France had, in addition, two Black strikers in Thierry Henry and David Trezeguet, a talented Black attacking midfield player, Christian Karembeu, and a Basque left-back, Biexente Lizarazu -- and even captain Didier Deschamps is half Savoyard. When this phenomenal band of Frenchmen won the greatest sporting event in the world on home soil, the little-France mentality of Le Pen and his ilk was savaged by a rampant wolf of ebullient footballing energy, producing a joyous national pride that owed nothing to the hate-filled fantasies of the Right, and everything to a cosmopolitan nationalism of the Left. It is no coincidence -- no coincidence at all -- that the triumph of these Mestizo-Frenchman took place just in advance of the satisfying implosion of the Front National, and the disastrous decline of the political fortunes of Le Pen himself. Some Comrades Turtle (O'Neill and Sandbrook among them) found themselves, in that magic Summer of 1998, in the town of Montpelier in southern France. They write: "We were playing football on the dusty pitch of a predominantly Arab housing project on the outskirts of the town with a group of delightfully skillful young kids. (Indeed, so skillful was one of these young lads, that he managed to score a goal from a corner, with his the inside of his left foot, having stepped over the ball and then spun around, sending it careering off with enough spin to bend it into the back of the net -- undoubtedly the finest footballing feat we'd ever seen). In our broken French, we discussed football with them (the level was basically "Quel bout!" and "J'adore Cantona"), and every one of them said he loved Zidane (and Djorkaeff), and that one day they, like he, would play for their country -- for France. Their little sisters, playing close by, all had their faces painted in the blue, white and red of the French tricolour, with the letters Z-Z scrawled on their foreheads and cheeks in mark of respect to their hero." Tahliil. You seem to be insulting our intelect. The Mogadishu wars have been on going for 16 years. The TFG did not instigate this new round of fighting, it was attacked in Baidoa. When it came to Mogadishu it was these groups who started the mortar and land mine attacks. I remmeber you did not have any qualms about such action and did not care much for the dead civilians. When for three months they did not listen the TFG had no option but to engage this group. You had no problem with Ahmed Diriye and others when they were inciting clan hatred and swearing to fight to the last man. What changed now? Why are they willing to meet the governemnt they yesterday denied existed? Thus saxib, it is your group who did not care about the welfare of the people when you supported the suicide bombings, mortars and landmine attacks inside Mogadishu. The TFG did not chnage it was this group that has after the fact many died. So hand over the guns, the people need peace and development.

Since the defeat of the anti governemnt groups in Mogadishu there has been a remarkable turn around in the attitude of the entire clans of Mogadishu and their reps. A few days back we had the clan of Guriceel sending a delegation led by their Ugas, Culusow and MP Seeraar who once did not "recognise" the governemnt. Today we have the reps of the entire Cadaado clan including the famous Ahmed Diriye who changed his tune. No longer does his group rely on meeting unknown "Tigray officers". Each clan has come out in support of the TFG, ending any violent activity and willing to participate in the upcoming national reconciliation conference. The northern Mogadishu clans has for some time been fully behind the TFG, now we have the remaining clans coming on board. One must comment the TFG, which has not seeked revenge on its enemies and which is willing to meet any stakeholder at any venue at any given time. Now the Duke will provide the news of the day.

Abdullahi Yusuf is a visionary leader the first man to fight the regime everyone fought. He was a leader who brought stability to his region and became the founder of Puntland state. He is now dealing with the difficult task of restoring the state. A`legend in his own life time. Thats our President long may he live..
