Nigeria ready to deploy troops to Somalia 21 Feb 21, 2007 - 6:38:16 AM ABUJA, Nigeria, 02/21 - Nigeria will deploy a battalion of troops (850 soldiers) which it pledged to contribute to the African peacekeeping initiative in Somalia by the middle of April, Army Spokesman, Col. Ayo Olaniyan, said Tuesday. "The Nigerian government`s decision to contribute troops to the Horn of Africa peace effort is consistent with her foreign policy, which has Africa as its centre-piece," Olaniyan said in the capital city of Abuja. "This is in keeping with with her peace engendering role in the continent and the world at large," he added. Nigeria had pledged to contribute troops towards the African Union`s 8,000 strong peacekeeping force needed to stabilise Somalia after the routing of the Union of Islamic Courts by the Ethiopian- backed forces of the Transitional Federal Government of Somalia. Olaniyan said the planned deployment would fulfil Nigeria`s pledge to contribute troops to the African Mission in Somalia (AMISOM). The battalion is drawn from the Army`s 231 Battalion in Biu, northern Borno State. Olaniyan said the troops were currently being trained at the Nigerian Armed Forces Simulation Centre in Jaji, northern Kaduna State. The Nigerian Battalion is expected to join nine other battalions from various African countries, who are billed to participate in the peacekeeping initiative. Source: Angola Press -
^^^Xii, way to clever for anyone here, he predicted using the sage Tsun Zu the victory of the courts, now with his wisdom he says the TFG will not outlast the old man. Then he adds his layman starbucks inside info and mentions the "Ethiopians" anything new? No..

Nigerian battalion ready for deployment to Somalia Lagos, Nigeria, 01/29 - A battalion of Nigerian soldiers is on standby for deployment to Somalia as part of an African Union Peace Support Mission in the East African nation, according to Nigerian defence spokesman, Colonel Mohammed Yussuf. "Once the final deployment order is received, we will be on our way," Yussuf told PANA in Lagos at the weekend. He said the troops, numbering between 770 and 1,000, had been trained in readiness for the mission, which undertake tasks aimed at providing security for the transitional federal institutions and institutional capacity building. The Peace and Security Council (PSC) of the AU recently announced it would meet to finalise plans for the deployment of the mission. The AU had stressed the need to deploy the Mission urgently in order to build on the current momentum to stabilize the situation in Somalia. A 13-day offensive by Ethiopian troops backing the Transitional Government of Somalia has helped dislodged the Union of Islamic Courts (UIC) from the Mogadishu and other areas, and paved the way for Somalia President Abdullahi Yusuf Ahmed to go to the Somali capital for the first time since coming to office. Analysts said it was urgent to deploy the Africa Peace Support Mission, in view of the fact that the Ethiopians troops had started withdrawing from Somalia, as well as the need to prevent the Islamists from regrouping and launching an insurgency. The UN Security Council has also expressed support for the speedy deployment of the African mission -
^^^Taliban, you are far too clever for that saxib, Yusf was elected by the reps of the Somali people through a peace conference that took two years of difficult discussions. Xasan Dahir and Sharif Ahmed came through the barrel of th gun, no one chosse them, and no one even competed with them, they came through stealth and left much the same way.. You sound like the Qadsiye.com editor, fairy tale land, Xasan Dahir is noted for his clan occupation of lower Shabbele and Sharif Ahmed was a subordinate of Warlord Mohamed Dheere, but you know that.
-
^^^I must commend you for that come back, you have style saxib, though if one is honest does it matter where one meets one? If those Muslim leaders never wanted to meet him he would not have been invited in their countries? Ghadafi sold it, even I was disapointed with the timing. As for Sharif & Xasan Dahir they and their clan courts have lost everything, let alone be leaders of Somalia.
-
What about the AMIR of the two Mosques?
-
What about Omar AL Bashir? Here is a pic from 2004..
-
^^^lol. I do like you saxib, Sharif Ahmed and Xasan Dahir where leaders of what nation? As for GHadafi, not only did he meet Blair after the invasion he gave all his WMD's to him after Saddam was captured...Oh you want proof here it is...
-
^^^It does not but any Somali leader now and after will always have to deal with the leader of the UK, due to the fact of the large community residing here. Anyhow is Yusuf the first Muslim leader to meet Blair, since the Iraq invasion.
-
^Blair country also has given a home to more Somali's than any Arab, or Muslim nation has. Give credit were its due

^^^Ok thus when these people are rounded up, they will be shott in mass. Most likely those with the most guns win in any shoot out, as has been the case of late. Any how they have killed no TFG or Ethiopian soldeirs, the cowads are going after soft targets, local women and children and munnicipal officials the loss of the looted properties and farms and occupied territories not to mention the end of the charcoal trade has been devestating for the criminals. -

Duke's answer to when will Mogadishu security imrpove???????
General Duke replied to General Duke's topic in Politics
Take it as it is Mogadishu population are supporting the TFG and its programm of securing the whole country and brining the state back. This talk of agreement, who is to agree with? Galaal, Abdiqasin and others who opposed the TFG are on board, not a single clan has spoken out, who should one talk to? The men who are hiding in shadows, sending mortars into civilian areas? The issue, is of policing and security and not about another meaningless conference that will only benefit some NGOs. Kindly stop with the bull, all the TFG leaders are now residing in Somalia the parliment is in Baidoa, the interior minister, police chief, chief of NSS, Mayor and his staff are alll in Mogadishu Thus lets not make ani fibs. -
