  1. asalaamu alaykum, Martial arts was always something I wanted to learn but unfortunetly there's a very serious shortage of female instructors so poor me has no one to teach her I think every Muslim, young or old, male or female should have at the very least, basic military training. salaam!
  2. asalaamu alaykum, Biggest turn off? I would say brothers who don't take the time to clip their finger nails! I know it sounds rather trivial but I just can't stand long nails, especially on men. salaam
  3. asalaamu alaykum >>>Can I have your mahram's phone number?">>>> I like this one, nice and straight to the point. I think any brother who is courageous enough to say this to a sister is certainly worthy of consideration. Plus, it shows he isn't after the usual "let's go out and get to know eachother and if someone better doesn't come along until then we can talk about our long term engagement" crap. Just my 2cents! salaam
  4. asalaamu alaykum, I don't know about the other speakers but Sheikh Mokhtar Maghroui is off the hook! I heard him speak about the purification of the soul once and it literaly changed my life. I would love to hear what you guys think of him, if you've had the chance to hear him speak. For those of you interested he runs "purificatation of the soul" retreat twice a year, one during winter break in Ottawa Canada and the other in August at Albany NY. salam!
  5. asalaamu alaykum bros and sistahs, Sister Raxama, I know what you mean when you say you fell in love with this forum as I did the same thing I'm also pretty new here... today is my first day. It's nice meeting you all! oh yeah i'm 21 biochem major... almost done alhamdulilah! salaam
  6. asalaamu alaykum, Brother Mujahid well said. It took me sometime to adopt this way of thinking but Alhamdulilah I came around as I got older. Survivor... I need to gain me some weight also! If you figure out a way help a sister out inshaAllah salaam
  7. asalaamu alaykum, Bro Khyr, One way to help your brother keep his Islam in university is to encourage him to join the MSA and just surround himself with good Muslims. Also, tell him to inquire about Muslim housing or atleast find a Muslim roomate. If you have people there encouraging you shaytaan is less likely to attack. For the brother who said he finds himslef questioning Islam as he studies, I think this can be a healthy response. You should realize that Islam does not require blind faith. Whatever element of Islam you find yourself questioning, you'll find the answer if you take the time to research. What is dangerous is to ignore and let these thoughts linger in your mind. Shyatan will use this against you in anyway he can. We should not be affraid to seek and gain knowledge, although we should constantly make duca to Allah that our knowledge benefits us in strengthening our deen and not be used as another tool for shaytan to mislead us. As a science major, in my first year I was required to take an evolution course, taught by a very atheist prof. I remember the prof would point out "mistakes" that he saw with the human body and would say things like "If this so called 'creator' is so perfect why does he keep messing up?" Right after that he would go on talk about molecular structure of a cell and the intericate details and how millions of processes occure within milliseconds, and how it was virtually impossible for human beings to comprehend fully what goes on in each cell. I would think to myself, subhanaAllah and he sees this and yet mocks Allah? That semster was when I fully understood what Allah meant when He said the disbelievers are deaf, dumb and blind... subhanAllah! On a side note, if anyone is interested in reading more about the evolution theory from an Islamic prespective visit www.harunyahya.com salaam!
  8. asalaamu alaykum, As we all know Islam came to liberate women and fight the very same social injustices that are rampant in our so called "Muslim" societies. This comes as no surprise, considering how we have repeatedly rejected the authority of Allah. Alhamdulilah today we have excess to vast amount of Islamic material to allow us to distinguish what is Islam and what isn't. For example, we know women not being allowed to drive can not by any means be justified Islamicaly. Anyway let's not get into that whole issue of saudi being Islamic country... that's a whole another topic. Let's just be greatful that Allah has blessed us with the opportunities to learn and understand HIS beautiful deen. salaam!
  9. asalaamu alaykum, InshaAllah I don't plan to raise kids but soldiers . InshaAllah I'll be blessed with 8 wonderful lil shaheeds whose ultimate goal in life is to please Allah. salaam!
  10. asalaamu alaykum, Wow this topic has to be most useful topic I've come across in the women's section! Well today is my first day on SOL so i dont' know how accurate that statment is Unfortunetly I'm not done reading all the posts so I hope I'm not repeating what anyone said. Ok here's my beauty secrets, if you can call it that: Face: I wash with st ives apercot scrub (only once a day though u don't want to be scrubbing your skin away), and because i have a tendency to break out durring the summer I use Clean and Clear acne controle. After that I use, and I know many of you love this, COCOA BUTTER! I'm telling you this does wonders for your skin. It does leave your skin very oily but you can get around this by leaving it on for a few minutes and then using baby poweder, on your face to dry it out. The good thing about this is that later on when you're in school/work and you have to make wudu the powder will wash off but your skin won't be dry nor will it be shiny. If you run out of baby poweder you can just rinse the cream off after you've let it absorb into your face. What else? Hmm... oh! there's vaseline, the answer to everything. If the palms of your hand get dry frequently as mine, try this... b4 you go to bed at night, put on massive amount of vaseline on your hands and slip on plastic gloves (or freezer bag will do). You can do the same with your feet. NOTE: do not do this during the summer as it can be extermely uncomfortable unless you're lucky enough to have centeral air conditioning in your home. Also, if you apply vaseline on your lips before you go to sleep, you'll wake up with super soft lips! Ok, I have a little problem and I'm hoping one of you sisters can help me out. You see a few months ago I got my nose pierced, and just as it healed I noticed a little bump/pimple right on the edge. I was told to dry it out with Hydrogen peroxide but that didnt' work out as it dries out the pimple but it ends up coming back. I'm at my wit's end with this thing and I can't seem to get rid of it. I'll appreciate any help y'all can offer! salaam!
