  2. so pissed! came to uni but all classes have been cancelled! didnt read the email sent yesterday! I am so mad! literally pissed off!
  3. ^hence why i said 'Based on other primitive and barbaric factors, Nur cade shouldn’t be the prime minister!' This so called 4.5 will eventually do more harm than good! We should know better than to give someone the job based on their clan rather than on their merit! And anyways how do you account for those who seceded or those who do not wish to be part of the central govt! Or the smaller minorities who are not represented in the quota (0.5) doesnt really represent all the minorities in Somalia, i'd imagine its a bit more than that. Right now, we are only working on 1.5-2.5 capacity and this will inevitably cause the system to collapse. 4.5 should be 4.5 not anything less! What about women? Are they represented in this ridiculous system? Asha Haji Elmi’s sixth clan movement, I presume are not included in the 4.5 system. This is positive discrimination taken a bit too far but I acknowledge our people are still savages intent on negative tribalism and are more interested in the subject matter rather than the content!
  4. The prime minister should be selected on merit! Nur cade is an ideal candidate for me. He is patient, political astute and made all this possible. Based on merit, Nur cade should be the prime minister! Based on other primitive and barbaric factors, Nur cade shouldn’t be the prime minister! merit or diversity?? is the question we should be deliberating!

No not really!!! the 'new' somali man is in effect, the same as the orginial farax's! the only difference is the 'new' somali man are quasi-farax who have adopted the culture and characteristics of their adopted countries! but who still retain their farax antics!!
  6. Originally posted by Thierry.: its not to late to come on board the success wagon 'success wagon' kulaha, this reminds of that famous Somali saying: Maanigaa waalan mise Cadan baa lagaa heesaya. There is no guarantee that he will succeed! The sheikh faces a mammoth of a challenge. My support for sheikh Ahmed administrations is only provisional and dependent upon a number of pre-requisite that I mentioned in my earilier comment! ‘If the Sheikh Ahmed administration becomes synonymous with negative tribalism, dualism, corruption or the pillaging of natural resource, not to mention executing injustices at the indiscretion of minority peoples, rather than 'those' with political and monetary clout!’
  7. ^^Sometimes I get disillusioned by the cynical behaviour and the constant Pickering of our people! But I was brought up to love my country and people and I believe its my destiny to transform Somalia into a peaceful and modern nation-state!
  8. ^^ I want to serve my country! This is my chance to redeem myself for years of neglect! I can imagine me and the Sheikh Ahmed having morning coffee over the newspapers, then embarking on a media onslaught against those who wish to bring us down!
  9. My interests are peace, modernity and prosperity Thierry! Which is what all Somali people want so desperately need, so maha?? If the Sheikh Ahmed administration becomes synonymous with negative tribalism, dualism, corruption or the pillaging of natural resource, not to mention executing injustices at the indiscretion of minority peoples, rather than 'those' with political and monetary clout ! I will become a whistle blower and sell the story to the Somaliland times and other respectable newspapers in the region! We need meritocracy in the civil service in the new administration! We need something similar to affirmative action so all peoples are represented and included in this wonderful opportunity. I really hope the sheikh Ahmed can bring a peaceful, representative and sustainable government that we have yarned for so long!
  10. I wanna be the goverment media relations spokesperson (spin doctor)! we need to sell the Sheikh Ahmed policies to the rest of somalia! and the region!
  11. With all due respect to the Shabab, are they able to run a country? A professor friend of mine was telling me when the UIC took over in 2006 they were screaming for civil servants to implement their policies! civil servants are the only people who can actually run a country! I wouldnt mind working for the Al-shabab in their foreign afffairs dept, aleast i wont utter crap like 'we will spread islam to Iceland and Japan!''. It wont be long before they split into islamo-tribal entities! I hope this doesnt happen though!
