If you think this about Colonel Caare only you are surely mistaken Marwo Oodka. Hundreds of Somaliland army quit the Sland army and joined him. Just few days ago several defected from Tukaraq and joined him.

Local "leaders" do exist in Hargeisa but they are clearly useless thieves who steal most of the tax money collected in the city.

Somaliland is not any different than the many federal states (Puntland, Jubbaland etc). End of the day they will have to learn to behave and accept the reality that Somalia is not going anywhere. Somaliland has failed to gain recognition close to 30 years so the other federal states know there is no out option and learned from Somaliland's failure in that front.

No it is the reality. The west is not bothered about Somalia having a weak government as-long as it works. As for Somaliland region it doesn't even register in their radar in regards to "recognition". Somaliland had their chance in early 2000s when Mogadishu was in turmoil and there was no permanent government but that window is closed now. As the English idiom goes It's no use crying over spilled milk.

Somaliland airspace is controlled from Mogadishu. Somalia government obviously is not at full capacity yet but it is getting there step by step. It is much closer than the "ictiraaf koolaid" the residents of northern Somalia were getting fed for close to 30 years.

That sort of talk is so 2009 (when Somalia was even more of a worse situation) right now though any talk about recognition of Sland or Somalia government collapsing is out of the window. Times changed. You see the world is okay with a weak government like Lebanon but they are not okay with recognizing Somaliland (since it can open a Pandora box of every federal state in Somalia demanding independence).

The world only recognizes 1 Somalia and the Somalia government is indeed permanent it is not going anywhere. Somalia is recovering from a decades long turmoil just like many African countries did but that is all. It never ceased being a country.

Somalia cities populations are overestimated I agree with galbeedi. For example Britain's second biggest city (Birmingham) is 1 million in population and Hargeisa is no where near the size of Birmingham. At best Hargeisa city is 500,000.

Somaliland region can't afford to misbehave with Djibouti one of those reasons is since it hosts a large number of businessmen hailing from Gabiley/West Hargeisa originally which can be kicked out in the blink of eye and their properties confiscated if they anger Djibouti (even Khadra Haid won't be able to safe them). So it is not as simple as you think.
