Somaliland Government Expects Agreement With Ophir Energy ‘Within Weeks’ november 25, 2011 3:20 AM EST Somaliland, the semi-autonomous region in northern Somalia, expects to conclude a project- sharing agreement with Ophir Energy Plc, amid efforts to develop the territory’s potential oil deposits, an official said. The accord is currently being approved by Somaliland’s Council of Ministers and will be followed by the granting of approval to begin seismic surveys, Mining, Energy and Water Resources Minister Hussein Abdi Dualeh said in an interview. “The process should be finalised within a few weeks,” Dualeh said by phone from Hargeisa, the capital, today. Somaliland announced earlier this month that it will abandon efforts to reengage investors who left more than two decades ago at the outbreak of civil war in Somalia. Instead, the region initiated an “open door policy”, inviting potential investors to approach the government about onshore and offshore oil exploration. Tullow Oil Plc (TLW), the London-based explorer with the most licenses in Africa, expressed an interest in a licence and “indicated that they plan to visit Somaliland,” Dualeh said. Tullow officials are due to arrive in the country on Nov. 28 for further talks, he said. Ophir, along with companies including U.K.-based Asante Oil and Prime Resources, hold exploration licenses that have been issued since 2003. Ophir is expected to complete seismic surveys by May 2013, Dualeh said. “Once this is done, we expect to them to go to the next exploration period, which would require Ophir to drill some wells,” he said. Independence Somaliland’s previous attempts to encourage exploration in the region foundered because of perceptions among investors that the country has the same security concerns as Somalia. The former British colony declared independence from Somalia in 1991, following the ouster of former Somali dictator Mohammed Siad Barre. No sovereign state has formally recognized the area as independent. Investor concerns about security are misplaced, said Hassan Mohamoud, a spokesman for Asante Oil, which has a staffed office in Hargeisa. “The communities are aware of the benefits that come with oil and they are the ones inviting companies to explore,” Mohamoud said in an interview yesterday. “The risk is minimal.”

Carafaat you are completely missing the point here no one said people can't coexist and work together on key issues but there are or should be mutual interest for both people despite somalilands border dispute with somalias clan enclave of puntland. The two countries have zero diplomatic relationship that said africa s geopolitical culture is totally different than that of europe the greeks historically were an ancient empire the ruled much of europe at some time. You should look for an african solution in africa it might helpt eritrea and ethiopia two.

President daahir rayaale said many times that he would wage a war if his country sovereignty is undermined not even the great cigaal said of the current presidnet of somaliland the people of awdal showed what they believe on 18 may this year from caruur to ciiroole.

Carafaat this is more than just simple politics when people try to undermine the fundamental principles of a state that belongs to a particular group it creates more than just simple political differences and you know that

Somalia;761091 wrote: We aren't Arabs that will be divided up. Even if the region was to become a nation (which is ever so more bleak looking), it itself would be carved up along clan lines. The likelihood of SSC and Awdal being part of what is essentially a region controlled by one clan is slim. Some people see the larger picture, I am afraid the people of "Somaliland" do not. Lool Like Somalia right where you have 17 Clan states and 17 presidents that's what you wish for you're own Country but Please do not wish that for your Neighbors its not Cool. Doqonkasta iyado kaley ku mooda,Somaliland and the people of Somaliland are more united than ever. What you should Promote is the Unity of the people of Somalia the same way the people of Somaliland love the unity of their Country.

Xaaji Xunjuf replied to Jacaylbaro's topic in General
Who is talking about the ethnicity even when research was done somalis don't even share the same haplagroup or genetic marker so let's not talk about ethnicity what we do know is the singers jb posted are and hail from somaliland that's their country their land of origin and many of them their place of birth somaliland is their identity. That's an indisputable fact so why is it wrong if somaliland singers are called somaliland singers lol -

Carafaat are you saying these singers are not Somalilanders isn't Somaliland their country Yeah sure Somali is language but an Englishmen or an Irishmen from Ireland is not the same compared to an American with Irish origin even though they speak the same language and are Christians.People are from different nationalities and that's just something you need to accept of course the People of Somalia are the brothers and sisters of Somalilanders when we talk about religion and Language but they have different nationalities they differentiate from each other Even the Folklore dances of Somalia and Somaliland are totally different. -
