backed TFG in Mogadishu led by President Sheikh Sharif Ahmed. Last week, the militants lost their main base at Galgala after government forces seized the town. Puntland officials say the Galgala militants take orders from Al Shabaab and are responsible for bombings and assassinations in Bossaso, Puntland's commercial capital along the Gulf of Aden. Puntland declared regional autonomy under Federal Somalia in 1998 and has been relatively stable since. The region has a functioning government, with a civil service and elections, and its own security forces to uphold the law. GAROWE ONLINE

  10. Seismic Program In the Nugaal Block in Puntland, Somalia, AOC acquired more than 4,000 kilometers of existing good quality 2D data which was recorded in the late 1980's. This has enabled the Company to work up an inventory of drilling prospects from which the first exploration well locations will be selected. During 2008, in the Dharoor Block of Puntland, Somalia, the acquisition of 782 kilometers of good quality 2D seismic (comprised of 15 grid lines) was completed. The Company has combined 555 kilometers of previously acquired data into the seismic database and is currently being mapped to finalize exploration well locations. The Company is currently planning to commence drilling of one exploration well in the Dharoor Block before the end of 2010.
  11. Exploration Drilling The Company has completed a comprehensive interpretation of newly acquired 2D seismic data over the Dharoor Block in Puntland (Somalia). Several large prospects have been identified. Africa Oil and its joint venture partners have agreed to initially drill one prospect in Dharoor. The well is expected to commence drilling before the end of 2010. The Company holds a 65% working interest in this project. 12. The Nugaal and Dharoor Blocks are located in the Nugaal and Darin Mesozoic basins in northern Somalia. The Mesozoic basins are interpreted to be extensions of the Marib-Shawba and Sayun-Masila Basins of Yemen. Prior to the opening of the Gulf of Aden in the Oligocene-Miocene, these areas were contiguous and similar sedimentary sequences and structural styles are likely.
  13. ^^^Indeed, they should build what ever they want, and this is no more than a zoning issue, but the media is manufacturing fake outrage which will no doubt have dire consequences.
  14. ^^Who is being an apologist? Also if the Mosque is there, why the need for a new one with a swimming pool, gym and sauna?
  15. ^^^Yeah its a no win situation. But I dont belive they should back down.
  16. Naxar, adeer lets say that we are wrong me and C&H are out of line. Why this girl, and why now? In the deep recess of your mind, even you can see that this can be a ploy by the war supporting mass media to humanize the situation. Remember the wikileaks and the impact they have had on the perception ordinary Americans have of the war in Afghanistan. No doubt a smart fellow like you can appreciate that this war is nearly decade old; people are tired, the US is in economic turmoil. Thus the timing is suspect, and if you really want to know whats going on in this terrible war all you need to do is read the wikileaks.
  17. Nothing wrong with having a Masjid at that site, but nothing special about it either, They should have weighed the pro's and cons, you know there will be heat everywhere specially with the right wing media and their racist, xenophobic outburst. It was the blacks before, now you have people of different color, who worship differently with exotic names like Hussain. Easy target for the every angry American natives.
  18. ^^^As long as she is a girl then its ok. The problem arises when a bearded dude starts pretending to be one of our sisters. Garowe is famous now days.
  19. ^^^So only your alter ego is a girl? Thanks for explaining..
  20. Ground Zero mosque plans 'fuelling anti-Muslim protests across US Religious leaders warn of Islamophobia surge with hate speech and opposition to new Islamic centres across America The battle over plans to build a mosque near the site of the 9/11 terrorist attacks in New York is fuelling a surge in anti-Muslim protests across the US, including opposition to new Islamic centres from California to Georgia. Religious leaders and civil rights activists warn that a tide of Islamophobia that has swept the country since the destruction of the twin towers is being heightened by political exploitation of the New York dispute before nationwide elections and is increasingly bound up with hostility to immigrants and other forms of racism. They say the outpouring of condemnation at the "outrage" of a mosque close to the "hallowed ground" of the World Trade Centre site also goes hand in hand with the increasing acceptability of what they describe as hate speech. A Florida church, Dove World Outreach Centre, is planning a "burn the Qur'an" day on September 11 and has already outraged Muslims by planting a sign on its front lawn that reads: Islam is the Devil. The church's senior pastor, Terry Jones, has said he is "exposing Islam for what it is". "It is a violent and oppressive religion that is trying to masquerade itself as a religion of peace, seeking to deceive our society," the church said. "Islam is a lie based upon lies and deceptions and fear. In Muslim countries, if you preach the gospel or convert to Christianity – you will be killed. That is the type of religion it is." A leading Muslim educational institution, al-Azhar's Supreme Council in Egypt, has accused the Florida church of "stirring up hate and discrimination" and called on other American churches to condemn it. Many religious leaders have spoken out against Muslim-bashing, including rabbis in New York who have defended the plans for the mosque two blocks from the site of the 9/11 attacks, which would not be visible from Ground Zero. But John Esposito, director of the Centre for Muslim-Christian Understanding at Georgetown University, said many Americans shared Jones's views. He said the dispute over the proposed mosque had given cover for more open hostility unleashed after the 9/11 attacks that was evident during the last presidential election when some of Barack Obama's opponents attempted to portray him as a Muslim. "The World Trade Centre thing has shown that what has been up to now seen as a local issue has gone global and provided an umbrella so that suddenly people feel freer to go public with their objections to Muslims," he said. "Historically we've had problems in Mississippi or Georgia or New York or wherever when someone wants to establish a mosque. "The cover for opposition used to be that people will say: we're not really prejudiced but it'll affect the traffic in the area, not facing the fact that it is very common if you have a significant number of Jews or Protestants or Catholics to expect that they're going to want to have a synagogue or a church and chances are the town's going to go along with it." But today, Americans increasingly no longer shy away from saying they oppose mosques on the grounds that Muslims are a threat or different. In New York, a group called the American Freedom Defence Initiative is placing adverts on New York buses showing a plane flying into one of the World Trade Centre towers and what it calls a "Mega Mosque" and asking "Why There?". Azeem Khan, of the Islamic Circle of North America, said the bus adverts promoted fear and hatred. "People want Islam and Muslims to be the boogieman right now," he said. The issue is increasingly being exploited by politicians in the run-up to November's mid-term elections. Opposition to a mosque in Murfreesboro, Tennessee, intensified after Republican candidates for Congress and state governor made opposition part of their campaigns. Sarah Palin, the former vice presidential candidate, has been a vocal opponent of the controversial New York mosque. Other prominent politicians have cast the net wider. Newt Gingrich, the Republican former speaker of the House of Representatives, who is thought likely to make a run for president, has warned that Muslims are attempting to impose sharia law in the US and that it poses a "mortal threat to freedom" in America. Gingrich said that he would push for legislation to prevent states from adopting sharia law even though none are proposing it and there is no likely prospect of it happening. Esposito said politicians' fearmongering over Muslims was similar to exploitation of fears that the country was being swamped by a tide of illegal immigrants. "Islamophobia is not just about religion. It's about people who are of colour and a whole set of presuppositions about these people," he said. "You can see it not only with Muslims but with Mexicans, people who look Hispanic. Now we have hard data from Gallup and Pew that demonstrate in America how integrated the vast majority of Muslims are – economically, politically and religiously. And yet a significant number of Americans can be appealed to in what is nothing less than hate speech, the same hate speech directed against immigrants."
