  1. ^^ LOL! Any other insights from the colonies?? How does a places like Dixon/Minneapolis deal with this epidemic?? When I watch north african somali movies they portray the communuity as recently arrived migrants, having problems integrating and have a clash of cultures! is this relfective of their lived experiences?

And I'm like "So you rather have some Gaalo kids hunging arround your kids than Somali? And what is this "Shockingly infectious bad behavior they'll catch from the Somalis that they wont learn from Gaalo? Seriously  . They disgust me. I thought this was just limited to Somalis in UK. I agree with chocolate & honey 110%, its disgusting behaviour! How does interacting with your people affecting your level of progression! in fact i'd imagine supporting each other would have added to the overall success of the community. Jews are perfect at doing this, they help each other until they are all relatively more or less have the same provisions!
  3. IBZ your married? this has come as a bit of shock to me, I was preparing myself!! thats cool, I guess i'll have to find a uunsi loving Xalimo!
  4. IBZ, when your married are you gonna have uunsi in your house?? or do you prefer the modern touch like glade or air wick??
  5. The smell of uunsi is usually found in recently married couples, its wonderful! its usually a sign that the relationship is beautiful.
  6. in Borama, they dig a deep hole in the ground! use it to relief themselves and when its nearing its full capacity, they use a stone to block it! our people are already struggling with water pumps- due to others denying this right to us. its a long time before we get plumbing and a sewage system!!
  7. going on daqan Ceelis to Somaliland in april at the tender age of 49 should cure your self-hating tendencies NG, though its long overdue! Nonetheless sxb, i am interested to know why you deny this epidemic in our community and call it 'stuff and nonesense'? Perhaps you could tell me what the difference between my honourable mentor xiin and my opinions are?
  8. I do feel superior to other races I have to admit!
  9. These are two extremes IBZ! you are not being objective but making judgements according general stereotypes. We need to find a middling ground! I prefer to be me. Be a proud Somali man who is also happy and has a decent life! Btw - Why hasnt mohamed not had children yet?? two years is too long! Abdi has a greater sense of belonging and is more comfortable in his own skin!

NO sxb! Cultural awarness starts from the family. Its not the responsibility of event/ cultural awarness sessions to educate our young people about somaliness. as baby and since, i have been giving a cultural grounding by my family who also encouraged me to do as best as i can in school too. I was developing some of the symptoms of inferiority complex before I was saved by a trip to Somaliland. Originally posted by *Ibtisam*: Kids who mix with others, get on very well with other, perform better in life, and worse comes to worse, they reach about 25years old and then do a two months crash course in Somali-ness. By this time its too late. I know many 30-something year olds who cant speak Somali. How embarrassing! This is disgraceful, kulaha two months crash course in somali-ness!!! Self-hating Somalis need an intensive programme of cultural orientation!
  11. Originally posted by Norf 2: Somaliness can come later on (being aware of where you’re from and the ability to speak some Somali is enough). First thing is first, GRADES! This exactly why there are so many self-hating Somalis in our community. There is too much pressure to perform and achieving the highest grades possible. Many of these kids, especially those in the education system feel its fine to assume they live in a multicultural society, however once they leave this protective environment and face the big bad world, they realise they know nothing about their sense of self and develop inferiority complex subsequently becoming self-haters, using their academic performance to go to university and securing a decent job - completely disassociating themselves from their community! It appears the less time and emphasis on cultural education counteracts many young people sense of an identity and sense of belonging! cultural grounding should be the first things instilled in our kids!
  12. Originally posted by NGONGE: I pity the kid that will get mentored by Marx! I am actually a involved in a buddy system where i mentor young somali kids. It very interesting. I try my utmost to not educate them so much on practical things but rather fill their heads of what they can be if they put their minds to it. I was a also a teacher in east london teaching years 3-10 english. I was their favourite teacher, because according to them i was hip and kinda like them! Nothing worse than some middle aged somali teacher instilling his recycled values on you.
  13. It takes one person to change the world. All of us should be mentoring our young people. Many of us have developed a tendency of neglecting the needs of our people because we have the privilge of a decent education and opportunity to earn a decent income. The worst culprits are the self-aggrandising fools who hate their sense of self. I have encountered many in my life and pity them with for being trapped in a delirious trance of nothingness! Those who ignore this issue like my two good friends Norf and NG are to a large extent self-haters based on past admissions! Xiin, I am happy to mentored by you Adeer! lakiin dont recycle old information and present it as brand new!
  14. Identity is a contested term but what does it mean to be Somali these days in the Western World? This is an issue I have grappled with and I think most young Somalis in the West face similar identity issues on a daily occurrence that affect our daily thoughts and actions! Many of us live in multicultural societies represented by a diverse and mosaic set of identities but it’s difficult to create 'our' own distinct identity amongst already established cultures. Many of you will agree this failure to create a single Somali identity has induced a lot of problems for our young people who are surrounded by more influential cultures around whether it be it ‘hip-hop’ ‘Islamic’ ‘African’ ‘Arab’ or even ‘western’ identities, even though Somali culture is influenced by these cultures! This has led to many self-hating people in our community. In fact, there are more self-hating Somalis than in most other communities. These people are quick to deny their sense of self and often have an inferiority complex. This has had a disastrous consequence for the already strained Somali identity. Gone are the days when a big forehead and being skinny or wearing a penguin style hijab and having a limited grasp of English were key features that identified a Somalis from amongst the crowd. Many of those who self-hating are discovering new ways to turn their backs on being Somali! And are instead banking on new lifestyles that are detrimental to our very existence. This brain flight has been caused by our own apathy and indifference. Please dispel the misconceptions on Somali culture and do you best to rescue any self-hating Somali in our midst from losing their rightful and deserved place in the world. What can you do to help? Mentor young people Celebrate Somali cultural heritage Promote and foster an appreciation of Somali History Explain the complex issues affecting Somalis Thanks! your efforts are appreciated!
  15. 2.17/5 based on 10 votes is not reflective of my contribution to SOL. Its actually pathetic!! this needs to be increased!! AT&T is just being greedy!!
  16. was looking at people in my area, saw a few people i recognised up to no good! this is not right, its an infringement on privacy!!!
  17. I am doing very good thanks! just enjoying the wonderful British weather! Everything is good! I agree 100%, the senior nomad should be removed at once, its no reflection of any sound contribution to SOL!!
  18. I guess we are on the same boat geel! sida kaale warka isii sxb! me and you should be friends!
  19. hold on a sec there pssst! i thought you needed 100 post to become a nomad!!! this is getting out of hand! Do I need a 10000 post to become a supreme nomad!
  20. Its about quality than quantity. Some of these senior nomads spew the most tirades of self-opinionated bile. I could spew a 1001 LOOOOOOOLs then could so easily become a senior nomad! If anything the length of time spent on SOL should be awarded with the title of 'senior nomads'!!
  21. Its an issue of politics not qabil!! We need to make clarifications when mixing the two interchangable.....
  22. I wonder how many of us are been indoctrinated to hate our host countries!!! Be wary of those who are intent on hate and destruction! Their aims are based on hatred and extremism. Its important that I distance myself from Islamophobia or instigation of any religious hatred, and I fully respect Islam and all my Muslim brothers and sisters, but its an even bigger mistake to assume that these extremist represents all Muslims in the UK!
  23. More superior or widely spoken Mrs.DD??
  24. Its still the most superior and widely spoken language in the World!!!