  12. One may classify the different Islamic discourse prevalent at the present as following: 1. A populist salvationist "messianic" discourse: This is the discourse of the overwhelming majority of the Muslim masses that have realized through historical experience that the processes of modernization, secularization and globalization have done them no good and brought no real reform. They want to see the Islamic nation(s) (ummah) restore its religious and cultural heritage, and oppose Western neo-colonial hegemony .While these masses cry for change, and hope for salvation, they are incapable of contributing any new ideas or organizing any social nor political movements. Usually it finds a suitable platform in philanthropy, either at the individual level (charity and relief ), or at the community level (building mosques, hospitals and schools or providing hot meals to the poor). Such a discourse frequently expresses itself in the form of spontaneous and, at times, violent acts of protest ,but it is at essence pacifist. The populist discourse is mainly the discourse of the poor and the marginalized, but it is also sometimes the discourse of some elites in the society who re-discover their religious and cultural heritage, and who recognize that its loss would mean a loss of their identity that they attempt to re-build. 2. The intellectual discourse: This is the discourse that deals primarily with the more theoretical and intellectual issues, and is dominant within the academics and intellectuals and has little influence on the masses yet remains influential in times of crisis when people turn to these intellectuals for guidance and when they voice the concerns of the masses in the intellectual arena. The populist and political discourses very often merge into one another, and the same can be said about the political and intellectual discourses, notwithstanding the common ground and frame of reference shared by the three discourse. This simple classification does not mean that the three discourses exist in total isolation, the one from the other. In fact, the populist and political discourses very often merge into one another, and the same can be said about the political and intellectual discourses, notwithstanding the common ground and frame of reference shared by the three discourse. Yet we deem it useful, from an analytical point of view, to assume their relative independence from one another. In addition to this synchronic system of classification, a chronological diachronic one might prove more relevant--from the standpoint of this paper. We might also distinguish between: 1. The traditionalist Islamic discourse: It emerged as a direct and immediate reaction to the colonial invasion of the Muslim world, and prevailed till the mid-sixties. 2. The new Islamic discourse: After an initial period of indefiniteness and marginalization, this discourse began to assume a more definite form in the mid-sixties, and started to move gradually toward the center. Both discourses endeavored to provide an Islamic answer to the challenges posed by colonization, modernization and the post-independence era. Nevertheless, there are radical points of divergence between the two that stem from two interrelated factors: 1. Their respective attitudes vis-à-vis Western modernity. 2. The level of comprehensiveness that each discourse and outlook has developed. Islamic Discourses... Diverse Visions
  13. We need a working definition for this type of Hijab, clearly 'Penguin hijab' is not an appropriate name and causing too much problems! 'Umbrella hijab' is just as offensive
  14. Lots of good points! Being the quasi-farax that i am! I prefer a nice little xalimo to look after me and give me TLC and a bit more. having read almost 10 books on trying to understand the female psyche! i have come to the conclusion that maybe i am not just good enough for Somali women! , for Somali woman are beyond any type of categorisations and no book will ever encapsulate them into a 'nutshell' made and ready for delivery after a few sweet lines! IBZ if you know any sisters please let me know! I don't ask for much except all of the aforementioned in the list LOL!!
  15. Somaliland Public Affairs Committee (SPAC) is an advocacy organisation working for the recognition of Somaliland. Its aims are to primarily develop links between the Somaliland Government and its people in the Diaspora. In addition to this, SPAC aims to engage with and lobby the British Government to formally recognise the existence of Somaliland. SPAC was created with the conscious aim of setting up an all inclusive, interest based, alternative policy and political lobby group for Somaliland. Although a number of factors can be attributed to the non-recognition of Somaliland, one factor that has hindered Somaliland being recognised is the non-existence of a well organised and co-ordinated lobby group. SPAC hopes to fill this void and attempts to increase communication between the Somaliland government and those somalilanders in the Diaspora. Objectives of SPAC: 1. Recognition of Somaliland as a national sovereign state; 2. To promote democracy in Somaliland; 3. To promote and support the building of democratic institutions in the executive, legislative and judiciary; 4. To promote elections and parliamentary participation in Somaliland 5. To promote participation of members of the Diaspora to get involved in politics at the national level and local level in the United Kingdom. 6. To establish and maintain links with Somalilanders in the Diaspora; 7. Encourage the Somali Diaspora to considerwhat they can contribute to the development of Somaliland 8. Provide a means of engaging with and lobbing the British Government to recognise Somaliland as a sovereign state; 9. To establish links with the All Party Parliamentary Groups on Somaliland; 10.To work with local MPs to advocate on our behalf regarding Somaliland 11. 16. I am not aware of Dhulqarneyn behaviour or what he has done to get banned, but I believe he deserves to come back to SOL. Being banned from SOL is one of the worst thing that can happen to a on-line human being. Whatever he has done, I am sure it doesn't constitute being banned indefinitely from SOL!!
  17. Unfortunately for many of the people on this forum, they were married in the last century in a socially conservative society, almost like Victorian Britain. Fortunately for those of us who have not tired the knot, the world is different and changed! So what does the 'new' Somali man require in a marriage? 'new' in this sense is defined as young, liberal and off middle class stock! Regrettably many do not fall into this defined and narrow group. I am therefore placed in a very good position to answer such a question! The Marriage Requirement of the 'New' Somali Man includes the following attributes: 1. Politically Liberal 2. Good income 3. Attractive 4. Highly Educated 5. Islamically liberated
  18. ''Man Hijaab'' Kulaha!!! Surely this is innovation and against Islam! I know if the pendulum of power were to swing, Alot of these feminist and empanicipated somali women would delibrately reconfigure the very ideals we hold sacred! Rahima, I agree! but surely if the lord wants her to be modest, shouldnt she obey thy lord??
  19. Any X-MEN fans here??? I am addicted to X-MEN. I thought i would grow out of it but i am still buying comics and watching old tv series. been a fan since 1992, since its been a addiction. I even went to a X-MEN convention once!!
  20. Originally posted by chocolate & honey: I hate men who belittle women and reduce them to whats on their bodies I am now a misogynist and chauvinist saqaajan??? 21. Norf, You have a tendency of saying the most inapt things at the most inconvenient times! Surely someone of your assumed intelligence would have more sense than to engage in silly little tirades! Mockery is a sign of weakness inflicted on others to feel good about yourself! Cease from this type of bile.
  22. The level of righteous arrogance coming from certain individuals is quite hard to swallow. You might assume you have more knowledge of Islam than me but it doesn’t mean you are more of a Muslim than me. Only Allah can knows what’s in our hearts. Don’t issue fatwa’s on me or pretend you have a monopoly on Islamic knowledge. My intention was to do well but I have been made to feel like I am some kind of an apostle!!
  23. I actually think caamir deserves some appreciation for his critical analysis on social issues!
  24. perhaps you should wear a stripy pink penguin hibaj?? just an idea!!
